Brighton Rogers thought her life was as normal as normal could be, even better than normal. She has a thriving career as a lawyer in Boston. Friends and family back in her hometown of Boggy Creek love and adore her. And her boyfriend, Luke Morrison, showers her with love and attention, making her life finally feel complete.
But when Brighton discovers what life with a famous actor is all about—her normal life is turned upside down. All this time, Brighton felt that what they shared was genuine, that Luke was her forever; but now she can’t help but wonder if it was all an act. Was she playing a role she had no idea she’d been cast in? So, she does the one thing she can do and runs straight back to the safety of Boggy Creek.
Luke Morrison never imagined he would entertain the thought of leaving behind his successful career as an actor. Not just any actor, one of the top paid actors in Hollywood. But the moment he meets Brighton on a blind date, his life is changed forever. The only problem is balancing his career while attempting to keep his private life just that…private.
When one too many misunderstandings happen because of the press, Brighton breaks up with Luke, causing him to rethink what lies ahead in his future. A future he cannot imagine without Brighton Rogers in it. But Brighton is no ordinary woman and winning her back will force Luke to make one of the biggest sacrifices he’s ever made; one he is positive he can make because a life without Bree in it, is no life at all.
Now, to win back the love of his life and prove to her she is all that matters to him…
The familiar sign, Willow Tree Inn, greeted me like an old friend. A warm feeling wrapped around my body. It had nothing to do with the spring weather or the sweat I had worked up running, and everything to do with being home. This had been my safe place for the last few months.

It was a relief that my parents hadn’t questioned my reasons for leaving my job in Boston as a successful divorce lawyer—or my cute little condo I adored—and running back to Boggy Creek as fast as I could. I had expected them to try and figure out that little mystery, but they hadn’t. For the last three-and-a-half months or so, I had safely hidden within the walls of Willow Tree Inn.

Too bad my heart was still as broken today as it was back in January.

I made my way toward the two-story, white colonial house, taking in all the spring flowers that were starting to bloom in the gardens my mother had planted along the front of the house. The large willow and oak trees loomed over the house, as if protecting it. The scent of the different flowers—roses, daisies, forget-me-nots—and the ivory plants that greeted guests filled my senses. I bounded up the steps and onto the large front porch. Hanging baskets filled with colorful plants were strung along the porch, framing the white rocking chairs and the swing that guests could sit in to enjoy the fresh air. May in New Hampshire was a beautiful time of year, and I was honestly surprised not to see anyone out here.

I leaned over to catch my breath, only to have the front door to the house open and my mother step outside. “Brighton! Darling, I need a favor from you ASAP.”

Standing up, I pulled in some air. “Christ, Mom, let me catch my breath.”

“Don’t use the Lord’s name in vain, Brighton Willow Rogers!”

Ahh, the joys of living back at home. I was staying in the small cottage on the back of the property. When I’d made my rush back to town, I’d thought it would be fine. I mean, I wasn’t moving back in with them, just near them. My folks lived on the third floor of the bed and breakfast. They had converted what used to be the attic into a little studio apartment. There was a private bathroom and a small kitchen up there, though I was positive my mother never used the latter.

“By the way, you got home late last night,” she said. “Were you with anyone?”

I stared at her as I took in a few deep breaths. It was moments like this that made me realize I had made a stupid decision moving back home and thinking I would have privacy in the cottage. My mother hadn’t gotten that memo. She showed up at my place whenever she wanted, tried to set me up with random guys I went to high school with who were still single, and, for some reason, had left me a list of songs to help mend a broken heart. I hadn’t even told my mother my heart was broken. But apparently, she had some weird hocus-pocus magic shit that made her know these sorts of things, because my heart had indeed been broken. Not in two, but into a million damn pieces.

“Mom, I’m thirty years old as of this morning. I don’t think you can keep calling me by my middle name, nor should you be asking me about who I was with last night.”

Her eyes grew wide with hope.

“But for the record,” I said, “I was out with the girls. We met for dinner and drinks, and then went back to Greer’s house for a book club meeting.”

My mother frowned. “A book club meeting? Brighton, that’s all women.”

“Not true, Mom. There is a one guy in the club.”

She rolled her eyes. “Kyle Larson does not count.”

I had to fight not to laugh. “I’m sure he’d disagree with you on that one. Now, back to you being all up in my business. Mom, you can’t question where I go or who I’m with; I’m not ten. And you can’t call me by my middle name. It’s embarrassing.”

Her brows rose and a look I remembered all too well from my days of getting caught sneaking into my bedroom window appeared on her face.

I took a step away from her. “Or, maybe you can. What did you need me to do?”

Her scowl was quickly replaced with a smile. “We just had a guest check in.” She motioned for me to come closer, so she could lower her voice. “Lord, he’s handsome. No ring on his finger.”
Arabella Adams was the one woman I would have laid my life down for, no matter the circumstance, because that’s what you would do for your soulmate. But when she broke up with me our senior year of college—for no reason or explanation at all—my world as I knew it fell completely apart. My heart was instantly ripped from my chest…and it was a pain I felt in my very soul, and one I never truly recovered from.
Now, here I am, ten years later, and I’ve finally learned the real reason Bella pushed me away. So, I must prove to her that anything that happened in her past—our past—doesn’t change the way I feel about her. After all, soulmates never stop loving each other, and even a decade later, I will make her see that I will protect her until the day I die.
Because you see, we promised one another we wouldn’t keep secrets, wouldn’t hide parts of ourselves that the other wouldn’t understand. Except, well, I lied. Because the moment I find the person who took Bella from me all those years ago, I’m going to make him pay for every lost moment of the past ten years, and nothing—not even the fact I’m a cop—will stop me from inflicting the same level of pain on him that Arabella and me endured all this time.

Note to readers: Arabella endures trauma no woman should have to suffer. Respectfully, the author invites you to emotionally and mentally prepare before experiencing this book on your own terms, should you choose to do so.

Books in Series:

Boggy Creek Valley Series by Kelly Elliott

Books by Author:

Kelly Elliott

Hunter

The sound of hundreds of swarming bees nearly lulled me to sleep as I stared up at the clear blue sky. Arabella lay next to me, her head on my stomach with a book in her hand while she read, and I prayed one of those bees wouldn’t sting me.

“How many times do you think you’ve been stung by a bee?” I asked, watching one small cloud meander across the sky.

Arabella put her book down across her stomach, clearly thinking about my question. “Well, if I had to guess, I’d say thousands of times.”

“And you still want to do this? Take over the apiary someday?”

She sat up and spun around to face me. “More than anything. The bees are all I’ve ever known. When I’m around them I feel so calm. Safe.” After a beat, she looked away, blushing slightly.

I touched her arm. “Tell me what you just thought?”

“Well,” she said, climbing on top of my lap to straddle me. “I feel safest when I’m with you. In your arms.”

I couldn’t help but smile. I loved Arabella Adams and had since the first time I saw her on the playground in elementary school. Her blonde hair had been up in a ponytail, and she’d been carrying a lunchbox that was in the shape of a bee. I might not have known I was in love with her then, but I knew she was going to be my best friend. And she was.

I, of course, also had my guy best friends. Aiden O’Hara, who was joining the Navy right after graduation. Kyle Larson, who planned on following in his dad’s footsteps and becoming a cop. Adam Smith, who was destined to be a doctor, no doubt about that. And Bishop Harris, who had dreams of owning the local Christmas tree farm in Boggy Creek. They were more like brothers to me, if I was honest.

We’d all had a clear path from a young age, and I’d thought I’d known mine. I was planning on going into the Navy with Aiden. It would have sucked to be away from Bella, but it was something Aiden and I had talked about for as long as I could remember. It was our plan. Then my father ended up getting cancer, and I knew what I needed to do. Go to college, get a degree like he’d always wanted, and get my ass back to Boggy Creek to make sure my mom and two baby sisters would always be taken care of in case anything happened to Dad.

So, I chose to go with my second choice. Be a cop. It’s what I’d wanted to do in the Navy, so it wasn’t that much of a difference. A part of me couldn’t help but be a tad bitter that I couldn’t join the Navy, but my family was my number one concern. Always.

“I’m glad you feel safest with me, Bella. Don’t ever forget that. I’ll always protect you.”

She smiled and leaned down. “I know I shouldn’t say this, but I’m glad you’re not going into the Navy.”

I raised a brow and sat up. Arabella draped her arms around my shoulders and played with the hair at the nape of my neck. “Why?”

A blush appeared on her face again. God, I freaking loved how easy it was to do that to her. She had one of the sweetest personalities I’d ever known. Her heart was nothing but pure kindness—with a little bit of a naughty side that I also loved.

“Because that means once we finish college, we can get married.”

I blinked a few times and then laughed. “I’m sorry, but isn’t the guy supposed to propose?”

She nodded. “I didn’t propose just now. I simply stated a fact.”

I laughed again.

Bella’s smile slipped. “You do want to marry me, don’t you?”

Before she could react, I turned her around and lay her on the blanket. “I love you, Bella. More than I love anything in this entire world. And you’re mine. My heart will always belong to you, and that’s a promise I never intend on breaking.”

I ran my finger lightly along her jawline, down her neck, and across her chest. “I love knowing I’m the only man who has ever touched you. Kissed you.”

There went the blush, this time moving over the tops of her breasts. “And you’ll always be the only man.”

Rubbing my nose over hers, I whispered, “Good. Now, how long did you say your folks were gonna be in town for?”

A smile grew across her beautiful face. “Until at least dark.”

I moved my hand up along her exposed leg, causing her to shiver. “I really love it when you wear dresses, Bella.”

“I know. That’s why I wear so many of them.”

“You naughty girl,” I said as I slipped my hand into her panties. She arched her back and let out a soft moan.
The day I first laid eyes on Abby Boyer, I knew she was the one. The girl I would marry and spend the rest of my life with, and I vowed to do everything I could to make her happy.
There was just one problem, I couldn’t make her happy during one of the darkest moments of our marriage. No matter how hard I tried, my love for her wasn’t enough to make her stay.
I’ve spent the last two years of my life trying to forget how much I still loved her.
Wouldn’t you know it, now that I finally managed to move on, Abby shows back up in Boggy Creek. Out of the blue. Here to stay.
They say time heals all wounds—well, two years wasn’t enough time to cover up the scars of our broken past because I still feel the pain like it was yesterday. My wounds are still healing, and not even my love for Abby can fix us…but will that love allow me to forgive her and finally move on?
She must not have felt like going to work at her folks’ flower farm again. Her parents had been understanding, of course, as day after day went by and Abby still wasn’t there. Her emotions had been all over the place, and I had to admit I was holding on by a thin thread. I had done my best to be there for her, but she’d been slowly pushing me away.

I parked next to the Toyota Camry we had bought a few years ago and sat for a few moments to get my own head in the right place before I walked into the house. I needed to be strong for both of us. There were days when Abby didn’t even get out of bed, but the last few weeks she’d seemed to be doing better. Last night, she had finally let me in some. She’d walked into my office in the house and crawled onto my lap. I dropped everything I’d been working on and held her.

When she whispered for me to make love to her, I’d hesitated. I hadn’t touched her in over a month. Every time I tried to get close to her, she’d push me away or start to cry. But last night, I caught a glimpse of my wife once again. I made love to her right there in my office, in front of the fire on a bed made of blankets.

I closed my eyes and let the memory of her words come back to me.

“I’ll love you forever, Bishop. I need you to know that.”

I wrapped my arms around her tightly. “I’ll love you more, Abs.”

I could feel her soft breath on my chest as she laughed. She snuggled in deeper against my chest and soon drifted off. It was the first night in nearly six weeks that she hadn’t cried herself to sleep.

I opened the door of my truck and slid out—then came to an abrupt halt. Blinking a few times, I stared at Abby as she stood there with her suitcase by her side and a large bag over her shoulder.

“I thought you were in a meeting?” she asked with a guilty look on her face.

“It ended early, so I came home before I headed down to the farm. Where are you going, Abs?” I asked, taking a step closer.

She held up her hand to stop me, and I stilled.

I could see the pain in her eyes and the hurt on her face, and it nearly killed me. I was going to lose my goddamn mind if she didn’t let me help her soon. Then she gave me a slight smile, and for the briefest of moments, that same fourteen-year-old girl was back in front of me, and my breath caught.

The first moment I ever saw Abby Boyer, I knew she was the girl I was going to marry. Her folks had moved to Boggy Creek when she was a freshman. For two years, I tried to win her over. I came so close so many times, but she’d always push me away and tell me I was a hopeless flirt who would never be able to love just one girl.

I proved her wrong. Asked her to marry me our senior year. We got married at nineteen on this very hilltop.

Now Abby’s smile was gone as fast as it came. A cold chill rushed through me as I stared at her. She was the only girl who had ever captured my heart, and now she stood in front of me—sixteen years after the first time I’d ever laid eyes on her—with a look on her face that scared the living shit out of me.

Abby broke our eye contact and stared down at the ground. “I’m leaving for a while.”

I jerked back like she’d hit me. “Leaving? Where? Are you going to your folks’? If you want some alone time, babe, I can go.”

Her eyes jerked up and met mine again. She shook her head. “No, it’s not like that, Bishop. I can’t…I can’t do this. I can’t be…I can’t be with you anymore.”

I stood there motionless while I let her words sink into my brain.

“Wait,” I said with a disbelieving laugh. “You’re…leaving me? Abby, don’t do this! I said I would do anything you wanted. I’m trying, Abs. What do you want from me? I’m trying to figure out how you need me to help you, but you keep pushing me away. If you want, I’ll hire someone to work the tree farm and we can go somewhere. Anywhere you want, baby. I’ll do whatever.”

She sniffled and shook her head. “I just need a little bit of time, Bishop. I always wanted to live in Boston, see what living in the big city was like. I think that’s where I need to go.”
Hudson Higgins had fond memories of Boggy Creek from his childhood. So what better place to escape New York City for a few weeks to finish up a book that was nearing deadline than the small town in New Hampshire his parents visited nearly every summer.
What he couldn’t have known was how his life would be turned upside down when he walked into Greer Larson’s bookstore his first day in town.
Greer Larson lived a quiet life in her hometown of Boggy Creek. She had worked nearly her whole adult life to make her dreams of owning her bookstore come true—and now, Turning Pages was her everything. She lived, eat, and breathed the success of owning her own business.
That is, until a stranger came to town and showed Greer that there was more to life than simply working. A friendship between Greer and Hudson quickly formed over their love of books and the outdoors.
When Greer’s bookstore is threatened, Hudson soon realizes he hasn’t simply fallen for the charm of Boggy Creek and Greer, he’d fallen in love…with both the town, and the woman who stole his heart from the moment she first smiled at him.
Playing with Words is book two in the Boggy Creek Valley series and is a stand alone novel.

Books in Series:

Boggy Creek Valley Series by Kelly Elliott

Books by Author:

Kelly Elliott

Greer

What do you do when a drop-dead gorgeous man walks into your bookstore and asks if you have a quiet corner for him to work in?

If you’re me, you stare at him for a good minute before you get your mouth to properly function.

After endless attempts at forming words, I finally got a sentence out. Okay, maybe not a full one, but words came out.

“Um…you need a quiet corner?”

A slow, easy smile spread over his face, and my eyes instantly locked onto his dimples. Lord, what was it about a man and dimples that got me every time?

A sharp elbow hit me in the side, and I cleared my throat. “Right. I have a small workroom, er, um, study room in the back that I created for the high school kids to study in when they need to. You’re more than welcome to use it, no one hardly does. There are also some sitting areas up on the second floor tucked away in some nooks. But we’re doing a bit of remodeling up there, so it can get noisy at times.”

His smile suddenly turned brilliant, and I felt my eyes start to blink rapidly. Jesus tap-dancing Christ. It should be illegal for a guy this handsome to smile like that. It could render a girl stupefied, which was clearly what was happening to me.

“What are you doing?” a voice whispered next to me.

“Great—is the room locked or can I walk right in?” Utterly Handsome Guy asked.

I shook the fog from my brain and forced myself to act like a normal human being. “It’s locked, but let me grab you the key.” Spinning around, I fumbled for the key that was hanging on a hook behind the checkout counter.

After a few deep breaths, I faced him again. I held out the key. “Here it is. The key. To the room. The study room. The quiet room. The, um…room you asked about. To work, I guess, or for whatever reason you need it. Not that it’s my business or anything like that.”

Candace, who was my best friend and also an employee at the bookstore, stepped closer to me and spoke so low I hardly heard her. “Abort! Stop talking, Greer!”

Having clearly heard what Candace said, the handsome stranger glanced away. Which gave me a moment to internally smack myself.

When it was clear I wasn’t recovering at a fast enough pace, Candace took the key from my hand. “I’ll show you to the room we’ve set aside.”

He nodded at her. “Thank you.”

Goodness, his voice was so sexy. Oh my God. What was wrong with me? Had it been that long since I was with a man? Or had it been that long since any man made my body tingle the way it was now?

Get a hold of yourself, Greer Larson!

“Of course,” Candace said, walking behind me. “Is this your first visit to Boggy Creek?”

He looked down at Candace and answered with a laugh. “No, my family used to visit this area when I was younger, and it’s always been one of my favorite places. I haven’t been here since…”

His voice trailed off as they made their way through the bookstore, speaking in hushed voices as if they were in a library.

With a sigh, I leaned my hip against the counter. From across the store, I heard Candace laugh, and I couldn’t help but smile. My best friend had a way with people; she always had. Never mind that she was insanely beautiful, with her curly dark hair, golden brown skin, and dark chocolate eyes that were warm and inviting. People seemed to instantly connect with Candace. Her personality was off the charts. Funny, friendly, smart, and caring. She would most likely emerge from the room with a new best friend or a date for tonight.

Or both.

That had me feeling a tad bit…angry? No, I wasn’t angry at Candace. Maybe a bit jealous that she hadn’t lost her shit in front of the handsome stranger like I had.

“Who was that?”

I nearly jumped out of my skin as I spun around and came face to face with Brighton Rogers. Her folks owned Willow Tree Bed and Breakfast here in Boggy Creek. She was a lawyer in Boston, but lately she had been spending more and more time back in Boggy Creek. Especially since she and Willamina O’Hara had reconnected. They were both a few years younger than me and had been best friends in high school. Brighton was Willa’s divorce attorney when she’d divorced her first husband, who was a jerk. But now Willa was married to Aiden O’Hara and the happiest I had ever seen her.

“Bree, you scared the living daylights out of me!” I said with a nervous chuckle.

Brighton raised one brow. “Was that because you were eye-fucking the hell out of the hot guy Candace took to your private room.” She waggled her brows and leaned in closer. “I always did think you had a naughty side behind the bookish nerd persona you put on.”
The butterfly effect — one small change, one moment in time that impacts the future.
At twenty-six years old I never dreamed I’d walk in on my husband in bed with my best friend. At twenty-seven years old I found myself divorced, and the mother of a one-year-old son. Never mind I was learning to take the reins of my family’s apple orchard business. There was no way my life could be any more complicated…or so I thought.
Can a woman who’s lost all trust in men help a man who can’t even trust himself?
Aiden O’Hara was my brother’s best friend, and I would be remiss if I said I hadn’t always found him utterly attractive—and the passing of time or circumstances didn’t change that. But when he moves back to Boggy Creek Valley after serving his time as a Navy SEAL, I cannot deny the pull I feel between us.
Aiden is haunted by his own demons—demons that seem bigger than the both of us—and my heart warns me to stay away. I’d been burned already and didn’t need that added complication in my life, or so I thought. But one moment in time changes everything between us, and neither one of us can deny the hidden feelings we share.
Our pasts want to keep us apart…our future will be up to the wings of fate.
The Butterfly Effect is book one in the Boggy Creek Valley series and is a stand-alone novel.

Aiden O’Hara.

If you looked up handsome in the dictionary, you’d see his picture under the word. Such a clichéd thing to say, but it was true. Dark brown hair and gray eyes that changed colors depending on his mood, the color of his shirt, or even if the sky was blue or cloudy. He had a body that should have belonged on a twenty-something-year-old instead of an eighteen-year-old. My older sister once said Aiden had hair that made a girl want to slip her fingers through it and see if it was as smooth and soft as it looked.

There was more to Aiden than his good looks though. He was kindhearted and would do anything for anyone if they asked. Aiden was smart. Very smart. Out of almost one-hundred kids in his graduating class, Aiden was on track to be the valedictorian, and I had overheard my mother telling my brother, Hunter, that Aiden could go to any college he wanted.

That wasn’t the path Aiden desired though. He was set to join the Navy right after high school, just like his daddy had done and his granddad as well. Aiden wanted to be a SEAL, and it was all he ever talked about. My brother, who was best friends with Aiden, had also thought about joining until our father was diagnosed with prostate cancer during Hunter’s junior year of high school. Hunter didn’t have the heart to leave, knowing things would be up in the air with the family orchard.

Boggy Creek Valley Apple Orchard. It was my father’s pride and joy…well, besides his three kids. My family owned one of the largest apple orchards in the United States. It had been in my father’s family for four generations and had started off with a few apple trees and a dream. Now? Two-hundred-and-fifty acres of trees and more than thirty-five different varieties of apples. My favorite was the Pink Lady, with my father’s and the rest of the Turner clan preferring Gala.

Lacy said I just had to be the different one.

With our father’s health unknown, Hunter had recently made the decision to not go into the Navy with Aiden like they’d originally planned. They were like brothers, and Aiden spent more time at our house than he did his own, especially after his father had died a few years back in a car accident. Aiden’s mother, Rose, was good friends with my mother, Mary, and she had leaned on our family a lot after the death of her husband.

Aiden’s grandfather owned a construction business in Boggy Creek, and his family had built most of the buildings around town. Most dated all the way back to when the town was founded. Aiden’s father had left the Navy to help his father run the business, and when Aiden had declared that he didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of the previous O’Hara men, his grandfather had given him his blessing to follow his own dreams. Aiden had promised him he would return to Boggy Creek someday to take over the family business. But he needed to pursue his own path until then.

My thoughts were interrupted by my sister when she walked into the kitchen and grabbed a box of Fruity Pebbles. She promptly poured some into a bowl and started to eat.

“I still don’t understand why you don’t use milk,” I said, before taking a bite of my oatmeal.

Lacy shrugged. “I don’t like it when it gets soggy. It’s gross.”

I laughed and went back to eating my breakfast as I stole glances toward the doorway.

When I focused back on my breakfast and my sister, she was giving me a once-over, a giant smirk on her face.

“What?” I asked.

She gave me a half shrug. “Baby sister is growing up. Do you have makeup on, Willa?”

My cheeks felt hot. “A little.”

Lacy winked. “You look beautiful, and I swear you grew up over Christmas break. The boys are going to stumble over their own feet when they get one look at you.”

I laughed and shook my head. There was only one guy I wanted to have look at me.

Aiden.

I was three years younger than Aiden, but that didn’t stop my lustful feelings for him. I wasn’t really sure when he had turned from my older brother’s best friend into the boy I had fallen head over heels for. He often had a starring role in my dreams, and I wanted Aiden to be my first. The man who would take away my innocence. High hopes for someone whom Aiden clearly thought of as his little sister. He hadn’t really paid much attention to me over the years, except for the occasional pat on the head, or an invite to go to the pond on his folks’ property.
