From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard, a new standalone, full-length Italian Mafia Romance novel.
My family rules the world, and I always get everything my heart desires. Well, almost everything. Okay, so there’s one thing I can’t have.
Luca Cotroni. Rude, arrogant, and demanding as hell, he’s the man I lust after and despise more than anything.
After a wild birthday party where I clearly had too many drinks, I wake up next to Luca wearing his ring. A wedding ring.
Who accidentally gets married to the head of the Italian mafia? Me. A bratva princess.
Our fathers insist we remain married for six months before we’re allowed to consider an annulment. Six months.
I have to live with him. Sleep next to him. Be a wife to him. It’s fifty-fifty whether we’ll kill each other or give in to the lust.

Bouncing on the balls of my feet, I chuckle as Dad walks in a slow circle around me.

My dad is the retired head of the bratva, and my Mom’s responsible for toppling many sex trafficking syndicates. My parents are badass to the bone and powerful. Hence, when Dad says it’s time for a sparing session, I don’t argue and do as I’m told.

“Come on, old man. I don’t have all day. I still need to go collect my dress and get some last-minute shop–” My words cut off as Dad lunges at me, then my feet are swiped from under me, and my butt hits the mat hard.

I let out a burst of laughter while groaning.

“Old man, my ass,” he mutters. “Little shit.”

I climb to my feet, then dart forward. Grabbing hold of Dad’s shoulders, I swing my body around his and wrap my legs around his neck. I take him down with a twist of my torso, and we both slam down onto the mat.

Someone starts to clap their hands, and my head snaps to the gym's doorway.

“Not bad, little sister,” Viktor praises me.

We might not be related by blood, but that doesn’t matter. Not only do I consider Viktor my best friend, but my older brother as well. We were raised as siblings because our parents have an unbreakable bond.

Viktor’s dad, Uncle Demitri, is my godfather, and Dad is Viktor’s godfather. Since before I was born, both families have lived on the same property. I’m trained the same as Viktor, but because I have the protection of my family, I never take the sparing sessions seriously and just do it to appease my dad.

Viktor, on the other hand, is better than our fathers, which he needs to be, seeing as he’s the head of the bratva.

My eyes land on the other man by Viktor’s side. Luca Cotroni, the head of the Italian mafia and Viktor’s best friend. Our families are close, and he’s also Dad’s godson.

The man is notorious for the ruthless way he dominates the arms market. No one dares go up against him and he’s gained the respect of all the other mafia heads and my father, who’s not easy to impress.

It’s also one of the reasons I think so highly of him. We might not get along, but it doesn’t stop me from admiring what he’s achieved at the age of thirty-four.

Sigh, I’ve had a crush on him since I discovered my hormones. It’s my most guarded secret – one I’ll take to my grave, seeing as Luca is always indifferent toward me. It infuriates me to no end, and the little jabs we take at each other don’t help either.

The man is tall, dark, and handsome – an Italian work of art with a square jaw and a mouth I’ve had wild fantasies about.

Wearing a pair of sweatpants and a white t-shirt tailored for his muscled chest, he’s nothing short of a masterpiece. Every inch of him radiates confidence and power.

Damn, those sweatpants. H.O.T.

Just like Viktor, Luca is dangerous and ruthless. He’s also arrogant and demanding. But none of that stops me from lusting after the man.

I should get my head examined.

Luca smiles at Dad. “Uncle Alexei, good to see you.”

“You too, son.” Dad swipes up a towel and pats the beads of sweat from the back of his neck. “When are your parents arriving?”

“Tonight.”

Dad nods, then gives me a sideways hug. “Good session. Same time next week.”

“Yes, Daddy.”

When Dad leaves the gym, Viktor and Luca walk to the mat.

Curious, I ask, “Are you going to spar?”

“Yeah.” Viktor shoots a grin my way. “I need to kick some ass.”

“You wish,” Luca mutters.

He doesn’t even look my way, and it hasn’t escaped my attention that he didn’t even bother to greet me.

Rude.

Just to rain on his parade, I smile sweetly at him. “Hi, Luca. It’s good to see you again. I’m fine, thanks for asking.”

His eyes only touch on me for a second. “Mariya, a pleasure as always.”

Ugh.

I walk to where my towel and water bottle are lying and pick them up. I pat the towel over my cheeks and neck while watching the men take their positions.

Kick his ass, Viktor.

Viktor starts to move, lightly bouncing on his feet, but Luca doesn’t move a muscle.
From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard, a new standalone, full-length Turkish Mafia Romance novel.
Cinderella said to be kind, have courage, and always believe in a little magic. She’s wrong.
To survive in my world, you have to be dead inside, be on guard at all times, and never dream of the impossible.
You never dream of anything because you don’t just get to stop working for the Polish mafia. But you can be stolen from them.
Well, kind of. When Gabriel Demir, head of the Turkish mafia, attacks my boss, I’m caught in the crossfire.
I’m taken captive, interrogated, and soon find myself in the position of maid again. Only this time, it’s for the Turkish instead of Polish.
This time it’s for a dangerously attractive man and not the insane one I’ve known all my life. This time I find myself fantasizing about my boss instead of dreaming of ways to escape. This time I’m not threatened with pain and death but with pleasure.
But can I step out of the maid’s uniform and into a ballgown? Do I dare cross that line just for a moment in the spotlight?

Cinderella said, ‘Be kind, have courage, and always believe in a little magic.’

I suppress the bitter chuckle while walking down the corridor.

Cinderella’s wrong.

A gunshot rings through the air, the sound rippling over my skin. I startle but catch myself in time so I don’t drop the tray of black tea. With my heart lurching in my chest, I pause outside the door, and closing my eyes, I suck in a deep breath of air.

She’s very wrong. To survive in my world, you have to be dead inside, on guard at all times, and never dream of the impossible.

Never dream of anything.

I open my eyes, raise my chin, and step into the sitting room. For a split second, I glance at the dead body. Blood stains the carpet. Again.

The guy didn’t even work here for two weeks. Pity he didn’t last longer. At this rate, Tymon will run out of people to kill.

Which means it’s only a matter of time before I meet the bullet with my name carved into it.

I’ve seen it plenty of times whenever Tymon felt the need to threaten me. He keeps a wooden box full of bullets with all the staff's names engraved on them next to his favorite armchair.

Lord only knows how I’ve survived this long.

Tymon brought my mother over from Poland after I was born. She died when I was twelve, and ever since, I’ve been working for Tymon as a maid. Mom used to quote Cinderella to me, but after she passed away, I quickly realized life wasn’t a fairytale.

Tymon Mazur is the head of the Polish mafia. He believes you can beat and threaten your staff into obedience. He’s right. No one in this mansion will dare go against him.

You don’t just wake up one day and decide you’re no longer going to work for him. The only way out is death, and no matter how bad things get, I’m not ready to die.

“Get rid of the piece of shit,” Tymon barks at the remaining three men.

They pick up the body and carry it out of the room as I set the tray down on a glass coffee table.

Tymon’s black gaze rests on me, empty and cruel. “I want prawns and oysters for dinner.”

I nod dutifully. “Yes, Sir.” Not wanting to spend a second longer than I need to in his presence, I hurry out of the room.

“Did I say you can leave!” he shouts after me.

My feet come to a faltering stop, my shoulders slump, and even though every muscle in my body screams at me to not turn back, I obey.

I always obey.

It’s either that or death.

Stepping back into the sitting room, I keep my eyes cast down, staring at the black fabric of the skirt that ends just under my knees.

When I hear the armchair creak beneath his weight, I peek up. Tymon’s gaze is narrowed on me. He sets his gun down on the glass table, then closes the distance between us.

Power radiates from his bulky frame, the loss of half his hair doing nothing to lessen how dangerous and cruel he looks. He has round cheeks and a mustache that curls up at the ends.

Apprehension creeps through me, and I clench my teeth, fisting my hands at my sides.

His meaty palm connects with my left ear, the familiar pain exploding over my jaw and neck. The force has me falling to the right, my hip slamming into the golden corner of the coffee table, my hand crashing into the tray. The hot tea stings my skin before instantly cooling.

Staring at the carpet, I breathe through the sharp pain in my right hip.

That’s going to leave another bruise.

I take a breath, my chest empty of emotions.

“You only leave when I give you permission,” Tymon orders, his tone not leaving any room for arguments. Not that I’d dare argue with him. I’m not that stupid.

“Yes, sir,” I murmur, still not moving from my spot on the carpet.

“The food better be here at six,” he demands.

Shit. That only gives me two hours.

“Yes, sir.”

“Leave!” he barks. It’s followed by him grumbling, “Piece of ugly fucking shit.”

(Kiara’s Dad)

Sitting across from Tara, who was just supposed to be another one-night stand, I’m still trying to process the fact that she’s pregnant.

With my kid.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

Rising to my feet, there isn’t much space to move in the studio apartment. I slump back down on the worn sofa.

“Jesus,” I manage to mutter.

“You don’t have to do anything. I just thought you should know.”

Shaking my head, I let my eyes rest on the redhead across from me. The flicker of hope in her soft brown eyes brings a frown to my forehead. “I’m no white knight, lass.”

I’m the furthest thing from.

Tara nervously wets her lips, her eyes darting around the small living space.

Jesus, this is a fucking mess. On the spur of the moment, I admit, “I’m a bad man.”

Tara’s gaze flicks to me, then she asks, “What do you mean?”

Deciding to lay all the cards on the table, I say, “I work for the Irish mafia.”

Her eyes widen, and the hope that’s been flickering on and off dies a sudden death.

Letting out a sigh, I shake my head. “I can help out financially, but my life is no place for a kid… or the likes of you.”

Tara nods, and swallowing hard on the bomb I just dropped on her, she anxiously wipes the palm of her hands on her skirt. “I can tell the child you died.”

My gaze narrows on her as her words hit unexpectedly hard. “No.”

I don’t want my kid thinking I’m dead. I might have done a lot of bad shit in my life, but I’ll never turn my back on a kid, especially one that’s my own.

“Like I said, I’ll help out financially. I’ll check in on you and the kid whenever it’s safe. That’s the best I can do.”

Tara thinks for a while, her eyes focused on the wall of the neighboring apartment block outside the window. “I’ve heard horror stories about the Byrne family floating on the street. I don’t want my child anywhere near the mafia.”

“That we can agree on.”

Her gaze turns back to me. “Maybe we can tell the baby you’re a traveling salesman?”

The corner of my mouth lifts. “Sounds like a plan.” Getting up, I pull my wallet out and remove all the cash I have on me. “I’ll bring more.” I set the money down on the coffee table. Locking eyes with Tara, warning laces my tone as I say, “No one can know who I am. For your safety. Once the kid is born, give them your last name, and don’t go near the Byrnes.”

She nods as she stands up. “I won’t tell a living soul.”

I allow my eyes to drift over the woman responsible for one of the best nights of my life. For a split second, I wish things were different. I wish I had the luxury of getting to know her. Maybe things could work out between us.

But there’s no wishing in the life I’ve chosen for myself. My life and loyalty belong to Owen Byrne, the head of the Irish mafia.

I have to keep Tara and our unborn kid a secret.

Chapter 1

Kiara

Liam; 39. Kiara; 24.

Walking up the path, I can’t stop smiling. Today was a good day, and I can’t wait to share the news with my dad. The moment I open the front door, my smile grows even wider. “Dad?”

“In the kitchen, lass,” he calls out.

My feet feel light as I move through the cozy living room with its worn brown couches.

When Dad had a heart attack, I thought my own would stop. I was beside myself with worry and only managed to breathe freely once Dad was able to smile at me again.

The doctor said we were lucky. I’ve changed Dad’s diet and made sure there’s no stress whatsoever to get him worked up.

Entering the kitchen, it’s to find Dad and Kristine at the four-seater table. Kristine’s a temporary nurse I hired, using the money I had saved up from all the temp jobs I’ve done over the years to pay her salary. It’s not much, but it’s helping with the bills.

Dad gives me a surly look, then glares at the carrots on his plate. “Look what she’s makin’ me eat.”
From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard comes a new standalone, full-length Greek Mafia Romance novel.
Drowning in the murky waters of the mafia, I’m determined to find a way out. I have my sights set on becoming a film producer and won’t let anything or anyone stand in my way.
Nikolas Stathoulis is set on ruining my well-laid plans. His ruthless reputation has me running for the safety of my apartment.
But he’s always there. On campus. In my apartment. Expecting me to play by his rules. If only I can ignore his godlike features and stop my heart from doing cartwheels at the sight of him.
Greek God? Pretty much. But he’s rude, demanding, and hell-bent on making my life a misery.
Two can play this game… Right?

–— Max Brooks

Chapter 1

Tessa

Nikolas; 36. Tessa; 21.

An armed guard opens the engraved wooden door, and with a curt nod, he steps to the side so I can enter the house. It’s only my second time visiting the Stathoulis’ home, so the place is still foreign and intimidating. I’ll never get used to all the guards littered over the property.

A couple of weeks ago, my mother got engaged to the retired Godfather of the Greek mafia. We’re having our first family dinner tonight, and needless to say, I’m feeling anxious about meeting Nikolas and Athina, Peter’s children.

The couple of times I’ve talked to Peter, it always ended with me fidgeting like a little girl. The man has a serious set of eyebrows that makes him look threatening and short-tempered. Even though he’s never been hostile toward me, it always feels like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Mom’s assured me he’s sweet and caring, and I have nothing to worry about. As much as I don’t like the idea of my mother marrying Peter Stathoulis, it’s her choice to make. She deserves to be happy.

My dad died during a skiing accident when I was eight, and my mom spent all her time raising me. She only resumed socializing after I started classes at the Vancouver Film School.

If Peter makes her happy, I’ll do my best to support their relationship. But I want no part of the mafia. After Dad died, we didn’t associate with the mafia that much. Not that Dad played a very active role in the mafia. He was just one of their bookkeepers and never took part in the violent side of things.

It’s Mom’s choice, though. Me on the other hand, I’m going to continue focusing on my studies, and once I graduate, I’ll pursue a career as a producer.

Like a deer waiting to be pounced on, I cautiously glance around the entrance hall with its impressive staircase and sparkling gold chandelier, wondering which way I should go. The last time I was here, I came with Mom. I think the dining room is to my right. Even though the lights are on, everything feels dark and foreboding.

The apprehensiveness is mainly because I dread meeting Nikolas in person. I might not have anything to do with the mafia, but I’ve heard Nikolas is brutal and merciless. Whenever his name’s brought up, it’s always in fear.

“Theresa, agápi mou.” Hearing Mom call me ‘my love,’ my head swivels to the left, and a relieved smile splits across my face. She looks beautiful in a mermaid dress that looks like it’s been spun from pure gold.

“Mamá,” I grin as I move closer for a hug. I press a soft kiss on her cheek. “Wow, you look gorgeous.” Standing back, I make a show of taking in the dress.

“Tonight’s important.” Her gaze sweeps over my off-shoulder, cream satin dress, and she brushes the styled strands away from my bare shoulder. “We match. Good.”

I already feel uncomfortable in the dress because I’m not the skinniest and have struggled with my weight all my life, so when Mom’s eyes lock on the slit that ends mid-thigh, and it looks like she’s going to disapprove, I start fidgeting.

Before she can make a remark, Peter comes down the sweeping stairs. “Theresa,” he smiles. “Welcome.”

I force a polite smile to my face. “Thank you, Mr. Stathoulis.”

“Soon, we’ll be family. Call me Peter.”

The front door opens, and I glance over my shoulder.

“Really, Nikolas? Look at the mess,” a woman scolds, then a beauty in her early thirties breezes into the house like a queen. She must be Athina, Peter’s daughter. She makes a beeline for Peter, a smile chasing the scowl from her face. “Mpampà mou, sorry we’re late.”

A man follows after Athina, chuckling, “Glad I’m not the one in the hot seat tonight.” I’m assuming he’s Basil, Athina’s husband. He has a friendly face that can easily set a person at ease.

“What happened?” Peter asks his daughter just as Nikolas walks into the house.

My eyes zoom in on the blood staining the sleeves of the formal white shirt he’s unbuttoning, exposing a chest I can only describe as holy freaking shit. Golden skin spans tightly over muscle that looks like it’s been carved from precious metal.

He’s the tallest in the room, with the magnificence of a fallen angel. A firm jaw covered in a dusting of dark bristles, high cheekbones, and sharp eyes – the color of sinful nights – rob me of the ability to breathe. I take in every way-too-handsome inch of him in a split second.

A grim expression darkens his features, giving me the impression of a vengeful God out for every drop of blood he can get his hands on.
