Over a year – that’s how long he’s been gone now.

Not knowing if he’s alive or dead, Willow has suffered through the hardest time of her life. With no ending in sight, it almost feels like she’ll never breathe again. Jagger saved her, gave up his life for hers, and left her alone and broken. Then, without warning, the gang left her, too. Leaving her with nothing. No one.

That is until they decided to show up again, out of the blue. They want to help. They're giving her hope. Can she get Jagger back? Is she willing to risk her life for him? Is she willing to give it all up to save him? She’s not the same person she was a year ago, things have changed, she has changed. But she still holds a piece of him close, a piece of him he hasn’t yet met.

Their son.

Can she risk both of them, to save the man she loves?

Come on this wild conclusion to the Dark Brother series and fall in love all over again!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

WILLOW

GRIEF, THEY SAY, COMES in five stages.

The first: denial; the stage where a person will continue to tell themselves they feel fine, they’re going to recover easily, nothing is happening.

The second: anger; how could I let this happen? How could they let this happen? I hate everyone, they will pay for this.

The third: bargaining; I’ll change my life, I’ll fix everything, I’ll change who I am just to make this better. I’ll do whatever it takes, anything in the world, to make this go away.

The fourth: depression; I can’t live, I can’t breathe. The days are long, the nights ... longer. Nothing feels right. Everything is empty. The bottomless pit that is your stomach goes on, and on, never seeming to let up. It’s like you’re drowning.

The fifth: acceptance; I can’t change this situation. Pure and simple. I live with it, or I choose not to live with it. Either way, it is what it is.

Right now, I’m at stage four: depression. I’ve been at stage four now for about six months. I can’t seem to move past it. I lost myself when I was returned home. In the beginning, I was determined, I did everything possible to try and resolve the situation. I made calls, begged gang members, bribed people for information, and did everything in my power, at that point, to save him. Then I got angry—blinding rage filled me day and night, and I couldn’t move on, I couldn’t stop blaming myself, and everyone else for what happened. Then came the bargaining, I tried everything to make myself feel better, to ease the pain inside. I begged, I pleaded, offered to lay down my life to ensure someone helped me, but no one did.

Nobody knew how, that’s the brutal and honest truth.

Now, depression. I’ve lived with depression before, so it’s nothing foreign to me. Oddly, I’m dealing with it better than the previous three emotions. In fact, I’m dealing with this stage quite well. I was sure when I got back that I’d crumble and fall back into my old ways, and, for a while, I did ... until Cody. He changed my life, he made the sun begin to shine again. He gave me a reason to live. He gave me a reason to push myself from my bed each day and put one foot in front of the other. He gave me a reason to breathe. He became my everything, and I would fight to make sure nothing ever happened to him.

Cody is my son.

I didn’t know I was pregnant when I first returned. In fact, I didn’t know for three months. It wasn’t until I snapped out of my grief and realized it had been a while since I’d had a period. When I did the test, I sat staring at the two pink lines for over three hours. I was numb, I felt nothing. The usual ‘how did this happen?’ or ‘how will I break the news to him?’ didn’t pass through my mind. I had no one to break the news to. I had no emotions. I couldn’t think about anything except the tiny lines in front of me.

The two lines that would change my entire world.

Ava and Jenny were my rocks through my pregnancy. They took me to my appointments, fed me well, made sure I took my vitamins, and held me when I let everything shut down because I just couldn’t take it any longer. When labor came around, they were both by my side as I welcomed Cody into the world. Cody became my sunshine. He’s gorgeous and a spitting image of Jagger. His eyes are that beautiful light blue, and his hair is dark and thick. He has my lighter skin, and he is the happiest little soul I’ve ever met.

During my pregnancy, I couldn’t cope living where I was, so we packed up everything and moved to the beach. To the ocean. To a place where I’d attempt to find myself again. I really tried, I chased down everything I could to get Jagger back, but it was of no use to me. The gang wouldn’t support me; instead, they supported their bosses words. Their loyalty won out, and I was on my own with no other choice but to do as Jagger asked—run away and forget about him. I’d never forget about him, but I also knew there was no other option.

Right then, I needed to be what my son needs.

Ava and Angel had a huge falling out right before we left, because she wanted him to come with her, but he refused. He chose his gang over his girl, and it broke her heart. Not that I could blame her, but I understood Angel wasn’t going to leave at a time like this. He couldn’t just pack up and run. I told Ava to stay, but her mind was made up and she’s more stubborn than anyone I know when she has decided something.
After the shock of finding out about Jagger’s wife, Willow runs. Needing time and space to fix her broken heart. Jagger, the man she has learned to both love and hate, has a choice to make…her or his wife. His wife. Even those words feel wrong. Forbidden. When she returns, Willow knows she will be forced to face the pain she ran from. Love is not strong enough to prevail. Loyalty is Jagger’s middle name, and her biggest fear is that his wife will take his heart once more. Battling this, she’s unaware that there is still danger lurking around every corner, and eventually, it’s going to find her again. Willow is about to find out that everything she thought she believed in…was wrong.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

Darkness in its finest form is still so much better than pain. If you asked me two months ago, I would say I choose darkness over pain. I’d lay my life down and allow myself to be swallowed up in darkness before I ever gave my heart over to pain again. It’s a choice, really, isn’t it? People know what they can live with and what they can live without. I know what I can live with, and I certainly know what I can’t live without.

I shouldn’t say him, I know that.

He’s not everything.

But to me—inside my broken, pitiful heart—he is.

He’s the only thing that has breathed any sort of life into my dead soul and now ... he’s gone.

He’s gone because he made a choice.

Her.

His wife.

It doesn’t matter how many times I say those two words in my mind, they’re not sinking in. No, they’re nothing but a blur.

A wife.

He’s married.

Jagger, the man I’ve fallen completely in love with, is married.

And she’s beautiful, the kind of beautiful I’ll never be.

Everything we’ve shared feels like a lie.

Everything I am feels broken.

So, I did the only thing I knew how to do.

I ran.

I ran as far away as I could, unable to face the pain, the betrayal.

But I know this much is true ...

I can’t hide forever.

Soon, I’ll have to face him again.

Soon, I’ll have to accept my new reality, without him in it.

1

“Have you been here long?”

I lift my sunglasses and sit them on top of my head and stare up at the tanned, gorgeous man looking down at me. He’s wearing nothing but a pair of wet shorts that are grabbing his crotch in a way that tells everyone here he’s packing well. His dark hair is slicked back, and he’s flashing me the whitest teeth I’ve ever seen.

“Fourth day,” I murmur, not in the mood for company.

Let alone company that comes in the form of a player.

I’m in Italy, in a town I can’t pronounce the name of, lying on the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen in my life, and wondering what the hell it is I’m going to do with myself when this little vacation of mine ends. I’ve had way too much alcohol in the last few days and I’ve barely eaten, which isn’t a good combination.

The worst part? I didn’t tell anyone where I was going.

I packed a bag and left, telling Ava I was going away for a while and that I would be safe.

I hugged Jenny as she begged me to stay.

But I didn’t see Jagger again. When I got home, he was gone. Him and his perfect wife? Gone. Not a call. Nothing. He left and didn’t even try to reach out to me. I don’t know if that hurts more than the fact that he’s married, or that his wife came back from the dead to be with him. Either way, he hasn’t reached out to me, and that breaks my heart.

“You’re American,” the Italian stallion grins, sitting on the sun lounge beside me.

“I didn’t invite you to join me,” I mutter, taking another sip of the fruity cocktail in my hand.

“Let me guess,” he says, leaning forward and placing his elbows on his knees, “you’re here because you’re heartbroken and you’re trying to escape?”

I glare at him.

His grin gets bigger. “All the American women are here for the same reason. What is it about my country that brings you here to mend your broken heart?”

“Oh, your country?” I say, raising my brows. “Sorry, sir, I didn’t realize I was speaking to a ruler.”

His grin widens. “I like you. What’s your name?”

“Willow,” I huff, staring at my glass and realizing I’m out. Again.

“My name is Luca. I’ll get you another drink if you save this seat for me.”

“I’m not interested in some whirlwind romance, Luca. Don’t get ideas.”

He laughs. “Then I’ll just be an ear for you to cry to, and a shoulder for you to lean on.”

God, he’s good. I’ll give him that.

He stands and disappears to the bar at the hotel I’m staying at, which is sitting right on the beach. How he knows I’m staying there, I don’t know, but I’m not complaining.
Nobody is here, nobody except me and my mother. The silence is deafening as the priest murmurs a few incoherent words. Rain drops splatter on my father’s faded-brown casket, the only one we could afford. It would have been nicer—could have been nicer—if my mother hadn’t used all our savings to fuel her drug habit.

Death has a feeling. An empty, soul-crushing feeling. Even when you say your final goodbyes, your very being is dragged down into the dirt with your loved one. My father, he was the only good thing I had left. Now it’s just her and me. She doesn’t love me. Perhaps once she did, but, for right now, her only care in this bitter world is when she can get her next hit. He fought for us. He fought for me.

“Get up off the ground, Willow,” comes her scolding voice as she reaches down, her bony fingers curling around my arm as she hauls me on to my feet.

She still speaks to me as if I’m a small child. Like the world hasn’t crushed me because of her sins. I might not be old enough to escape her clutches, but my mind far outweighs others of my age.

She still acts as though I don’t understand.

“Don’t touch me,” I murmur, staring as the casket slowly lowers into the ground.

The creaking sounds from the machine doing all the work only make the entire situation more eerie. I cross my arms and stare down, watching as the only good thing in my life gets lowered into the ground. I’ll never be able to talk to him again, never be able to hear his voice or feel his presence. He’s gone, and he left me when I needed him the most. For that, I hate him.

“Do not scold me at your father’s funeral,” she hisses, leaning in close. “I’ve lost everything because of you.”

Because of me.

Because. Of. Me.

She thinks this is my fault.

The problem with that is ... she’s wrong.

He was just going to get me some ice cream. He hugged me, kissed me, told me he loved me, and then disappeared.

He never came home.

There was an accident—his car went right off the side of the road, down a large ditch, and then was thrown over a cliff.

It’s my fault, according to her, because I wanted the ice cream.

If she wasn’t passed out in her room, she could have gotten it for me.

“The only thing you’ve lost, Mother,” I whisper, shivering as the cold feels like it goes down to my very bones, “is the ability to live.”

She stares at me and then shakes her head. “I can’t do this anymore, not with you. You need to go somewhere else. Without him ...”

Without him, she has no money.

That means she has no drugs.

That means she has to find a way to get money, and she’s not going to spend a single cent of that on me.

I’m not scared; no, I no longer care if I’m with her or I’m not.

He took a piece of me when he left me.

There is nothing more for her to break.

1

Flashing lights flicker as bodies move across the dance floor. Laughter and the sounds of glasses clinking can be heard as we shimmy through the sea of bodies. It’s a vibe, and only the kind of vibe you get from the most elite of clubs. This one, newly opened, is the best of the best, and people have flocked for miles to get in. Luckily for us, my best friend Ava knows people and managed to secure us a way in tonight.

I’m grateful.

It’s incredible.

“This place is bustling,” I yell to Ava as we shove through the crowds of people trying to find a space to settle in.

“I know. It’s pretty cool, right? Mark told me this is the place to be.”

I nod my head. “It’s impressive, your boss knows his stuff.”

I glance around as we move closer and closer to the bar; it’s something else entirely, with the flashing neon lights, blue and purple, and the crystal-clear glass chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.

We manage to make it to the bar and find ourselves a gap big enough to try our hand at getting a drink. Ava turns to me, a smile on her face. “Club life, eh?”

I laugh, nodding. “Yeah. It’s something else.”

Ava grins and tosses her long, blond hair over her shoulder, looking around. “There are some fine men in here tonight.”

I glance around. The girl is right, there most certainly are. I could use a night out with one of these hotties.

“I say we make a bet,” Ava yells over the blaring music.

I raise my brows. “Oh?”
