I'd never regretted meeting anyone quiet like I regretted meeting Kennedy Meyers. Once upon a time she was my and my sister's best friend.
I'd always loved her, and wanted her to be mine, that is until the night everything changed and my love morphed into pure hatred.
Now I'm a vile bastard with a chip on his shoulder. Cruel black hate is all I know. My only focus *ucking my way through Blackthorn’s elite women and partying.
Then she shows up. She’s different now, shy, quiet, but just as beautiful as she was the day she disappeared.
One look and my focus changes. I decide then that my time for revenge is now. No way does she get to enjoy herself. No, I’m going to make her life hell. Destroy her from the inside out.
I’m going to make her regret ever walking my way, because if it wasn’t for her…my sister would still be alive.
Pain consumes my entire body, my limbs are hard to move, and all I want to do is close my eyes and drift away. My heavy eyelids close with ease.

Wake up. A voice calls, echoing loudly through my mind. Sucking air into my lungs, I gasp at the pungent smell of gasoline that fills my nostrils. My mind is hazy, my thoughts swirling, and nothing makes sense.

Twisting, I realize I can’t move. The seat belt digging into my flesh painfully, holding me in place. Though my gaze is blurry, I can make out the form of my best friend. Her slender body sprawled through the shattered windshield, partially lying on the hood of the car. No! Her face is covered in blood, coming from large gashes on her forehead.

Bile rises in my throat, making me gag.

“Jillian…” I call out. My voice so raspy, I barely recognize it as my own.

She doesn’t move. Her shirt is soaked in red, and my entire body starts to shake. “Jillian, wake up!” Using every ounce of strength I have, I reach for her. Stretching my body painfully, trying to get to her, but my fingers wrap around nothing but air.

Sirens sound off in the distance, someone is coming to save us. Jillian is going to be okay, she has to be. Staring at her lifeless body, I feel something warm dripping down my face.

Blood. Lifting a hand, I touch the side of my face, running my fingers along the deep gash on my cheek. I’m bleeding, but I don’t care. I’m not even scared for myself, but I am terrified for Jillian.

“Jillian! Wake up. Please, wake up. Help is coming,” I beg, my lips trembling, and my words slurring. Tears slip down my face as I wait for help to get here.

The closer the sirens get, the further I feel myself slipping away again. It’s like my entire body is being wrapped in a blanket. Suddenly, the pain in my limbs drifts away until my whole body goes numb. I can’t feel anything, can’t make sense of the noises surrounding me. I can’t see anything besides my best friend. Her lifeless eyes staring back at me, and her beautiful face ashen.

I think footsteps approach, lights, and sirens blur through the quiet night. But all I can do is stare. Watch. Wishing that it was me…

That I was the one dead.

1

Jackson

Three days have passed since I found out Kennedy was here at Blackthorn. The blood in my veins turns to ice at the mere thought of her. Her presence is a constant reminder of the night I lost my sister and how much my family has suffered.

Why is she here?

I clench my fist around air, envisioning her throat being in my grasp. The hate I feel for her is all-consuming. It should terrify me. The things I’ve thought of doing to her should rattle me to the bones, but it doesn’t.

Staring at the entrance to the bookstore, I try to act as if I’m not looking for someone. It took me hours to calm myself enough to get to this point. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. All I know is revenge, anger, and hate are burning through me, threatening to take over any rational thinking.

Grinding my teeth hard enough to crack them, I watch as she walks out of the school bookstore. It’s like seeing a ghost, but when I blink, she is still there. I’d seen her walking across campus, smiling, happy, alive. That was much more than my sister had. She was in the cold, dark ground. No future, no smile. She was part of the earth, and now it’s time for Kennedy to pay. She got a slap on her wrist for what happened that night, but I would make sure that she got a real punishment.

My pulse spikes, excitement coating my insides. Now’s the time to pounce. As soon as she turns the corner and starts down the alleyway between the two buildings, I move. My feet make little sound as I rush toward her.

She should be smarter, pay closer attention to her surroundings. Then again, she probably wasn’t expecting me. I wonder briefly if she knew I was here. If I was part of her choice in coming here.

The first thing to hit me as I get closer to her is her scent. It wafts into my nose, filling my head with memories of a girl I used to love, used to crave. My lip curls in disgust, and I want to punch myself in the cock for thinking about her that way. But such an emotion is impossible to turn off. Even after all this time, she still smells the same, like jasmine and vanilla.

Forget it. Forget her.

Pushing everything but the hate down, I drown myself in the anger and reach for her. My fingers digging into her shoulder. The pads of my fingers burn where I touch her. A gasp escapes her lips as I force her to turn to face me. When I push her back against the brick wall, I become mesmerized, watching as the air expels from her chest.
It was such a shame that she was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. She knew that we would come for her.
We had seen her delicate face that night, hidden in the shadows, and she had seen what we did, her gasp of horror giving her away.
She was perfection, beauty, and oozed goodness but that wasn’t going to save her from us. No one could ever find out our secret, which meant we needed to get rid of her.
But killing her wasn’t an option and scaring her into silence wasn’t as easy of a feat as we expected. She was strong, resilient , and smart doing whatever she could to evade us.
Thus without even knowing it she turned it into a game, and so we became blood thirty wolves. Run and we’ll find you. Keep our secret and you might live. That is until someone else finds out what we did…
I can’t believe I almost forgot this one. Paul would have had a mental breakdown in the morning if I had left the trash in here.

It takes pretty much all the strength I have to lift the full bag out of the bin, so instead of carrying the sucker out, I decide to drag the heavy thing behind me. Hopefully, it won’t leave scratches on the university’s pristine cafeteria floors. I need this job too badly to get in trouble for something stupid.

It’s eerie here without all the students. The huge space is so quiet and empty, but yet, I prefer it over seeing all the rich kids walking around inside. I try really hard not to be jealous, but it’s not that easy. All-day long I have to look at these people who have everything I’ve ever wanted. A family, an education, and a chance at a good life. And the worst part is that they don’t even seem to appreciate what they have.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve overheard someone here complaining about the most ridiculous things. Being upset about a store being out of the newest designer shoes or handbags. Not getting the special edition sports car that they wanted. Having to wait an extra day to get their hands on the newest iPhone… the list goes on. Every complaint more absurd than the next.

Meanwhile, I’m working my ass off just to make ends meet. With my parents gone and my grandma suffering from dementia, all the responsibility for my grandma falls onto me. With that, comes a stack of bills every month and that is the reason I didn’t go to college, even though I had the grades and the ambition to go. Instead, I took any job I could get right after I got out of high school just so I could support Grams and myself.

When I finally make it to the back door of the cafeteria, my arms are sore from dragging this heavy-ass bag. What the hell do they throw in here? Concrete blocks? I push open the heavy metal door and step out into the crisp evening air.

It’s dark outside, and the wind is cold as it whips against my skin, but I enjoy the freshness of it after being stuck inside all day. Reaching the dumpster, I try to figure out how to get this overstuffed trash bag lifted into it without breaking my back. Grunting, I lift it with all my might, but barely get it off the ground. Damn thing.

A sound from behind me has me jumping out of my skin, and I gasp quietly. It’s probably just a raccoon or something. With my heart jackhammering in my chest, I sneak a peek around the dumpster to check, but there’s nothing…

Another sound, this one sounding more like a grunt, which is definitely not a raccoon, causes my curiosity to pique. I should have remembered the saying; curiosity killed the cat…

Leaving the trash sitting on the ground, I tiptoe around the dumpster to peek around the corner of the building. I know I shouldn’t be sneaking around, but this is literally the most exciting thing that’s happened to me in weeks.

Except it’s not quite excitement that I feel when I look around the corner. It’s more like dread and fear. The blood in my veins turns to ice, and the air in my lungs stills at the sight before me. Two guys are lifting a third guy into the trunk of a car.

My head conjures up all kinds of explanations. The guy is drunk… just passed out. It’s probably a prank… no way did I walk in on a murder.

One of the guys shuts the trunk and turns to his friend, asking leisurely, “Where are we going to dump his body?”

A loud gasp leaves my lips before I can stop it from coming out. My hand flies to my mouth to cover it, but it’s too late. Both men turn to me, staring at me as I stand there, probably realizing that I just witnessed what they did.

A beat passes, then another, and we just stare at each other. My body is petrified with fear as I take in the two guys before me. They’re both tall, looming above me by at least a foot, and muscular like athletes. They’re also well-dressed, leading me to believe that they’re some rich kids. I’m positive I’ve seen them before, and I am one-hundred percent sure they go to school here. Even with the dim lighting above, I can tell that one of them is blond with piercing green eyes, the other one is brown-haired with dark eyes.

Without realizing it, I get lost in those dark brown eyes, their depth sucking me in, letting me momentarily forget where I am and what I’m doing.
They say there is always a calm before the storm. A time when you think you’re safe, protected from the destruction that you know is going to eventually come. Harper was that calm. And I? I was the motherfucking storm. As kids we were best friends. She was the light to my darkness. I used to protect her from her bullies, now I’ll become her most feared one.
Seeing her for the first time after three years was like a bucket of ice water being poured on me. It chilled me to the bone, making me irrational, angry. No longer is she a little girl but a grown woman with curves and eyes that pierce my black soul. No one knows the darkness that lingers under the surface, all they see is my smile, my charismatic charm. I’m the all American golden boy.
Having her back in my life is awakening something inside of me. She reminds me of everything good, everything I’ll never have and I refuse to let her stay. She has to go and the only person dark enough, dirty enough to scare her away is me…
Breaking Harper isn’t as easy… I thought I knew everything, turns out others are just as good at hiding their secrets as I am. Damaged, dark and falling off the deep end. Will I break her? Will I break us?
“Sometimes the scariest monsters aren’t those that hide in the dark. Sometimes they’re the ones hidden right in plain sight… like me.”
**This is a standalone DARK bully romance. This book contains scenes that may be triggering to some readers. This is not a YA romance novel and should be read by those only 18+ or older. **
Fucking my way through the female population, trying to forget she ever existed. Three years, since I laid eyes on her beautiful face and perfect little body. Three years since I smelt the flowery scent of her hair or tasted the sweetness that always seemed to linger on her lips.

Three years, and there she stands… right in front of me, in the middle of the cafeteria, on my fucking campus. I didn’t think it was possible, but she looks even more beautiful than the last time I saw her. Even from a distance, I can see she’s grown into her body, shapely chest, curves, and legs I could’ve pictured wrapped around my waist.

Fuck that. The thought leaves my mind throbbing. That was before. Now I wouldn’t touch her if she was the last fucking girl on the planet.

She turns to me then, and our eyes lock. Like two magnets drawn to each other in a sea of polar opposites. I hate that I’m drawn to her. Her hazel eyes widen, and I know the exact second recognition sets in. The next second, she looks away, breaking the connection.

In an instant, I become someone else. Just like that, my switch flips. I turn into a darker version of myself, a version that feeds on the pain she caused me. I loved her, trusted her, and she betrayed all of that. She betrayed me.

I’ll never forget the way she looked at me that day, the image is ingrained into my mind. She looked so sad and confused as her family drove off my parents’ estate. I wanted to hurt her, crush her like a fly, but I refrained. Being content with sending her away and never seeing her again. My silence over her betrayal was enough for me.

She knew what she had done, there was no coming back from that kind of lie. I tried to reason with myself, tried to say there was no way it was true, but the proof was there. In black and white.

“Who is she?” Parker asks, pulling me out of the haze I was in.

“She’s no one,” I snap, showing more of my true colors than I intended.

“Dude, she’s obviously someone. I’ve never seen your face change so quickly. It was almost like you were seeing a ghost.”

I force a smile, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it looks more like a snarl. “That’s because I was. She’s no one, nothing. Forget you saw her.” I don’t want Parker to get involved in this. Not wanting to talk about it with my best friend any longer, I jump up from my seat and head toward Harper.

Everything around me fades away, the clanking of lunch dishes, the gossiping girls I pass on my way over to her. All I can see is her. I zero in on Harper, like she is the only person in this large room.

Just as I get within earshot, she turns again, almost as if she’s sensed me coming. Her entire body goes rigid, and she takes a tiny step backward.

I almost smile. Be afraid. Be very afraid. My muscles burn with energy, and my fingers itch to touch her. Will I hurt her?

“What the hell are you doing here?” I growl.

“I-I go to s-school here,” she stutters, holding onto her backpack strap like her life depends on it.

“No, you’re not,” I order. Circling her arm with my fingers, I pull her out of the cafeteria and through the doors that lead out to the garden, keeping my hold tight.

“Let me go,” she whisper-yells, her eyes darting around the room like someone might see and help her. Doesn’t she know, no one will save her? That no one in this school can touch me or any of the other guys in our little group? Probably not, but she will, soon enough. Ignoring her struggles, I push forward, tugging her through the black double doors and outside. Eyes burn over my skin as we walk out, but it doesn’t bother me. I don’t give a flying fuck if the whole school knows what’s going on.

By the time I’m done with her, her reputation, and whatever rumor is spread after this will be the least of her worries.

“Warren, stop, you’re hurting me.” So sweet, so soft, and sing-song like. That voice, it used to be able to get me to do anything, but now, I just want to wrap my hands around her throat and get her to stop talking. Get the memories of us out of my mind.

Tugging her through the grass, I stop once we reach one of the sitting areas next to the vine-covered brick wall. She trips over her feet, nearly falling to the ground before catching herself. She looks up at me, her eyes wide, her chest rising and falling rapidly, I can see her pulse throbbing in her throat.
Two years ago she ruined my family’s life. Maybe she thought it was only a little lie. That she did the right thing, that the worst was behind her, that no one had gotten hurt.
Now I just want revenge, and I’ll do whatever I can to get it. You see the beautiful, sweet, Willow doesn’t realize the mistake she’s made yet. She doesn’t realize that she’s entered the lion's den and there won’t be any escaping her fate.
I’m Parker Rothschild, and I’ll become her nightmare, her enemy, her bully. By the time I’m finished with her she’ll be begging me for forgiveness and pleading to confess her sins.
I didn’t fucking do it.” Brett’s voice echoes in my mind. The image of him being taken out of the court room plays behind my closed eyes. I wake up drenched from head to toe in sweat, my heart racing inside my chest, beating against my rib cage like it might break free and fly away. I don’t remember the last time I had a nightmare like this. Sitting up in my bed, I shove the covers off my clammy body and force air into my lungs, reminding myself that I did the right thing.

You’re a good person, Willow. You know it was him. You did the right thing. I tell myself as I drag my butt into the shower and get ready for the day. Thank God these dorms have bathrooms attached to each room. I guess that’s to be expected in one of the most elite universities in the country.

Washing my hair and body on autopilot, I rinse off and step out, grabbing a fluffy towel off the rack.

There is a small brunch event for all the freshmen and their families, and if I’m late… Shivers ripple down my back at the thought. After all the things my father did to get me into this school, I don’t want to think of what might happen to me if I mess this up.

“You’ll do right by our family name. You won’t make a mockery out of me like your sister did, will you?” My father’s stern voice rings out through my ears as a reminder of what’s to come. Even after everything my sister had gone through, he still blamed her, still disowned her. Now she has nothing, and I’m forced to live up to my father’s incredibly high standards. Then again, it’s this or allow my sister to be homeless.

The only plus side to being here is that it’s a two-hour drive from my father’s estate to Blackthorn, and I doubt he will attend any of the family events, nor does he expect me to come home for the weekends. Thank God for that.

Alice, my roommate, groans into her pillow, her silky blonde hair nothing more than a knotted mess on her head. “It’s morning already? It feels like I hardly slept,” she groans.

“You literally drank like three Starbucks Espressos last night. I’m shocked you went to bed at all,” I snort.

“It’s not my fault your definition of water and mine are two different things,” she yawns as she slowly pushes from the bed. “I need coffee to function, okay? Don’t hate.”

My lips turn up into a tiny smile, and I laugh softly. Alice is everything I’m not; lighthearted, funny, comes from a loving family. She doesn’t have a care in the world, while I carry so many burdens, my back hurts.

She is, the glass is half-full, kind of person, while I’m, the glass is always half-empty, kind. Maybe we are a case of opposites attract because, since the moment I walked into the dorms, we hit it off. Alice introduced herself with a bright smile on her face, and like two magnets, we were drawn to each other. She’s only been my roommate for a week, but we’ve already grown closer than I thought possible.

When I arrived at Blackthorn, I had very low expectations when it came to making friends. Back home, I had a plethora of friends; girls and guys. I was the popular girl, just like my sister had been. But all of that changed one night two years ago.

After everyone found out about what happened to my sister, everything fell apart. People stopped talking to me and turned their backs on us. They passed me in the school hallway like I was nothing more than a stranger, whispering to their friends. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hurt by it, but honestly, I got over it. I don’t need people to pretend to be my friends. If they are not real friends, then they are not worthy of being my friend at all.

“Is your dad coming to the freshman welcome brunch?” Tensing at the mention of my father, I shake my head.

“No, he’s got to work, and it’s too long of a drive for him to make out here.”

“Oh, sorry. I thought I might get to meet your family,” she chimes, blissfully unaware of what an ass my dad is. I haven’t told her any of my family drama yet, and I don’t think I will, not anytime soon at least. I would like to keep at least one person as a friend.

Getting dressed quickly, I tug on a pair of black skinny jeans and a pink blouse, then I look at myself in the mirror. With my long black hair still wet and clinging to my shoulders, I look like a drowned cat.
