Cassie has finally grown up, and Alex is on his way back to Cali from college to celebrate with his girl. He’s surprised when he gets there to realize that she’s been hiding things from him during their daily phone calls. He whisks her away to the island where they first professed their love for each other while back on the mainland; Mandy’s been wreaking havoc from her jail cell. Now the guys are scrambling to come up with ways to deal with her, never suspecting that help will come from somewhere unexpected.

Books in Series:

Eden High Series by Jordan Silver

Books by Author:

Jordan Silver

Alex

My phone beeped, alerting me to an incoming text, just the sound I was waiting for, and I took it out and looked at it. The smile that’s always there at about this time every day spread across my face. “Hi, baby!” I rubbed my finger over her face on the screen before hitting her number in contacts.

I have her texting me every evening as soon as she gets in the house from school, then I call her back if I’m not too busy just to hear her voice. I don’t stay long, don’t tempt myself past what I can endure even though I’d stay on the phone with her all day if I could.

We don’t exchange risqué pictures, like any normal teen couple, or discuss anything that anyone might find suspect. I keep everything above board and as streamlined as it can get because I’m walking a thin line here. But that shit’s about to end soon, and I can hardly contain the excitement.

It’s been hard as hell surrounded by all this love and being the only one not attached to someone who looks at me the way Sian looks at Jace or the way Belle does Jared, and then, of course, there’s Track and Shane and their wives.

I try to look at their relationships more as something I have to look forward to than something to be envious of, but it’s not always easy. Sometimes the loneliness can drag on for damn near ever, and I start climbing the walls.

But things are about to change; she’s finally reaching that age where I don’t have to walk on eggshells, don’t have to hold back what I feel for her and she me. We’ve both had to deal with the strain of keeping ourselves in check while our friends moved on and got married, Jace and Sian even having kids.

Now the closer we get to that point, the more impatient I find myself becoming. Before her, before I knew that I wanted her, this situation, I find myself in now would’ve been ideal. I’d have been playing the field on a campus filled with beautiful women with no holds barred, living in a luxury complex with all the necessities anyone could possibly need at my fingertips.

But I went and fell in love with someone that I couldn’t have. The funny thing is until my best friends started getting hitched as teenagers, I might’ve walked away completely, might’ve convinced myself that it was okay to continue living life, as usual, smashing anything that came my way.

It’s easy to do that where we come from and being who we are, and the truth is, I always expected my college days to be like that, nothing but parties and bedding as many women as would allow me to have them.

I never in a million years would’ve thought that I’d be the guy I am today, that’s for sure, the guy who waits around for that one call to brighten up my day. Who never sees anyone else, even if they’re standing right in front of my face. Not only that, I don’t even have the urge to stray.

It never once entered my mind to cheat on her and what we have, what we’re starting to build together and not because I know my boys would ream me a new one either, but because I genuinely deep down inside, cherish just the thought of what we will one day share together, her and I.

She answered on the first ring as usual, and I got to hear about her day. I listened to her every word, taking it all in. I’m not just listening to her words, though, but to the tone in her voice. My little innocent hasn’t yet learned how to hide her true feelings from me, and I hope she never does.

It’s one of the best things about finding each other so young, we’re growing together, and I’m getting to know the real her before she learns how to fabricate shit. Today she sounded like her bright, beautiful self, so I was able to relax.

Since I’d left for school, leaving her back in my hometown, not being able to see her every day except on Facetime, I’ve had lots of moments where I worried about her and let’s not get started on missing her. I never knew that missing someone could make you feel like you’d lost a limb.

Before, even though I kept my distance because she was so young, at least I got to see her, got to keep tabs on how she was doing. But now that I’m here, so far away, I literally feel like a very vital part of myself is missing.

So these phone calls and the times we spend staring at each other through a screen are now the highlights of my life. And since Mandy’s been put away, my baby had lost that look of doom from her face and sounded more like the girl she was when I first noticed her.

By

Jordan Silver

Chapter 1

CARTER

Oh hell, what is she doing here? I’m not sure if I should hang around to find out, or get the hell out of here.

My gut burned with the implications, but one wrong move now could prove disastrous if I were wrong.

How had my life come to this? How had I fucked things up so royally? My feet felt leaden as I moved through the quiet stillness of the night. I heard a rustling sound coming from my left somewhere and hurried my steps.

Hindsight is a son of a bitch; too little too late. I thought I could control the situation though, I mean she was just a kid after all. I’m a grown man, a man who suffered a great loss and went through a rough patch true, but I’ve always been sensible.

I’ve never given in to the wiles of Hollywood, not until now anyway. The debauchery that was kept well hidden: the bed hopping and orgies that would make Caligula’s look like a garden-variety tea party. I’d kept myself well above it all.

But then something happened, something that I had no control over. I never knew the loss of a child could hit a man this hard, never knew I was weak enough to make the choices I’d made since.

All I wanted was to feel again, not just alive, but anything, anything to erase the numbness that had set in and tainted everything around me. I just wanted it not to be so fucking hard anymore.

I’m sure everyone would say that’s no excuse, but what do they know? A man loses a child it’s like nothing to the world. The mother gets all the sympathy, while the dad gets a few pats on the shoulder along with an absent there-there, and that’s supposed to be enough.

No one saw me bleeding; no one saw how my world had been turned upside down; how much I suffered, and now this, the icing on the cake.

Leave it to me to pick a sociopath my first time swimming in the adultery pool. I thought it would be so easy. Steal a little warmth and tenderness for myself, throw her a few baubles here and there; can’t be selfish after all. And that was supposed to be good enough, until I exorcised the demons that plagued me; then I could go back to normal.

But then things changed. The more I had the more I wanted, and she, she was like a drug. I didn’t know young girls even knew half the things she did. She had made me feel again that’s for sure.

For the first time in what felt like forever, I actually felt alive again, at the top of my game. The sex was off the charts good as the young people would say, and she knew all the right buttons to push. Even now with all that had happened, the memory of some of what we had shared had the power to weaken me.

I should’ve known though, what she really was. I’d seen that streak in her once or twice before, though she was very careful to keep it hidden. But that too had added to her appeal. My wife had become almost docile and dormant in the last few months.

The warmth and gaiety of our life together had faded, and there didn’t seem to be any way to get it back. But maybe I had gone too far. You think Carter? I berated myself as I came back to reality.

I looked over my shoulder as I hustled away from there, begging and praying that I hadn’t been found out. That would just make what I’d just done all for nothing. I’d lose my family, my career, everything…

It’s funny how everything that seemed so dismal, so poignant here lately, has now become rather significant at this moment in time. Why couldn’t I have remembered these things months ago, before I started this mess? Before I embarked on this fool’s mission.

Like the first time I saw my wife, that feeling that came over me; how could I have forgotten that? And my daughter, the look in her eyes lately. I looked back over my shoulder, but even now I played the coward.

I rushed away from the place of my demise and headed to my car, which had been left hidden in a secluded place. Even now, my only hope was that it had not been seen. I would hate for my mistake to be found out now, after…but what was she doing here? She couldn’t possibly know.

There were a million other reasons for her being here. I was very careful these last few months while I was playing the fool, so there was no reason to suspect that my secret had been discovered.

The bitter taste of guilt was heavy in my lungs as I turned the key and looked back one last time before pulling away.

I saw headlights in the rearview just as I was turning the corner. Whew, close call. Chances are, if I had stayed there a minute longer, I would’ve been found out.

I couldn’t rest easy though, not until I found out what she was doing here and what she knew if anything. There was still a chance that it was all innocent. After all, the girls went to the same school, though Cass was younger, both in years and personality.

JACE

“What the fuck was that?”

“That was a gunshot.”

“What the fuck?” I turned around to see my dad behind me.

“We need to get out of here son, because whatever that was can’t be good.”

“What’re you doing here?”

“I followed you of course. You didn’t really think you were fooling me all those times you snuck out of the house did you? What kind of dad would I be if that were true?”

He smirked as he herded me out of the shadows. “You have eyes on me still?”

“What do you think?”

“Dad…”

“Before you say anything, it’s nothing intrusive son. I know you’re a grown up now, so I do things accordingly. But I have to keep you safe, not only for your sake or mine, but for your mother’s as well. Have you any idea what it would do to her if something was to happen to you?”
Sian Claiborne is not a happy camper. Just when she was getting into the groove of high school hijinks, her parents decide to pick up stakes. Now the popular cheerleader is off to the ritz and glamor of the Hollywood Hills, where her new school is home to the offspring of Hollywood's elite.
Determined to hold her own, she befriends one of the school's outcast on her first day, thus drawing a line in the sand between her and the ever-popular 'Mean Girls'. Little does she care, until she claps eyes on Jace Saunders and almost loses her pom-poms.
Of course the head cheerleader already has her eyes among other things set on Jace and lets Sian know in no uncertain terms that he's off limits. What's a girl to do when the first guy to make her heart go pitter-patter seems to already be taken?

SIAN

New town: new school, new attitude? Nah, well maybe for necessity’s sake; I wouldn’t have my girls there after all, so I might have to tone my shit down in the beginning, until I get the lay of the land.

Dad had disrupted my life without a by your leave. He’d gotten a promotion and a fat ass raise. Not like he wasn’t raking in the dough before, but apparently this new position came with a whole slew of other benefits that went right over my head.

Parents shouldn’t be allowed to muck up their kids’ existence out of the blue like this, but what the hell?

My brother the jock, was chomping at the bit. This new school supposedly had a better football program and better standing in the Nationals, yadda, yadda, yadda, like I gave a frack.

All I know is that my final year and a half in high school was not supposed to be like this.

I was just getting into the groove of things. Mom and dad had just lifted the virgin seal, aka I was allowed to date and wham.

Right when I was going over my choices, they spring this crap on me. At least we weren’t moving to a rinky-dink nowhere town, but an upscale neighborhood outside of Hollywood.

Mom was all excited to be rubbing elbows with movie stars and Uber rich types. I was more worried about dealing with stuck up starlet wanna-be’s and their bullshit.

I’m no slouch in the looks department; any sixteen-year old chick who wasn’t aware of her attributes in this day and age was living under a big ass rock in Nowheres Ville.

I’m not one of them. I have a mirror or two to attest to the fact that I can hold my own with anything this town has to offer. And I’ve got the ‘tude to back that shit up.

Still, it was a bit of a bummer to have to pull up stakes and start all over again.

Adults are the pits, just saying. They seem to think that it’s pretty okay to call all the shots and drag their poor underlings all over hell and back on a whim. Okay that was a bit of an exaggeration, but who can blame me?

“Sian hon are you still mad at your old man?” Dad kissed the top of my head, which he knows is my weakness.

I’m ever a daddy’s girl, which makes staying mad at him for any particular length of time a trial, but I was sure gonna give it my best shot.

“Yes and it’s gonna cost ya pops.” I schooled my face into the sternest expression I could muster before looking up at him as he towered over me.

Dad was what my friends had dubbed a hottie, gross. At thirty-six he was well built, from his obsessive use of the home gym no doubt, and his coal black hair was still full and boyishly charming as mom likes to say.

He has my eyes or I have his I should say, so of course they’re gorgeous, a nice deep navy blue. I just wish he’d have given me some of his height too.

When I was little I use to love riding high on his shoulders or when he would pick me up and twirl me around until my tummy hurt from laughter.

My family isn’t afraid of showing love and affection for each other, so though I might’ve outgrown the shoulder rides, my dad and I still find ways to share our closeness. It’s the same with my brother and sister as well, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now, rolling up his sleeves, he took the chair across from me at the table, where I was sorting out my photo stream. I don’t even remember taking half these pictures.

“Okay doll face what’s it gonna cost me?”

“Let me see, hmm…what is the disruption of my life worth?” I pretended to ponder the question as he grinned at me.

This was one of our games that go back to my early childhood. One of those things that I knew would follow me into my adult life.

As much trouble and sass as I’ve been giving him for the past month or so, when the reality that this was really happening had finally set in, I really do love the old goof.

“A new car.” I held back my laughter as he glared at me.

“You just got a new car not six months ago try another one.”

“Nope, that’s the price you pay, I’ve decided I no longer like the beamer, I want something a little more exotic.”

“Oh yeah, and what might that be?” He played along giving me the gimlet eye because I’m a first class negotiator.

I have in the past gotten afore denied goodies by using my stellar skills on the parent unit. I’m so good that both my siblings usually came to me to help them out from time to time.

I was really having fun with him now though. I love my little red roadster, and though I’m sure that the kids where we were headed would have even flashier rides, I wasn’t interested in the least. I just wanted to yank his chain a bit.

“How about a Phantom? I’m sure that would soothe my aching heart.”

“I’ll tell you what Si, in a few years and by few a mean twenty, why don’t you ask your husband, poor soul whoever he is to buy you that car?”

“Don’t ask if you don’t mean it dad, that’s just mean.”

“Go finish packing brat we leave early in the morning and the movers will be here before the crack of dawn.”

“I’m all set dad just a few more odds and ends, I’ll be ready don’t worry. Why don’t you go harass your other off spring?”

“Nice, very nice way to talk to your old man, especially after he’s bought you something nice.” My eyes lit up as I searched him for the loot. I didn’t see a bag or anything and thought he was pulling one over on me again, as he was wont to do on occasion.
