Brenya
Was I rescued, or was I captured? I’m not sure anymore. Jules Havel is an enigma. I know he’s capable of great violence, but he’s so gentle with me. Soft-spoken. Patient. The exact opposite of the male he saved me from. But he has done terrible things. And I feel like it’s only a matter of time before he does them to me.

Jules
I know exactly what I am. Dangerous. I watch. I wait. I understand how much pressure it takes to break a man. I’ve overthrown dynasties, ended civilizations. And fell in love. Her name is Brenya, and I stole her from a fool I now keep in a cage for my amusement. She’s afraid of me, believes I cannot be trusted. So I must teach my new wife that safety under Bernard Dome doesn’t come from freedom, it comes from choosing the right monster.

Jacques
I will end Jules Havel and take back what’s mine

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

Bernard Dome

Drowning in one man’s phantom pleasure while filled with another man’s cock… that was how Brenya Perin would perish.

Blown apart, eclipsed, ground into powder and brushed away like dust.

Around her the Red Room burned under the setting sun, light slanting through its towering windows, lacquered walls catching slanted beams of gold and throwing them back tinged crimson. The dying light made everything shine as if wet, bloody. On the table, dinner grew cold. Stew abandoned in its bowl, bread uneaten beside a half-empty cup of cool water.

Condensation gathered on that glass, trailing slowly down the side, one bead after another, like the sweat on her brow.

Brenya missed all of this. Her eyes locked on the unnervingly composed man standing over her.

Like her, Jules wore a black button-down shirt, sleeves rolled to the elbow, exposing the intricate black marks decorating strong forearms. The same shirt he stripped from his body each night to dress her in after she’d bathed. One he pulled over her shoulders before buttoning her up slowly from hem to collar.

Fabric always warm from his skin, rich with comforting Beta scent.

He’d trained her to associate the delicious smell of him with safety. Built a life around her where his presence was always sanctuary. And then he’d done this to her.

Left her at the mercy and cruel whims of another.

Reminded Brenya of her place as an Omega claimed by two dangerous males in a twisted three-way pair-bond she could only ever run from… but never escape. Reinforced the sad reality that it was futile to try. Trapped, as she was, in the clutches of an Alpha monster who was now awake and reaching for her through their link.

Sheltered in the Red Room by a Beta villain who watched her flounder.

Owned by both.

Those limpid blue eyes stared down at her helplessness. Unnaturally bright, so vivid… yet impossible to read. His still, engulfing presence one she’d used to flee Jacques’s violent, manipulative pull more times than she could count. Jules’s mental ocean of unending darkness, his calm sea, nowhere to be found now.

And she tried. Reached for his sanctuary with her mind as he denied her.

Staring. Waiting. Palm open. Demand made.

Did the Beta feel elation to have her wriggle on his hook? Know sadness to see her suffer? Was a man like Jules capable of feeling anything other than the desire for her he claimed consumed him?

He’d placed Jacques in a medically induced coma for weeks so the Alpha could not torment her while she’d healed. Mentally. Surgically.

Repaired the damage Jacques’s cock had done to her when he’d raped her in the street. Gave her back a fully functioning vaginal canal.

Waited until her body had responded on its own to truly tempt.

And it had. Slicking. Seizing. Begging. A drenched, eager reaction to nothing but the imprisoned Alpha’s distant, furious rut and his manipulation of the pair-bond… forcing her to feel every bit of male pleasure. Her cunt ripening, salivating for a knot only an Alpha could give her.

And Jules was a Beta. A Beta who had put her in this humiliating position.

Wide-eyed, Brenya’s expression twisted into heartbroken betrayal as her body pitched toward the cusp of climax against her will. Fingers gripping the edge of the polished wooden chair beneath her, knuckles bone-white, her insides flipped and convulsed, acting out orgasm, though her body remained empty and untouched.

All while Jules stood silently over where she writhed in her chair, his fixed gaze a ruthless anchor, arm still outstretched… waiting for her to take his hand.

To invite him into her nest.

The Beta, her husband, absorbed every tic, each helpless twitch and spilled tear, witnessing the dying of a star as Brenya failed in her instinctual, pointless effort to disconnect. Only to explode again with another orgasm as every part of her she had so carefully patched together in the quiet weeks in Jules’s gentle captivity was torn apart.

Somewhere tucked away, Jacques Bernard was fucking Lucia.

And he was suffering at the feel of another’s cunt.

The Alpha hated it.

Yet relished each sensation. Desperate to bury his guilt and shame as he chased every scrap of pleasure through furious friction against the womb of another. Rage burning hot through the pair-bond. A building whisper in her thoughts tickling corners of her mind she’d thought free of him in her foolish complacency while he’d slept.

“Brenya… come to me.”

And it grew. The bond stretching awake with him, snarling to life with every minute he was parted from sedation.

An Alpha threat that no matter the distance between them, no matter who he fucked, he was inside her.

That they were still one.

Forever.

And that he was coming to collect what was his.

That he would make her come over and over until she remembered who she belonged to. Until she obeyed. Until she stopped pulling away and reached for him through the bond and took all he gave.
The highly anticipated sequel to Addison Cain's critically acclaimed series.
One claiming mark on her throat, another at her shoulder, Brenya Perin stands amidst the soft breeze above the glittering city ruled by her mate. And trembles.
She’d tried to run from her fate. And failed.
Punishment came in the mania of her mate’s obsession, in the Commodore’s constant need for her.
In what he did to her. Twisting a pair-bond meant for two, chaining a third—a dangerous adversary with the power to destroy and desecrate her city.
Ambassador Jules Havel has committed atrocities beyond imagining, and now that she is bonded to her mate’s enigmatic prisoner, only Brenya grasps that nothing will contain the foreigner from claiming revenge against his deceitful host.
Revenge against the Commodore who thought to chain him. Revenge against her people for existing in a Dome ruled by a despot. Revenge against her for tempting his attentions, even if it was unintentionally done.
So she stands in the wind, aware that all who live under the Dome will suffer if she cannot supplicate the soulless monster calling to her from below. Unsure how to please him.
Warm and protected, surrounded in scent, everything was lovely .

Fingers tripped down her spine, a satiny purr moving through her.

Fulfillment, conquest. Triumphant emotions stronger than any she’d ever known brought a satisfied flush to her cheeks and made her hum.

Until she realized they weren’t hers.

Sucking in air as if suddenly drowning, finding her body was not floating but actually in a great deal of discomfort, Brenya mentally flailed in the river of another person’s emotions.

“Shhhhhh.”

It hit her stronger, the alien sentiment. It swept her panic aside as if her own much weaker feelings were meaningless.

“Don’t fight it.”

A forceful psyche prevailed.

Jacques.

Finding herself back in his rooms, in his bed, naked, was shock enough to stop the heart. Realizing none of those wonderful feelings had been real, broke it.

This was not right. She was supposed to be free. She’d gotten out, flown a craft. Why was she not in Thólos repairing their Dome?

Someone was inside her skin, and though she held her fingers up before her face and found she could control them, the invasion was there all the same.

“Take a deep breath.” Jacques’ hand came to her chest. When she obeyed, he added, “Good, now take another.”

Calm—he was inundating her body with manipulative calm.

Brenya’s next blink led to warm drips marking her temples. Staring up in horror, she whispered, “What have you done to me?”

Leaning over, his golden hair loose and spilling around her face, Jacques smiled. Brushing his lips over her eyes, he kissed away her tears. “Made you mine, Brenya. You’re mine completely now. My pair-bonded mate.”

Estrous, the ship, bottles of water rolling over the floor… the Beta warning her not to open the door.

Hours of unbearable pain…

The memories were foggy with only flashes she might piece together, but a thrusting body had been on top of her. Someone had saved her from the pit of hell. Or had they dragged her to it? “It was you….”

“I was only a few hours behind you.” Some of the Alpha’s triumph was replaced with dangerous resentment. “You would have never made it, you know. That vessel was no match for the speed of my ship. I have an army of Alphas conditioned to throw themselves to their deaths on my order. Not a single one even questioned a mission that drew them from the safety of the Dome. I would have invaded Thólos myself if I’d had to.”

And some of those Alphas had watched what she was beginning to remember. Shame formed in the pit of her stomach at the flashes of soldiers clad in bio-suits guarding the cockpit door.

Another with unnaturally vibrant blue eyes licking his lips as she moaned her release.

Cold, Brenya tried to turn to her side to shiver against the mattress. Jacques allowed it, settling against her back to toy with her hair and continue his internal gloating.

“I sense your dissatisfaction.” Amazed, he scoffed at the back of her head. “You mistakenly believe that I will hurt you. I can practically read your thoughts, naughty girl.”

This was a nightmare beyond comprehension, Brenya whispering, “Don’t.”

“And now you’re scared, worried, lost—internally reaching out for your mate to comfort your fears. As you should.” He rewarded her by forgetting his anger and filling her with his joy. “I never want you to feel afraid of me.”

His manipulation was so outright, she could hardly resist.

“You don’t believe me,” he spoke what he sensed, even daring to sound surprised.

How could she? Tears fell in earnest as the truth sank in. “You’re going to kill George.”

“No, mon chou.” His denial was echoed with raw internal confirmation. “The Beta is meaningless at this point.”

Daring to glance over her shoulder despite a shooting pain that followed, she gave him a pathetic “No?”

He kissed her red nose and smiled. “Don’t cry. I don’t want you to fear that there will be any retaliation for your recent… hormonal behavior. You were punished and are forgiven.”

She was humiliated. She was tired. And she was guilty of much more than hormonal behavior. “What’s going to happen to me?”

The arm around her middle tightened as Jacques pulled her flush to his body. “I’m going to make you feel better.”

“I’m sore.”

Husky, he chuckled. “I don’t doubt it. In estrous you were a very greedy girl.”

Estrous had been awful, and had left her wasted, body and soul. She never wanted to think about it again, any of it.

Jacques was not going to allow that.

“You were glorious through all of it, even when you refused to behave. It was the necessary choice to make, and had I not loved you so much, I never could have abided sharing… but it was exciting watching you take us both at once. Feeling another inside you next to me, hearing you come undone.” Rubbing his thickening cock between the cheeks of her ass, he whispered, “I came harder than I ever have before… and Gods, so did you.”
Brenya was torn from her service in Beta Sector and reassigned to serve the Commodore of Bernard Dome’s aggressive physical needs. Out of her depth and confused, she flounders under his untried care. The leader of their Dome is as demanding as he is sweet. He is beautiful, and he is treacherous.
And he has sworn never to let her go.
From the internationally bestselling author of the Alpha’s Claim series, Addison Cain brings you Alpha’s Control. Alongside the Commodore and Brenya, Shepherd and Claire’s story continues under new Domes rife with intrigue and danger. Absolute Power is a 13,000 word prelude to Stolen: Alpha’s Control, Book One.

Publisher’s Note: The Alpha’s Control series is a dark Omegaverse tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.
Gloved hands to the East Sector solar plate, she twisted in her rigging, searching out the perfect angle so light might distort and show hidden danger.

Right there… refraction.

Helmut flush with the damaged pane, she traced over the almost imperceptible feather-like cracks marring the clear amorphous metal.

Routine maintenance scans had misclassified why K73-2554’s solar collection was malfunctioning. It was not a wiring issue; the pane was about to shatter. Damage of this nature led to serious ruptures, evacuations of sectors, and the potential death of everyone inside.

Speaking evenly, she catalogued all she’d found to the tech team supporting her climb behind Bernard Dome’s glass. “Unit 17C to terminal. Pane K73-2554 is damaged beyond original assessment. The structure is badly cracked and will need replacing once fabrication is complete.”

There was a hiss of white noise before her tech’s radio communication came through. “Copy, unit 17C. An urgent status notation has been logged into the repair queue. You are granted clearance to patch while we wait for fabrication. Manufacturing posts a three-hour timeline.”

According to her oxygen reserves, that would give Brenya just under an hour to complete install. It would be a close call. “Roger that. Commencing emergency repair.”

A patch on fissures might postpone catastrophic failure… then again it might not. Though she could not see them, someone on the inside of that reflective glass was scrambling to install metal sheet reinforcement even as Brenya reached for the tools at her belt.

The human race had learned long ago that risks were no longer an option. In order to survive, there had to be layers of safeguards and regulation.

Swaying in her rigging, dangling high above the ground, she tiptoed around the damaged section’s frame. With the aid of a heat gun and strong epoxy, Brenya endeavored to reinforce what would ultimately be a fatal crack. It was delicate work that required patience and a light touch. Too much heat, and the whole panel might shatter, too little, and the epoxy would fail to set. One had to account for the sun, the changing outside temperature. One had to adjust to the blinding glare engineering grunts were trained never to turn their head from.

Grunts tasked with the dangerous job of outer Dome repair were never to let their eyes wander. The verdant, creeping wilderness could not be a distraction. Staring at the open skyline, the distant tips of a dead, crumbling city’s tallest structures were said to encourage mental instability. It endangered all those who relied on them inside to maintain absolute focus.

Those caught looking were grounded and banned from making the descent again.

Failure of so grave a nature led to social ostracizing from the very corps one had been raised with, the family one worked with. Colleagues would find you suspicious; friends would demand one submit to reassignment.

Never would Brenya risk it.

Being selected for the external repair program had already placed her in a less than favorable light amongst her peers—even if the work she did kept them all alive.

Every citizen had heard the stories of engineering grunts who grew obsessed with what languished outside the Dome. Some had even tried to leave, or purposefully harmed the structure that protected them all. If rumors were true, there was even a growing faction of dissenters who quietly questioned if the virus was really a threat.

In the five years she’d routinely made the descent, Brenya seen things outside the Dome people inside would never lay their eyes upon. She was privy to what her colleagues considered temptation. Once a butterfly alit beside a ventilation duct she was reconstructing piece by piece. The insect had been spotted orange, and lightly fluttered its wings as it rested so near, her fingers could almost brush it. She had wanted to watch that insect, to marvel at nature as her ancestors must have done before the plague. But it was forbidden.

Before the increase in her heart rate might signal to her tech a break in protocol, she’d shooed it away. As far as Brenya knew, no soul in the Dome had ever known that, for a matter of seconds, she understood why some grunts grew obsessed with all that lay outside.

“Unit 17C, weather forecasting warns an 18 knot gust will arrive from the north in twenty seconds.”

“Roger.”

With skilled movement, she reached for the magnetic handholds stored in the utility belt around her bio-suit. Swinging her rigging to the left, they were locked into place on an undamaged panel. By the time the wind rushed past her, she was secure, pressed to the side of the Dome, and safe.

It was the second, undeclared gust five minutes later that was her ruin.

While dangling upside-down from her harness in an attempt to finalize the last portion of her repair, tearing wind slammed her straight into the pane so hard she lost her breath. It shattered just like Brenya had reported it would, right before she felt a sudden loss of gravity.
Brenya Perin was ordered to submit.
Bernard Dome is the jewel of Europe, a bastion of art and culture, pleasure and decadence. But life in the city depends on the occupation chosen for you at birth. There is no subversion, no question of who rules. There is no freedom.
And there is no interference from foreign Domes… until a new threat arrives from a distant continent. Shepherd’s right hand man, Jules.
Peace has a price, a price the Commodore of Bernard Dome is willing to pay… so long as the rare Omega remains his.
Shepherd’s influence is on the rise. His machinations are subtle, his hands full tending to his recovering mate. Her safety is his priority, and something he’s willing to risk war to assure. Bernard Dome has what he wants, and they will all be dammed if they deny him.
Claire has a score to settle. Unwilling mate to the brute who viciously conquered her city, she has once again escaped from her Alpha. Hardened by betrayal, cold as the ice outside the Dome, Claire becomes the mission. The Omegas must be freed, no matter the cost.
The price on her head will not deter her; after all, mated and subjugated her life no longer retains value. She can’t eat, she can’t sleep, and she’s running out of time before the inevitable end.
For once, Shepherd finds himself facing an adversary he cannot simply crush, the situation far out of his depth. Desperate to draw his mate back, racked and restless, he is forced to acknowledge that his pregnant Omega is willing to sacrifice her life for her false notion of a greater good.
He holds the key to her compliance and his dying mate’s survival—all he must do is give her exactly what she wants.
Born to be Broken is the second book in Addison Cain's bestselling Alpha's Claim trilogy, an unabashedly dark tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. If you enjoy gritty fiction and suspense that sticks long after you've finished reading, this series is not to be missed.
Scratching at the portal, fingers numb, she slumped to the floor. When the door cracked and squinting eyes showed in the dark, had she the capacity, Claire would have laughed. Never had a man looked more shocked.

She was filthy; stringy hair wet from snow and sweat, limbs badly scraped from her fall. About her throat, a bruise tellingly shaped in a handprint circled like a sad necklace. That was nothing compared to the state of her feet when he tried to help her stand. Torn and bleeding, more skin had been worn away than was sound. Corday hoisted her from the ground, her freezing body flush to his, and locked the door.

"Claire!" He vigorously rubbed his hands up and down the trembling woman's back. "I have you."

It's a good thing he did; once the door locked her eyes rolled back in her skull, Claire unconscious. Corday rushed her to his shower, cranked on the heat, and stood with her under the spray. Her lips were blue, and no wonder considering that temperatures on this level of the Dome had grown near freezing. The Beta stripped off her ruined dress and washed every rivulet of blood from his friend, finding more bruises, more wounds, more reasons to hate Shepherd.

The gauze at her shoulder he'd left for last, grateful at least something had been tended to. But as it grew saturated, he grew worried by what was hinted at under the bandage. Peeling it back, Corday cursed to see what the beast had done to her. Shepherd's claiming marks, the tissue red and distorted—even after what looked like weeks of healing, her shoulder was a fucking mess.

The monster had mutilated her.

The water turned as cold as Corday's blood. He pulled her out, dried her the best he could, and tucked Claire into the warmth of his bed. There she lay, naked and badly damaged, a little color coming back to her hollowed cheeks. One at a time, he uncovered limbs, tending scraps, bandaging wounds, doing his best to preserve her modesty. That didn't mean he didn't see them, the telling bruises mottling her inner thighs.

She looked almost as bad as the Omegas the resistance had rescued…

It frightened him. Not one of those women was thriving. Even safe, they deteriorated—hardly spoke, hardly ate. More of them had died, and though the Enforcers could not pinpoint the cause, Brigadier Dane was certain with all that they'd suffered—the children and mates that had been taken from them—they had simply lost the will to live.

Claire had to be different.

Left arm, right arm, both elbows sluggishly bled. Salve and bandages was the best Corday could offer. But there was nothing he could do for her throat; the mottled yellow-brown bruises were not fresh. The Omega's injuries grew far more complicated with her legs—both kneecaps were grotesque; one gash deep enough to require stitches. He did his best with butterfly sutures, closing the gap of torn flesh, lining up the skin so that it might stand a chance of mending. Her joints would swell—that was unavoidable—and he hesitated to ice them as she was already shivering and still cold to the touch.

"You're gonna be okay, Claire," he promised. "You're safe with me."

Claire opened bloodshot eyes; she looked at the Beta whose face she could read like a book. He was scared for her. "It doesn't hurt."

"Shhh." He leaned down, smiling to see her awake. Stroking the wet, tangled hair from her face, he said, "Rest your throat."

She complied, and Corday worked quickly to finish, disinfecting every abrasion on her outer thighs, knees, and shins. Her feet were a different matter. There was little he could do, and she would hardly be able to walk in the days to come. He picked out the detritus, noting how she didn't move or twitch even when a fresh wave of blood followed a large chunk of glass once it was pulled free. He wrapped her feet tight, and said a prayer to all three Gods that the open wounds would not fester.

Once it looked like she was asleep, he rose.

Claire's hand shot out, her bruised fingers clawing into his sleeve. "Don't go!"

"You need medicine," Corday soothed, weaving his fingers with hers.

Claire held tighter, disjointed and afraid. "Don't leave me alone."

Brushing a pile of bandage wrappers to the floor, Corday did as she wished. He slipped under the covers beside her, offering body heat and a safe place to rest. Claire let him hold her, laying her head on his shoulder, still.

Ashamed to ask, beyond pathetic, she whispered, "Will you purr for me?"

Such a thing was an act of intimacy between lovers and family, but there was no hesitation in the Beta. Corday pulled in a deep breath and started the rumbling vibration at once. The sound was a little off—the act being something he was unaccustomed to—and though it lacked the richness of an Alpha purr, it was infinitely comforting in that moment.
There is a greater threat than the virus.
Locked safely away in Shepherd’s nest, Claire is unaware of what stirs above ground. Her time is occupied fighting a war of another kind. Due to her mate’s relentless exploitation of their pair-bond, the nature of their link has grown consuming to the point that Claire has difficulty differentiating where her feelings begin and his end.
Under its influence, she’s forced to sense the man behind the monster. She can feel the truth of his terrible history. Claire can see the source of madness that drives Shepherd to do such terrible things: Svana.
His mate is desperate to open his eyes, but no matter Claire’s progress, Svana is not yet done with him.
Thólos is coming apart at the seams, and Shepherd’s men can do nothing to stop it. Real war is coming, and unless the Alpha tyrant is willing to pay the ultimate price, everything he has sacrificed will have been for nothing.
Reborn, the final installment in Addison Cain’s bestselling Alpha’s Claim trilogy, is a dark Omegaverse tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. This is not your typical romance with an HEA. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.
He found his mate nervous, the acrid scent of Omega fear spoiling the air. But, mostly she was expectant and blissfully unaware of just what was going on above ground.

And he would never tell her.

Shepherd made no move to approach the panicky woman, he simply stood as Claire looked him over from boots to skull. The Omega searched out any hint of what had called him from her, looking for blood splatter, or the swelling of his knuckles, relieved when she found nothing out of the ordinary.

His Claire was angry, but far more reassured that he’d returned seeming normal.

When the Omega stepped forward to touch him, to initiate what had to be done to seal their bargain, Shepherd spoke. “You are hungry, little one. We will eat first.”

We will eat first?

Shepherd did not go to the door to fetch food. Instead, he went to where he stored his clothing and began pulling off his coat, armor, and boots. Bunched muscles flexed, he pulled his shirt over his head, handing it to her. Unthinkingly, Claire took it and put it, as he expected, in her nest.

Distracted by the task, the Omega chewed her lip, taking time to arrange the scented fabric and remove something old to be washed.

A knock sounded, Shepherd barked for the visitor to enter.

Jules came in with their food, set it down and left in seconds—the trivial familiarity he shared with Claire completely concealed by his indifference. She found it minorly amusing, especially the way Shepherd shifted to put his body between her and the Beta.

When the door closed, Claire found it very difficult to suppress a snort.

“What is funny?” the male growled, narrowing his eyes.

“You are funny, Shepherd.” Claire arranged herself at the table. “That man has brought me meals dozens of times when you are not here—so you must trust him. Yet there you are, glaring at him as if he were not your friend. You have serious issues...”

Shepherd only grunted in answer. Dressed only in trousers, he came to the table. “It is a natural reaction for an Alpha to guard his Omega from dangerous men.”

But not dangerous women...

Glancing at the food, Claire felt wholly disillusioned. She began to comprehend what was going on, what he had arranged for himself. This, the meal, was a show—a show where she was not spectator, but entertainer. She was expected to perform for the man lowering himself into the seat across from her. Reminding herself their agreement only required she initiate sex, nothing more, she picked up her fork and chose not to argue. Instead, Claire focused on the beautiful dinner, the male mirroring her movements and tasting the food.

It seemed awkward, the silence, and out of habit and good manners, Claire found herself wanting to make small talk, knowing it would be both pointless and something Shepherd would not respond to.

Except, he began it. “I have been told this is one of your chef’s most famous dishes.”

Cocking a brow, Claire looked up from the steamed fish and nodded, momentarily confused. “My chef? You do not eat his cooking?”

“Her cooking, and no.”

That seemed strange. “What do you normally eat?”

“What my men eat. Communal food amongst those who’ve endured the Undercroft bears an importance I do not expect you to understand or submit to.”

There were a great many things about the man she didn’t understand.

Seeing that the woman was puzzled and still tense, Shepherd offered a modicum of explanation. “After years subsisting off mold, our digestive tracts have altered. Followers’ diets must be bland, and the required nutritional additives have an unpleasant taste and smell. The bulk of my meal was consumed before I returned to you. This is… supplementary.”

Was that why he never ate in her presence? She looked at the beautifully arranged plate. “Well, considering all your other physical attributes, I think it’s only fair you have one restriction.”

The male smirked, gratified. “Physical attributes?”

“You are very tall,” Claire quipped flatly, taking another bite, not at all interested in padding the Alpha’s ego.

His foot bumped hers under the table. “List another attribute.”

Dodging Alpha pride was something Claire had years of experience with. “You are bald. It must save time not combing your hair.”

Narrowed eyes matched his agitated reply. “I shave my head.”

Claire sneered, pleased her slight had pricked him, and took another bite of dinner.

“You are playing with me, little one,” he added, intrigued, once he saw her mischievous expression.

Gesturing with her fork, Claire explained. “You’re arrogant enough. I am not going to feed that beast.”

Shepherd countered, his own evil smirk appearing. “You will later. When I move inside you tonight, you will hum about my prowess and strength… You will want to say all those things and more.”
She never had a choice. Shepherd vows he will hunt Claire down, ready to burn her city to ash to retrieve his wayward Omega. She may be terrified of him, she may resent the pair-bond he forced, but like it or not, she is his.
Claire is desperate. The Alpha male who conquered her city, who calls her his mate, is every bit as ruthless as his reputation suggests. Wanted flyers bearing her picture litter the streets, the reward offered outrageous.
Her people are starving; there is no safe place for her to hide. It doesn’t matter. Claire has one mission: to protect the last, dwindling enclave of frightened Omega women left alive in the city. Shepherd wants them too. He wants them for his men.
Claire cannot allow that to happen.
The first book in Addison Cain's exciting, raw, and suspense-filled Omegaverse trilogy is a dark tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.
No one seemed to be paying much attention as she passed, ignoring the creature in the stinking, oversized coat when it hesitated at the bottom of broad stairs and looked up at Thólos Citadel. Clutching tighter to the bottle of pills in her pocket, madly gripping her lifeline, she took the first step.

For two days, she had taken one of those priceless pills every four hours like clockwork. Walking into what had once been a restricted area, she should have been saturated in the medication, her metabolism and hormones deceived into complacency. A week's worth of food had been traded so she could make the climb up those steps without being torn to pieces.

She was still mortally afraid.

The roar of the monsters inside—the cheers and heckling as her people were stripped of their dignity, then stripped of their lives—turned her stomach, though the acid feeling may have been a side-effect of the drugs. Already sweating, grateful others had covered her in so many layers to hide what she was, Claire took the smallest breaths, tried not to gag from the stink of rotting corpse that had seasoned her clothes, and walked into madness.

Crossing the entrance was almost too easy. There was no hand gripping her shoulder to cease her movement, no barking Follower demanding she state her business. In fact, the black hole seemed only too willing to suck her in. Over the threshold, the air was ripe with the scent of men; a pungent mixture of aggressive Alpha and some of the more violent Betas who had come to snarl and yip at whoever was that day's entertainment.

Birth titles littered the ground, parchment showing the tread where uncaring boots had trampled what had once signified a life; a tally of names that had been stricken from the books. The scraps of paper were tossed away to mix with discarded flyers, wanted signs, and garbage.

The deeper she went, the more packed each chamber grew, filled by a horde borne of citizens and the castoff Undercroft scum set free the day terror breached Thólos. They were thugs who had taken up the banner of the Dome's conqueror, men with the power to do as they pleased. Men encouraged to do whatever they pleased. Evil men.

She had to be quick, knowing that if the jostling mob discovered what she was under the stinking filth wrapped around her, she'd die horribly, and all the others would be left to starve. One foot after another, back pressed against the wall, eyes darting to and fro, Claire skirted the crowd and prayed to remain unnoticed.

The male Claire sought had a reputation for standing where any could reach him; where all could see who held power, so challengers could be killed—if rumors held true—with his bare hands.

One could not have missed him if they tried.

The villain who had the audacity to call himself the 'Shepherd' was massive, the largest Alpha she had ever seen. And not only that... the Da'rin markings. Whatever they were, they swirled over sun-darkened skin as if an extension of his wrongness—animalistic, unnatural; the intricacy of the patterns drawing the eye straight to muscled arms, warning all who looked that the bearer was treacherous—not to be trusted.

Before her city had fallen, to bear those shifting black marks above ground had been highly illegal—the punishment: execution. He was a convict of the Undercroft, the one who'd liberated the castoffs, and he was the monster responsible for the suffering of her people and for the corpses piling in the streets of Thólos.

Claire swallowed, creeping nearer, choosing to look instead at the armored Follower Shepherd nodded at; a Da'rin marked Beta, from the look of him. It was that man whose sharp blue eyes caught her creeping nearer. Though diminutive was a gentle way to describe Claire, from his expression, the Beta found her to be nothing... less than nothing. He looked away, dismissing her approach.

Gripping those pills, her talisman against evil, Claire walked straight up to the two conversing conquerors. Seeking the giant Alpha's attention, she fought for the words. "I need to speak with you, please."

Shepherd didn't even look at her, blatantly ignoring the swathed female in her stinking clothes.

"It's very important," she tried a little louder, the sincerity of her eyes, the desperation and overwhelming fear apparent.

How many times had this happened in her life? The total disregard, the blatant rejection...

Claire released a frustrated sigh and clutched her pills even tighter. Standing like a tree, a small sapling in a forest of redwoods, she waited and watched him. There was no way she was leaving until she'd spoken with the only person who might be able to save them. He wanted to be leader, he wanted to rule... well, they needed food. Pride had only lasted so long; deep down she knew it would not keep them alive, so she'd come to Shepherd to ask for help.
