My life turned upside down when I uncovered my bosses’ criminal activities and needed protection. Instead of the type of safehouse I expected. I was sent to a historic townhouse to live with Dom, a scarred former assassin who rarely talks and wishes I wasn't there. The only upside, he’s a hot AF silver fox.

He’s also straight and old enough to be my father, but since I don’t have anything else to do while I wait to testify, I might as well see if I can melt the ice he’s encased himself in. I long to find out how much heat lies underneath.

Dom has no end of secrets. I soon learn the woman who is out to get me is after him as well. With our lives on the line, and Dom not so straight after all, we both give into our need for comfort. Is there any chance Dom will open up to more, or will his heart remain closed off even if his body is mine?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

COREY

My world turned upside down because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It really couldn’t have been more wrong if I’d tried. I needed to consult with one of the senior partners in our law firm. His assistant was at lunch, and I didn’t realize he had a client in his office. I knocked, and I swear I heard him grunt, which was his way of communicating simple phrases like “come in”. I opened the door a crack and realized there was a tense discussion in progress. I should have backed away, but the phrases “affected drugs” and “get us all arrested” made me stay. We did contract law, not criminal.

What I overheard that day was pure evil, and now the people behind the criminal organization that involved our senior partners wanted me dead.

Now, I was on a call with a man whose name I didn’t know. He’d sent guards to protect me, and he was supposedly working on getting me to a safe house. The senior FBI agent who was working the case told me I could trust him, but I was skeptical.

I switched my phone to my other hand and wiped my sweaty palm on my pants as I paced my apartment. “I’m not going to be good on the witness stand. I’ll be too nervous to remember the right things to say.”

“You can handle it, you have to. The case rests on your testimony, so we’re counting on you,” the man on the phone said.

“Who’s we?”

A moment passed before he answered. “The people who are keeping you safe.”

“You still haven’t told me who you are.”

“It’s best you don’t know too much about us.” Ever since O’Conner the lead investigator working the case handed me her phone and told me to make arrangements for my protection with the man on the line, I’d been trying to figure out exactly who he was and what the hell was happening. The guards he’d sent to my apartment were intimidating as hell. I’d been afraid of them initially, but they were polite and efficient, and I was thankful to have them.

“Won’t you have to show yourself at the trial?” I asked.

“The FBI will handle the trial. We’re handling your security.” That was the type of non-answer I’d come to expect.

“So you’re not with the FBI?” This hadn’t been clear to me, and no one had answered my questions.

“No.”

I usually trusted easily. That’s how I’d missed that the senior partners at my firm were deeply involved in selling illegal prescription drugs, including ones cut with fentanyl. One of our new paralegals was an undercover FBI agent, but despite his presence, I’d been the one to get the evidence they needed. I prided myself on being optimistic and upbeat, but it was a little hard when a major criminal organization had me on their kill list and I had no idea who the people were who insisted on helping me. “Why can’t the FBI handle my protection?”

“They could, but we’re better, and we have an interest in the case. Trust me.”

How was I supposed to trust anyone anymore? “I don’t even know your name.”

“You can call me X.” Was that supposed to make me feel better? I wasn’t starring in an action film.

“I don’t want to die.”

“Then do what I say. I’m sending some men to pick you up in about an hour. They’ll take you to a safe house where you’ll stay until the trial.”

“I know how slowly the courts move. That will take months or”—Oh God—“years.”

X huffed. “I have some pull. I’m working on pushing this through quickly.”

Who was this man who could take over the duties of the FBI and speed up trial schedules? Someone fucking powerful who I shouldn’t piss off, obviously. “How will I know the men who arrive are sent by you?”

“Because I have people watching your home, and they’ll shoot anyone else who tries to get to you.”

That was to the point. “So no code word or anything?”

“What do you want them to say? ‘The eagle has landed’ or some shit?”

“Well, I mean….”

“Fine. The code word is ‘umbrella’.”

I glanced outside. The sun shone weakly through the haze of clouds. There was no sign of rain or snow, just continued cold. No reason for anyone to have an umbrella. “I guess that will do.” Shit, what was I doing questioning this man’s decision? “Who is in charge of the safe house?”

“His name is Dom.”

“That’s it? No last name like Adele or Cher?”

X sighed. “Dominic Marchesi, and just so you’re aware, Dom isn’t much of a talker. He’s more of a recluse. He’s not going to baby you or anything, but he will keep you safe.”

“I don’t need to be babied, I just—”

X had already hung up.

How bad was my future bodyguard if the scary man on the phone felt the need to warn me about him? Were they sending me to a fucking demon or what? Did I have a choice? I could pretend I did, but realistically, no. I didn’t have the ability to defend myself. I’d never shot a gun in my life, and I wasn’t even coordinated enough to play pickleball with my colleagues. How the hell was I going to escape from some crime syndicate?
Vito's story, Book 2 in the Marchesi Loan Sharks series:

Who knew a hockey game could change your life?

The first time I saw Zeke on the ice, I knew he was mine.

My brother said I was stalking Zeke, but I like to think of it as showing my appreciation. I pretended it was just a game, something to keep me occupied since my family didn't really need me.

The way Zeke searched the stands for me when he thought I wasn’t watching let me know he wanted me too, even if he wasn’t ready to admit it. One day he'd give in. That was inevitable.

He comes to me, needing a loan. The year he spent in Vegas wasn't kind to him, and he's in deep debt. He doesn't like the terms I offer and tries to walk away.

I'll never let that happen. He's in danger, and no one is going to hurt him. Not on my watch.

I knew I could make him surrender to me, but the more time I spend with him, the more I find myself revealing things I've never told anyone. Money problems I can easily fix, and I make a damn good bodyguard, but is it possible we might heal each other? Is it possible for two wounded men to fall in love?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

PROLOGUE

VITO

Iwished like hell I was in Las Vegas for a vacation, but I’d been sent to collect intel for the family business. I’d get the work done, but there was no reason I couldn’t have some fun while I was there.

I’d lucked into tickets for the Vegas Wildcats home game. A loud, fierce hockey game was just what I needed after a long day of meeting with close-lipped assholes who didn’t seem to understand the hell the Marchesis could rain down on them if they failed to meet our terms.

I was thrilled when I realized the seats were in the center section against the glass. I loved being right in the action. As the teams warmed up, I couldn’t take my eyes off Vegas’s No. 14, Zeke Balogh, one of the league’s growing number of out and proud gay players. He looked right up at me as he stretched on the ice, opening his legs wide and pulsing his ass. I held his gaze for several seconds. He was fucking mesmerizing. The other players looked just as obscene as they worked their hips open, but something about the way Balogh moved made my whole body feel electrified. He was hot as hell, and I wished I could see more than his face and the long hair flowing down his back.

He turned away as he rolled to his stomach and brought a knee out to the side, stretching his groin. I’d like to be right behind him. I could help him stretch and then put that ass to good use.

Once he was on his feet again, I kept my eyes on him. How was his skating hotter than any other players’? I couldn’t stop watching him. It was like he’d put a spell on me.

When the warm-up time ended, I immediately pulled out my phone and looked up everything I could find on Balogh. This was his first year in the NHL. I’d be more than happy to give him some tips about fan service.

He was twenty-two, so old enough to know what he was doing, and if the flexibility he’d just showed was any indication, he’d be damn good at whatever he wanted to try, and I’d be happy to try just about anything with him. Once I read his basic stats, I looked further into articles about him. Apparently, since he’d been in Vegas, he’d gained a reputation for running through men as fast as he skated. Had the look he’d given me been as meaningful as I’d wanted it to be?

I was going to find out.

A few texts to the friend who’d gotten me the ticket was all it took to find out where the team usually hung out after a game. I was going to track down Balogh and see just how slutty he could be.

The bar was packed but it didn’t take me long to find him. I hung back, watching Balogh talk to his teammates and a group of men and women who were clustered around them. I waited for a chance to talk to him alone. I didn’t mind since the extra time gave me a chance to look at him. Without his helmet, his dark brown hair was even more stunning. I imagined myself taking hold of it and pulling his head back, exposing his throat for me to bite. He was wearing a tight black Henley that showed off the defined muscles in his chest and arms. His jeans were also tight, clinging to his plump ass. I wanted to squeeze those cheeks and hear him moan.

Eventually he headed toward the bar, and I followed him. I gave a look to the guy standing next to him, the same look I gave to men who owed my family and hadn’t paid up. He took off, and I moved in beside Balogh.

“You looked good out there on the ice today,” I said after he’d placed his order.

“Thanks.” He accepted his drink and finally turned to face me.

His eyes widened when they met mine.

“I saw you watching me from the ice.”

His tongue darted out to wet his lips. “I….”

“Don’t deny it.”

He took a step back from the bar. I loved that I’d unnerved him. He was so sure of himself when he played. I liked seeing him off balance now. Was he afraid of me? I was damn good at scaring people. That was my job.

As he moved back, I moved toward him until we were standing so close it was all I could do not to reach for him.

“I should get back to the team,” he said.

I shook my head. “Not yet. I’m curious about something.”

He glanced toward his friends then back to me. “What?”

“How real is your reputation?”

Anger flashed in his eyes. “I enjoy men. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

“No, there’s nothing wrong with it, but I wonder…do you get bored with all those little twinks who pursue you? Would you like to enjoy someone older, someone who could match the aggression you show on the ice? A man who could make you do whatever he says?”
Liam
I was drowning in debt and my sister needed help, so I made a terrible choice. I borrowed money from the infamous Marchesi family, knowing I had no way to pay them back.
Did I think I could evade them?
Did I think I’d win the lottery?
No, I didn’t think at all. I just acted.
Now, a killer is at my door, a man known for his ruthlessness, his persistence, and the way he can bring a man to his knees – for business or pleasure.
I’ve got to find a way to pay him back, and the only thing I own free and clear is my body.

Valentino
My job is extracting money from delinquent clients. If they can’t pay with cash, they pay with pain.
The next client on my list is Liam, but when I show up at his house ready to take his money or break him, I find a desperate young man who intrigues me so much I consider other options.
When he offers himself as payment, I long to torment him in ways we’ll both enjoy, but clients are off limits, and only fools break Marchesi family rules.
I might just let him make a fool of me.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

Two Years Ago

Liam

I squeezed my sister’s hand as I watched tears run down her cheek. We’d both done more than our fair share of crying since the accident, but seeing her heart break when we lost our father nearly did me in.

I shifted position in the hard plastic chair, awkwardly putting my arm around her. My other arm was stabilized with a sling as I waited impatiently for my collarbone to heal. Every movement I made was painful, but Ava needed comfort. That was all that mattered.

A doctor stepped through the swinging doors, and I tensed before I realized he was not the surgeon attending to our mother. I’d lost count of how many times Ava and I had sat here waiting for news. There’d been so many surgeries, so many attempts to save our parents. My mother had yet to regain consciousness, and now the doctors were once again trying to stop internal bleeding. I tried to be hopeful, but I knew the chances we would get good news—like the smiling family sitting across from us—were slim to none.

Ava laid her head on my good shoulder and wiped away her tears. “What are we going to do? If mom recovers, how will we ever pay for all the care she needs? It’s going to cost thousands, hundreds of thousands maybe, and my fall tuition payment is due next week.”

I fought the urge to curl into a ball as the few memories I had of the accident flashed in my mind: the car barreling toward us, trying to accelerate to get out of the way, my mom screaming.

I had no idea where we’d get that kind of money. I’d been at my current construction job for over a year, and I made decent money, but even if I could heal fast enough to keep the job, I didn’t know how we would come up with money for medical bills and Ava’s tuition. All I knew was that I would find a way for her to finish school.

“We’ll figure it out. My boss has been great about working with me so far. He knows as soon as I’m cleared by the doctors, I’ll be back on the job.” My head was pounding, but maybe I could fake it well enough for the doctors to believe I wasn’t still having symptoms from the concussion. I could at least do some office work until my collarbone healed.

Ava frowned. “I should get a job too. Without a scholarship—”

“No. We’re going to work it out. It’ll be okay. My phone buzzed, and I reached into my pocket and pulled it out.

“Who is it?” Ava asked.

It was my boss. “It’s Mr. Kemp. I better take it.”

“What do you think he wants?”

“Probably just checking on me. I’ll be right back, okay?” I stepped away as I answered, moving far enough down the hall that Ava wouldn’t hear my conversation.

“How are you feeling?” Mr. Kemp asked.

“Better every day.” I forced myself to sound upbeat.

“That’s good. Look, we just signed a contract on a new project. It’s a big one. Any chance you’ll be back with us by the end of the week?”

Not with two working arms. “I don’t think I can be ready that soon. My mom is in surgery right now, and my collarbone is still healing. I might be ready for some paperwork.”

“I really need you on the crew for the new job.”

“Maybe in two weeks I can be there.”

Mr. Kemp sighed. “I’m really sorry, Liam. I’ve tried to wait, but I’m going to have to replace you. We can’t wait to get the new job started.”

I leaned back against the wall as my knees buckled. The edges of my vision started to go dark. I closed my eyes and pressed my hand against the wall, trying to ground myself. Was this really happening? What were we going do if I didn’t have a job? How was I going to find one now while I was injured and needing to spend as much time as I could with my mom and my sister?

“I hope your mom’s surgery goes well,” Mr. Kemp said.

I swallowed, then forced out some words. “Thank you.”

“Take care of yourself.” He ended the call.

I stood there, holding the phone to my face. I felt numb. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to walk, but I needed to get back to Ava. What the hell was I going to tell her? Not the truth, that was for sure.

Despite my dizziness and blurry vision, I managed to make my way back to Ava.

“What’s wrong?” she asked.

“Nothing.” I fought to school my face. “I just…I still get a little dizzy when I walk around.”

“You should go lie down.”

“No, I’m fine. I want to stay here with you.”

“What did Mr. Kemp have to say?”

“Like I thought, he just wanted to check on me.” I hated lying to her, but I’d hate scaring her even more.
