Wraith and Caroline manned the door, just like they had when Winnie first made it into Inferno. At her first sight of Winnie, Caroline jumped from the stool, clapping her hands in excitement. “You’re beautiful, Winnie. I love your dress!”

“Da… I mean Scythe bought it for me to celebrate! Look how it swirls,” Winnie exclaimed and turned in a tight circle, flaring the material out to reveal the shorts Scythe had made her put on when he discovered how high it rose.

“I want a dress like that!” Caroline said, sending a sideway glance at Wraith.

“We could be twinsies!” Winnie said, bouncing up and down in place with her friend. “Da… Darn it. Scythe, could you tell Wraith where you found it?”

“I can do that, Chipmunk. Now, we’re clogging the doorway. Let’s move out of Wraith and Caroline’s way and go get a drink.”

“A strawberry margarita?” she suggested.

“If that’s what you want,” Scythe agreed and wrapped an arm around her waist to steer her away.

Behind them, Caroline shared how good a strawberry margarita sounded. She smiled over her shoulder and mouthed, “I’ll bring you one.”

Caroline nodded eagerly and answered, “Thank you!”

When Winnie turned back around, she lost her balance and wobbled to the side. She hit a solid mass with a thump. “Whoa! Oh, Razor. I’m sorry.”

Scythe had steadied her immediately. “Sorry, Winnie. I didn’t think you’d head in that direction.”

“I was hoping to run into you,” the Devil Daddies’ doctor told her. “How are you feeling? Is that medicine working?”

Winnie’s face heated four hundred degrees. She had to be blushing furiously. Nodding, she pressed her hands to her cheeks.

Razor leaned close and whispered, “No one else knows what kind of medicine I prescribed.”

“Oh! Thank goodness.” Winnie recovered quickly.

“Are you going to the bar?” Razor asked.

“A strawberry margarita is calling her name,” Scythe answered.

“Two, please,” Winnie said quickly.

“Two?” Scythe answered.

“I promised I’d take Caroline one.”

“You’re a good friend,” Razor observed. “Have fun. You look beautiful in that dress, by the way.”

“Thank you, Razor.” Over his shoulder, Winnie saw a woman stumble and fall to the floor. “Oh, no! She just fell.”

Razor turned and headed that direction immediately with Winnie and Scythe on his heels. The doctor knelt by the woman’s side.

“Hey, are you okay? I’m a doctor.”

“Oh, I’m fine. I’ve always been a klutz. If you’d help me up, I’d appreciate it,” the woman said with smiling lips that trembled slightly.

Something in the back of her mind alerted Winnie the woman hadn’t simply tripped accidentally. She seemed shaky. Winnie squeezed her Daddy’s hand, making sure he saw it too.

“Of course,” Razor told her and lifted her easily to her feet. His hands remained around her waist while she regained her balance. It seemed to take a bit longer than expected. Razor’s eyebrows drew together in concern. “How about if you sit and rest for a bit?”

“I was going to that table. The stools are too… high for me to be comfortable,” the woman said and noticed another group had settled into that table. “Oh, I missed that one.”

Razor glanced at the young men gathered at the closest booth. “Go sit somewhere else.”

They spotted his and Scythe’s cuts and scurried away with their beers.

“Let’s sit here.” Razor guided her to the booth and helped her slide onto the bench seat.

When she was settled, Razor sat on the other side. He met Scythe’s gaze. “I’ll stay with….”

“Honey,” the woman supplied with a tired smile. “Sorry. I should have stayed at home tonight and waited until I had more energy.”

“Nonsense. Make the most of every day,” Razor told her.

Her lips spread into a grin like she was delighted he understood. “That’s exactly why I came.”

Razor turned to Winnie and Scythe. “Go get those strawberry margaritas. I’ll stay here and keep Honey company while she catches her breath.”

Scythe immediately nodded and guided Winnie toward the bar. “Let’s leave them alone, Chipmunk,” he whispered in her ear. “Razor’s got this.”

Winnie allowed him to steer her toward the bar. What was going on? She got the impression it was important.

The deep pink margarita in her hand distracted her from checking on the couple. “This is yummy!”

The bartender gave her a happy thumbs-up as she handed Scythe another fruity concoction and two bottles of beer. “Enjoy!”

When she remembered to look back at the booth after enjoying the drink with Caroline, a different group sat there. With the slight buzz of tequila in her tummy, Winnie swayed to the music. She glanced at Scythe. Did he dance?

“Do you know how to two-step?” he asked, plucking the empty glass from her hand and setting it on a server’s tray.

“Teach me.”

“Anything and everything, Little girl. Let’s go,” Scythe said.

A few minutes later, he swept her around the floor. Her dress turned out to be the perfect two-step garment. His hand on her waist steadied her when she missed a step, or a hundred. The smile on his face enchanted her. Thank goodness she’d borrowed Belinda’s dress and had gotten into Inferno.
