“Your…your mom? And how do you know this exactly?” Sutton asked.

Harlee flashed her a bright smile. “I got her addicted after taking her to a sex toy party a few years ago. I thought at first it was from all the wine she drank, but it quickly became clear that my mother likes a good BOB and enjoys some play in the bedroom with my dad. Though if I think about it too much, I gag.”

I stared at Harlee, then started laughing my ass off. Sutton soon joined in. And we didn’t care that half the restaurant was staring at us like we’d lost our minds.

“Maybe you could have a secret room in the store for the customers who’d prefer to purchase those types of things in private,” I said, wiping the tears from my face and taking a much-needed breath. I hadn’t laughed that hard in a long time.

Sutton paused for a moment before looking between me and Harlee. “You know, that’s not a bad idea. Having a little private area for people to shop for sexier things is a great idea, actually. I’ve noticed my older clients want to dress sexy, as well, but if there’s someone else in the store, they tend to shy away from those types of outfits.”

Harlee bounced in her seat. “Oh, please let me help you with this! Please? I could be like their personal shopper.”

Turning in her seat to look at Harlee, Sutton smiled. “Wait, are you serious? I need help at the store and was going to put an ad in the paper to hire someone part time. I’d love to have you work with me.”

“Wait,” I said, holding up my hands. “How do you know I don’t want to work at the store?”

Sutton looked at me with a serious expression. “Do you want to work there? I didn’t think you were interested in retail, Addie. I’m sorry.”

I shrugged. “I mean, I don’t want to work there, but it would have been nice to be asked.”

Sutton threw her napkin at me. “Ugh, I really wish I could reach across this table and slap you, Adelaide Bradley.”

Harlee and I both giggled.

“Okay, so back to the job,” Harlee stated. “I’m totally interested, Sutton.”

“What about the paper?” I asked. “Would your dad care if you got another position somewhere?”

Harlee waved her hand, dismissing my concern. “I could easily handle both. I have the marketing at the paper down pat. I’d love to take on something new! I can totally help you market the new changes in the store, Sutton. After all, it’s what my degree is in.”

Sutton beamed with excitement. “Oh my gosh, am I really thinking of carrying—” she switched to a whisper—“dildos in my shop?”

Our mother picked that moment to walk up to the table. She stopped, looked at Sutton, then me, then Harlee. She opened her mouth to say something, closed it, and turned on her heels and walked away.

“Maybe Mom could be one of your first clients,” I said, covering my mouth to keep from laughing again.

Sutton gagged.

Harlee pointed at me. “Just think, Addie, this might be exactly what you need to get the gossip columnist away from you.”

Sutton waved her hands frantically. “Oh no, no, no, no! I do not want to be written about again in that column.”

Harlee reached for Sutton’s hand and gave it a squeeze. “You know what they say: there’s no such thing as bad press.”

Sutton snarled her lip and closed her eyes, slowly shaking her head. “I’m going to regret this, I know it.”

“Regret what?”

I looked up to see Brody standing there. He held a to-go bag and a cup of coffee in his hands.

Sutton snapped into an upright position. Before Harlee or I could even say a word, she said, “Nothing! We were talking about the store and some…changes I’m going to be making.”

Brody lifted his brows in curiosity. “Really?”

Harlee grinned slyly, then cleared her throat. “Brody, what are your thoughts on a woman owning a personal pleasure toy?”

“Oh my God,” Sutton whispered as she started to slide down in her seat, damn near crawling under the table.

“A personal pleasure toy? Like a vibrator?” he asked.

“Yes, Brody, a vibrator.” Harlee grinned. “Also known as a dildo, a pulsator, a selfie stick, a rampant rabbit, an electrical banana, a chick stick, a fuck tool, a buzz buddy, an orgasmatron…”

“Jesus H. How many different words are there for a vibrator, and why do you know them all?” I asked Harlee.

Brody stood there with a stunned expression on his face while Sutton covered her own with her hands.

“Orgasmatron?” Brody asked.

“That was the word you picked up on?” I asked him.

“What?” He shrugged. “It has the word ‘orgasm’ in it. I’m obviously going to pick up on that.”

“Oh God,” Sutton mumbled. “Can we please change the subject? Please.”
