An Alpha shifter confidently strolling through his smooth, easy life meets his unexpected mate—an Alpha whose journey has been wholly different and who has long since given up on hopes and fairy tales. Two different backgrounds. Two different views on power. One perfect pairing.

Purple Sky Alpha Brian Berger has led a life blessed with familial love, good friends, and success. He is certain of his place in the world and confident in his destiny to be a powerful Alpha leading a strong pack. The only thing missing is the sweet, obedient mate he’s awaiting.

Brian’s expectations are upended when he meets Keith Iredell. He’s damaged, he’s strong-willed, he’s chaotic, and he’s an Alpha. Keith is the opposite of what Brian thought he wanted, but he is exactly who Brian needs

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

“It’s going well, really,” Brian Berger said. He was lying on his bed in the middle of the day, hair disheveled from dragging his fingers through the curls, forearm draped over his closed eyes, and cell phone on his chest, all but whining to his oldest friend who was also his former pack’s Alpha. He didn’t need to see Jobe Root’s face to know he likely hadn’t believed a word he’d said.

“Brian?” As usual, Jobe’s voice was even, his tone calm, and he asked a lot without using many words.

“I mean it.” He cleared his throat. “All things considered.”

“Do you want to talk about those things?”

“Not really, no.” Except wasn’t that why he had called Jobe?

“I’m here when you do.”

“I’m a little lonely,” he admitted.

“You hoped you’d move to your new pack and meet your mate. It’s understandable that you’re disappointed, especially after everything that happened with Ricky Marx.”

Ricky was a Psi Omega, a male omega who could birth children. He was also sweet and meek. Ricky fit the criteria of Brian’s ideal mate, so Brian had been disappointed that he was fated for someone else. Especially when Brian found that someone else lacking.

“That was a cluster fuck,” Brian agreed. “But Ricky and his parents insist that Morgan Peters is a great Alpha and a caring mate and they’re happy in Golden Valley now.”

Jobe chuckled, predictably reading his tone. “You don’t believe them?”

“If I believed them, I wouldn’t have attacked Morgan when he came here looking for Ricky.”

“Everyone makes mistakes.”

He grunted, not sure he had been wrong and unwilling to give any more mental space to that possibility.

“Mother Nature will bless you with a mate who’s perfect for you.”

“I’m thirty-three years old. She needs to hurry it along.”

“Sick of playing the field?” Jobe asked knowingly.

“Done playing the field,” Brian confirmed. “I’ve lost all appetite for it.”

“Maybe that means it’s time.”

If he hadn’t grown up with Jobe, he wouldn’t know what he meant because the man often spoke in concepts more than words. But Brian’d had a lifetime to learn his good friend’s language, so he understood the implication—the time for him to find his mate was near. “From your mouth to Mother Nature’s ears.”

“Is not meeting your mate yet what has you down?”

“Partly.” He sighed. “And I’m homesick.” He had spent his first thirty-two years in the established, flourishing, harmonious Red River pack, same as his parents, their parents, and every one of his relatives. Even though people born in Red River generally stayed in Red River, at some level Brian had always known that he’d have to leave because he couldn’t be the Alpha of that pack and his soul itched to lead. But knowing and experiencing were two different things.

“That’s expected,” Jobe said. “But I imagine it’s still a challenge.”

“It is. I miss the obvious big things like my parents and my sister and you. But it’s the more subtle things too. I miss the sense of community, the underlying joy in my packmates. I even miss the land in Red River.”

“Our packlands exude strong energy.”

“Sure, and I don’t expect other packs to have that much power, but it’s more than what’s beneath surface. The landscape here is dry, more dead than alive. Nothing thrives in this land.”

“That’s worrying,” Jobe said thoughtfully. “If the land in your pack doesn’t flourish, how can your shifters?” Jobe was the most spiritual person Brian had ever met, and while his words could sometimes come across as hokey, he was rarely wrong. “Maybe that’s why they lack joy.”

“That’s a good point.” Brian evaluated the connection Jobe had drawn. “Everyone here believes that Purple Sky was languishing because of the previous Alpha’s age and the succession gap. They have this idea that my being here will be enough to turn it all around, but as flattering as that sounds, it hasn’t struck me as completely accurate.”

“You’ve been the Purple Sky Alpha for almost half a year now. If you sense there’s more going on, then there probably is. And if you’re feeling a shortcoming with your land, that may be a big part of it.”

He nodded to himself, thinking that over. The shortcoming was deeper than the land the pack sat on, but it was a start.

“What does your land need?”

“Water.” The answer was obvious to someone who had grown up in a pack bordered by a river enriched with nutrients.

“Water is the source of life,” Jobe agreed. “I know a fair bit about Purple Sky because it’s Wes’s home pack. Isn’t there a river abutting your land?”

“Sort of. The river’s just past the far end of the packlands. It’s not part of our property. The river and the land it flows through are owned by humans.”

“Can you buy it and integrate it into your packlands?”

Brian reflected on Purple Sky’s finances. They were nothing like the affluent Red River pack. “Unfortunately, no. We don’t have the resources to acquire the river and expand our property line that far.”
A generous Alpha with a tragic past and a young Omega with hopes for the future overcome mistakes to heal a pack and find happiness together. Life has thrown more than his fair share of challenges and losses at Alpha Morgan Peters. Despite his pain and disappointment, the shifter picks himself up and does right by his pack. As the years pass, Morgan establishes himself as a leader who is as kind as he is strong and Golden Valley prospers. But it isn't until an Omega shifter enters his life that Morgan sees hope for a future where he can be more than an Alpha.

When Psi Omega Ricky Marx goes to Golden Valley as a representative of his home pack, he is thrilled to find his mate—the beautiful, powerful Golden Valley Alpha. Unfortunately, their first meeting doesn't go well, and overwhelmed by his mistakes, Ricky sees no choice but to flee.

Morgan's past makes him struggle to absorb more loss. Ricky's youth makes him struggle to find his voice. But if these two shifters can overcome their challenges and come back together, they'll heal the Golden Valley pack and fulfill their destiny.

Zipper raised halfway, Morgan looked up and met Lillian’s worried gaze. “Of course, I’m coming back. Golden Valley is my home.”

“Well, yeah, but when you’re living with all those other packs, you’ll meet tons of new people. Maybe you’ll even visit a pack that needs an Alpha.” Teeth digging into her lower lip, she fiddled with the sheet pooled around her waist and shrugged. “Why would you bother coming back to Golden Valley when you know your brother’s set to lead the pack after your dad steps down?”

“Come on. You know me better than that.” He and Lillian had been friends for as long as he could remember and lovers for a few months. They weren’t mates, so the current arrangement wouldn’t have lasted even if he wasn’t leaving, but she knew him better than anyone. “I have no interest in leading a pack. None.” He finished zipping and buttoning his pants, pulled his shirt over his head, and then he stepped over to the bed and sat down. “I’m going to tour through other packs so I can learn skills that help Golden Valley.” And if he was lucky, he would meet his mate, bring her home, and they’d have a family. “It’s only five years and I’ll come home to visit during breaks.”

“Only five years.” Lillian rolled her eyes and then collapsed backward on the mattress. “That’s forever.”

“This dramatic side of you is new,” he said with a laugh. “I think I like it. And I won’t be traveling all that long when you consider how many packs I’ll get to live with. Plus, it’s an amazing opportunity.”

“I know. I know. It’s great for you.” She huffed and crossed her arms over her bare chest. “But I don't buy the not-wanting-to-be-pack-Alpha thing. Every Alpha wants to lead a pack. It’s like ingrained in you guys. You’re never coming back to Golden Valley.”

“Not every Alpha wants to lead a pack.”

She turned her head to the side and arched her eyebrows, her expression disbelieving.

“Seriously, Lil.” He chuckled as he reached for the blanket and shook it over her. “Why would I want to be a pack Alpha?”

“Uh, because you’d be the most powerful wolf in the pack. Everyone would listen to you and throw themselves at you and you’d get to make all the decisions and—”

“I’m already the third most powerful wolf in this pack after my father and my brother. That’s plenty powerful. And with everything I’ll be learning during my travels, I’ll be able to manage pack finances and businesses. That’s an important role full of decisions. And sleeping with random pack members until they find their mates is Jerold’s thing, not mine.” With as many pack members as his brother took to bed, it was a wonder he had time to do anything else. “I want a family and the most important part of that is having a mate.” Although shifters were usually blessed with a mate to share their lives, some people said the fates gave an Alpha wolf a mate only if he was powerful enough to care for his pack and his mate. His father told him that wasn’t true, but Morgan wasn’t one for taking chances, especially with something this important. If he wasn’t leading a pack, there would be no risk that he’d miss out on having a mate and a family.

“You could lead a pack and have a mate.” Lillian leaned up on her forearms. “You know that stuff about Alphas not having mates is an old wives’ tale. Your father has a mate and he’s pack Alpha.”

“Maybe my dad’s an exception. Most Alphas aren’t as powerful as him.”

Alexander Peters was strong, smart, and charismatic. The pack admired him and other Alphas envied him. He was the perfect leader. But he was also the man who had played catch with him and Jerold when they were kids, who still read bedtime stories to their little sister, and who danced with their mother in the kitchen. That was the part of his father’s life that Morgan had grown up wanting, and he had no desire to risk losing it just so he could be pack Alpha. “Lots of Alphas don’t have mates. Look at my brother.”

“Your brother’s only twenty-six. He could still find his mate.”

Morgan arched his eyebrows and coughed. His brother would make a solid pack leader. He oozed charisma, everyone loved him, and he had been trained since birth for the role. At his age, Jerold could have already taken the reins from their father, but he was still too busy having fun. And Jerold’s version of fun meant hunting with his buddies and fucking his way through seemingly every pack member who came of age. Taking over pack leadership would require Jerold to settle down some, but having a mate and children would put an end to his lifestyle entirely. Even without a pack to run, Morgan doubted his brother had the capacity to care for a mate, and he certainly didn’t have the desire.
Two Alpha shifters join together to lead their pack and build a family. Commitment, loyalty, and strength aren’t enough to make Wesley Stone’s birth pack accept an Alpha with a physical imperfection, even if it’s a meaningless mark. Putting the safety of his pack above his own wellbeing, Wesley trades himself for another Alpha and agrees to mate with a stranger in a mysterious, insular pack.

Alphas from Jobe Root’s family have led the Red River pack from the first day shifters walked the earth. Now the time has come for Jobe to fulfill his destiny, but to do that, he needs his mate by his side. Spiritual, easygoing Jobe reveres Mother Nature and trusts in fate, yet he can’t help being nervous about how his mate will react to his new life in Red River, his new life with Jobe.

Two Alphas with contrasting personalities, different upbringings, and divergent beliefs come together for the good of their packs. But to stay together, Wesley and Jobe must see beyond the surface and embrace every facet of themselves and their union.

Wesley Stone reached for the volume dial on the cracked dashboard and turned it to the right. Maybe if he could make the music loud enough, it’d drown out the voice in his head.

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

Time for what? There weren’t any other Alpha wolves in the Purple Sky pack, so everyone knew Wesley would eventually be leading them. What exactly were they waiting for?

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

Unfortunately, the sound in his head was louder than any rock song. He turned the knob again. He could concede that twenty-three was young to be a pack Alpha, but it wasn’t too young. And his uncle Paul was already sixty, well past the age when Alphas normally handed over the reins. It was time for him to transition leadership to Wesley.

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

He raised the volume and wished, not for the first time, that his old Civic had a better sound system. Wesley had spent three hours a day in that car during the four years he had driven back and forth to the nearest college. Getting a degree had been his uncle’s idea. He had said it would give Wesley extra credibility, but very few people in their small pack went to college, so they weren’t impressed with Wesley’s hard work and newfound knowledge about environmental engineering.

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

Memories piled up of those long days: waking up early, driving away from his pack and the woods into a concrete jungle, attending classes in huge buildings, holing up by himself in the musty library, and then driving home and falling into bed exhausted, only to do it all again the next day. And for what? If anything, the time away had put even more distance between him and the shifters he should be leading.

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

Once Wesley was truly their Alpha, they were certain to see his strength, his devotion, his skill in leading them, and they’d know the mark on his skin didn’t matter. Maybe then the pack would respect him.

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

Of course, for Wesley to be Alpha, his uncle would first have to step down. At six feet, one inch in height with a muscular one hundred eighty-five pound frame, Wesley had the advantage of size and youth over his uncle. If the man kept clinging to the position, Wesley could challenge him for it and he was bound to win. But at what cost?

His uncle, though not as strong as he had been during his youth, was a good Alpha and he had always treated Wesley well. His mother would be horrified if he went against her beloved brother, and the pack was already wary of Wesley, so taking the position by force wasn’t likely to endear him to them. Winning in a challenge against his uncle might earn him the position of Alpha, but he’d lose the respect of everyone who mattered, himself included. He had no options, no solutions. He was stuck waiting.

“You’re only twenty-three. Give it time.”

The radio knob he had turned yet again, snapped off in his hand.

“Dammit!” Wesley yelled in the empty car.

The music was already on full blast so he couldn’t hear himself, but his throat felt the strain. For that matter, so did the rest of him. His heart raced, his lungs worked overtime, and his muscles stretched so tightly they could have snapped at any moment. He needed a way to release the tension and frustration, and when he glanced out the windshield at the streets he had been blindly driving past in his effort to put space between himself and the maddening conversation he’d had with his uncle, he found the perfect solution: a human bar.

Most shifters had fated mates, but Alpha wolves needed to focus on their pack, not a mate, so instead of settling down with one wolf, they gave their energy to their pack and sated their bodies with shifters who weren’t yet mated. Wesley had a mirror so he knew he was attractive and there had been no shortage of admiring glances and come-ons from the humans at his school, but he hadn’t been receptive to their advances because he dedicated all his remaining free time and energy into socializing with his pack. Unfortunately, the shifters who should have been falling all over themselves to get attention from an Alpha gave him a wide berth because of the scar he’d carried since birth. As he jerked the wheel and skidded into the parking lot, the last thing Wesley wanted was to focus on wolves who held him at arm’s length.

The scar, though large—the oddly textured skin bisected his stomach from just under his bellybutton to the top of his groin—didn’t keep him from shifting quicker than others, running faster, or being stronger. When he’d scuffled with other wolves as a youth, he had always come out on top, demonstrating his strength and proving that his skin anomaly should be irrelevant. But shifters were animals as well as people, and animals perceived an abnormality as a weakness, so to them, the scar mattered.
Exiled by his pack as a teen, Omega wolf Simon Moorehead learns to bury his gentle nature in the interest of survival. When a hulking, rough-faced Alpha catches Simon on pack territory, he tries to escape what he’s sure will be imminent death. But instead of killing him, the Alpha takes Simon home.

A man of action, Mitch Grant uproots his life to support his brother in leading the Blue Mountain pack. Mitch lives on the periphery, quietly protecting everyone, but always alone. A mate is a dream come true for Mitch, and he won’t let little things like Simon’s rejections, attacks, and insults get in their way. With patience, seduction, and genuine care, Mitch will ride out the storm while Simon slays his own ghosts and Mitch’s loneliness.

“Trick or treat!”

“We’re coming!” Frederick hustled to the front door of the Alpha house, his white lab coat billowing behind him. “Happy Halloween.” He opened the door and smiled down at the young ones crowded on the mat.

“Who’re you dressed as, Alpha?” asked the latest princess to grace Frederick’s doorstep. This one wore a green dress.

“He’s a doctor!” said a tiny zombie. “See, he has a doctor uniform.” He tugged on Frederick’s white lab coat as he spoke.

“Billy!” The cub’s mother rushed forward and dragged him aside. “We don’t touch people.” She looked up at Frederick from underneath her lashes, keeping her head respectfully lowered. “My apologies, Alpha.”

“Nothing to be sorry for.” Frederick waved her off casually. “I am a doctor,” he said to the children as he crouched down to their eye level. “But not just any doctor.”

Through the large picture window at the front of the house, Mitch could see their eyes widen with interest. That was his cue. With a sigh, he got up off the living room couch, picked up the giant bowl of candy, and then walked to the front door, slowing his pace and making his steps jerky as he neared.

“What kind of doctor are you, Alpha?”

“I’m Dr. Frankenstein,” Frederick said. “Do you know who that is?”

“Frankenstein’s the big monster,” said a little girl.

Rolling his eyes, Mitch began stomping loudly to get the children’s attention. He had told his brother the young ones either wouldn’t know who Frankenstein was or wouldn’t know enough to understand the concept of the doctor and his monster, but Frederick had always been a bookworm and a fan of old movies, and he was sure they were the perfect choices for Halloween costumes.

“Argh.” Mitch walked over to the children with his arms straight out in front of him.

“Frankenstein is the doctor,” Frederick explained patiently. He scooted back, pulled the door all the way open, and pointed at Mitch. “That’s my monster.”

All eyes turned to Mitch, and it was a toss-up as to who was more frightened—the children or their parents. The all-black suit, green face paint, and bolts glued to the sides of his neck made him look like a scary monster to the cubs. His six foot seven inch, two hundred twenty-four pound hulking frame, coal black eyes, shaved head, rough face, and history as the person responsible for eviscerating the three men who had served as their Betas while his brother killed the previous Alpha made him the stuff of nightmares to their parents. The fact that Mitch and Frederick hadn’t asked for the battle and that the men had all been abusive to their pack wasn’t enough to completely eliminate their fears.

The children, at least, were easily soothed. Mitch gave his best monster growl, thrust the bowl at them, and within seconds, he was surrounded by costumed cubs grabbing candy. The adults stood a few feet away, tight smiles on their faces. When all the kids had shoved handfuls of treats into their pillowcases and bags, they turned on their heels and ran off, presumably heading for the next house.

One of the parents reminded them to say thank you, and without slowing down, squeaky voices yelled, “Thanks, Alpha! Thanks, Mr. Grant.”

“You can call me Mitch,” he said for what felt like the thousandth time.

“That was fun.” Frederick closed the door. “I’m going to call Donia before the next wave of kids hits.”

“You called after the last group left and that was less than five minutes ago,” Mitch said pointlessly. His brother’s protectiveness became more pronounced when his mate was carrying their young, and Donia was five months along with their second child.

“Lucy sounded tired,” Frederick said about his three-year-old daughter. “You know she can be a handful, and in Donia’s condition, she might be too much to handle.”

Mitch snorted and shook his head. “I dare you to tell your mate she can’t handle her own daughter.”

Never mind that Donia was smart, capable, and an excellent mother. She was also the biggest, strongest woman Mitch had ever seen. At five foot eleven inches, she was only an inch shy of Frederick’s height, and though her build was more feminine, she was just as muscular as her mate. On top of that, Donia was an Alpha wolf in her own right, something rare in females.

When Kristof, the previous Alpha, had refused to release ebony-skinned Donia from the pack because he had issues with her mating ivory-skinned Frederick, she had been ready to challenge him. But Frederick got there first and walked into an ambush no person could have survived alone. Fortunately, Frederick hadn’t been alone. His twin had been by his side as usual. So when the Alpha and his three Betas attacked Frederick, Mitch had killed the Betas and stepped aside to let his brother get rid of the Alpha. Together they had sent a clear message that underestimating the Grant brothers was a very bad idea. And they had inherited a pack in the process. A pack in a remote mountain town hundreds of miles away from the nearest big city.
