“These titties,” he groans. “I’ve been dreaming about ’em.”

He dips his head, nudging my cropped sweater up, and sucks my breast through the lacy bra, the wet, hot suction on my nipple melting me where I stand.

“Fuck me, Monk.” I’m not even ashamed of how my voice shakes or how wet I am. “Right here. I don’t care. I want you so bad.”

He feathers kisses across my collarbone and up my neck until his mouth is at my ear. “No.”

I go still, his denial cooling my body as surely as the night air. He gently sets me away from him, putting a few inches between our bodies. He pulls my sweater down, straightens my skirt, and swipes a thumb around my mouth, his fingers coming away smeared with the shade of my lipstick.

“I want to, Verity,” he says, his eyes sober. “I’d probably fuck you right here in the open, so anyone could walk by and see me balls deep, if I’m being honest.”

“Then why…” I close my eyes as reality comes flooding back. “Oh, right. I forgot. You have your session. I’m sorry. I—”

“It’s not that.” He sighs. “I mean, yeah. I’m already gonna be late and the producer’s gonna kick my ass and possibly dock my pay, but that’s not it. I’d blow it off to have you right now.”

“Then I don’t understand.”

“Well, for one thing, I’d actually like our first time to be…” He gestures around the arboretum. “Not on a bench.”

I snicker and nod.

“But also,” he says, hesitation in the look he gives me, “because of how we met and that level of intimacy so fast, it feels like we’ve skipped a lot of steps.”

I snort a laugh. “Um… yeah. We skipped a lot.”

“I like you,” he says, brushing a finger over my cheekbone. “A lot. I know slowing down feels like going backward, but I’d like to get to know you and see what’s up.”

“I’d like that, too.” I hesitate, wanting to ask the question burning the tip of my tongue, but not wanting to come off desperate. “So… no sex until we get to know each other, right?”

“I didn’t say that.” He chuckles, reaching around to grab my ass and pull me close again. “I know enough to know I want you. I haven’t been able to get you out of my mind since that night. All the things we didn’t get to do.”

“Same,” I breathe, the possibility of having him fill the places he left aching and empty the last time making my heart race.

“I want to take you right here.” He blows out a laugh, running a hand over his face that lands on his neck. “But I think we need a pause.”

“Alright. I understand.”

“I think this could be special.” He lifts my chin and holds my eyes. “I felt that the night we met, and we owe ourselves at least a conversation to protect what this could be.”

It’s the perfect thing to say, and I let the sincerity of it—when most guys play games or would take advantage—sink in.

“I think you’re right,” I say.

“Let’s talk about it tomorrow.” He flashes a wicked grin. “And get you home before I change my mind.”

Monk

I spent half of last night’s session kicking myself for not going home with Verity, and the other half fantasizing that I had. Needless to say, the producer didn’t get my best or my full attention. Fortunately, I’m good enough that he didn’t realize that.

Now that I’m here at Verity’s door and we’ve had a day to think, nothing’s changed for me. I want to see where this could go. Our connection feels too rare for me to ignore. If I don’t give it the space it deserves, I might regret it forever.

I’ve barely knocked once when her door swings open.

“Hey,” she says, wearing a wide smile and a flowy skirt that shows off her beautiful brown legs.

“Hey, yourself.” I reach for her, stepping into the room and kicking the door closed. “Been thinking about this all day.”

“This?” She tips her head back far enough to catch my eyes, a smile lighting her face. “You mean snatching me up as soon as you see me?”

“Kissing you.”

I lower my head and she tips on her toes, meeting me halfway. She tastes even better than I remember. She’s all soft, scented curves, and her mouth is eager and open.

“We said we’d talk,” I mumble into the kiss.

“Hmmm,” she agrees, dotting kisses along my jawline. “We should, but just a little of this first, ’kay?”

Laughing, I walk us toward her bed pushed against the wall. Not having lived in a dorm since freshman year, I forgot how little space there is.

“Roommate?” I leave a trail of kisses down her neck.

“She never showed,” she says, taking my chin to pull my mouth close enough to kiss. “So I have my own room.”
