Dex Arlington is the Alpha’s son, and he will not allow anyone to hurt his mate. When he finds out she's been beaten up by one of the pack wolves, he goes to settle the score. He doesn’t care that Casey hasn’t been able to change into a wolf. She belongs to him, and no one will hurt her, and anyone who tries will pay the price.

Casey Scott isn't happy. Ever since she knew she was a wolf, all she has ever wanted was to transition. She wants to run out in the wild, beneath the full moon. Only, it never happens. Her wolf is not coming.

She doesn’t know how Dex can want her. Yet, nothing sends him away. He refuses to leave her alone. From the moment they first met as children, he said he knew they were meant to be mates.

But someone has a secret. They are closing in. Who would dare try to kill the Alpha’s son?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Dex Arlington knew his father would be very proud of him at this moment. He stood in the men’s shower at the swimming pool complex, and he hadn’t torn Buddy Anderson’s throat out. This was a good thing, or at least it was according to his father.

A torn throat would cause a great deal of issues within the pack, and Dex didn’t like dealing with them at the best of times. Even his own father, Klaus, sometimes hated having to be Alpha. One day, Dex would have to take over and the whole Arlington Pack would belong to him. Everyone would turn to him for guidance and all that shit, but he had a way to go before that happened. He was an Alpha in training. Not that he felt like he needed any training.

No, that wasn’t true. He just liked to piss his dad off from time to time by pretending he knew it all. It was fun to irritate his father. At the moment, he already annoyed his dad by having a very bad reputation, especially among his peers.

It wasn’t his fault that everyone else was an asshole, or more specifically, it wasn’t his fault that Buddy Anderson rounded up a group of his buddies to beat the crap out of a girl. One specific girl, Casey Scott. There was no way he was going to allow anything to happen to Casey. She was the person he was going to protect above all.

Five months ago, she turned eighteen and like the rest of the pack, she was expected to change into her wolf. The only problem was that, even now, she was the only pack member in history that had not changed into wolf form. Unfortunately, it made her a target, and Dex could not allow that.

Staring at Buddy, wearing his swimming boxers and even whistling while not giving a shit, pissed him off. He leaned against the lockers, staring at the guy he wanted to kill. Dex cleared his throat and as he did, Buddy let out a shout and spun around.

“Holy fuck, you scared the crap out of me,” Buddy said. “I nearly shit myself.”

He didn’t laugh and the smile soon fell from Buddy’s face.

“Uh, what’s the problem?”

Dex stared at him for several seconds, but he didn’t say a word, just waited.

Buddy was a weakling and a coward. Always had been and always would be. He couldn’t stand him. The guy had gone after a female, and he looked at him, feeling the revulsion once again.

He could see Buddy tense up.

“You’re my problem, Bud,” Dex said. “You think it’s okay to attack females?”

Buddy scoffed. “Come on, man. You’re seriously not mad about Casey? That can’t be possible. We’re just trying to do the pack a favor.”

“A favor?”

“No one wants that weakling.”

Dex took a step, then another step. “And you’re the Alpha who gets to decide that?”

Another weak chuckle. “I’m on your side and the Arlington Pack is strong, and she cannot turn into a wolf.”

“My father has no problem with Casey. She is pack. Her place is here with all of us. Do you remember what happened to David?” Dex asked.

Buddy’s eyes went wide, and he started to shake his head.

Last year, David Delagair decided he was going to scare the crap out of Casey, and it ended with her getting a black eye. Dex made sure David had two bruised eyes, a broken arm, and he forced him to apologize to Casey. Anyone who hurt Casey, directly or indirectly, suffered.

Since the moment they were kids, she had been a target for bullies, but Dex had taken care of it. The bullying had soon stopped, until it was only a few fleeting events, which he dealt with. No one messed with his Casey.

He didn’t give a shit that she hadn’t changed, and he didn’t care if she never did. Casey was one of the nicest, sweetest people in the pack. Nothing was ever too big or too small. She gave, and people were quite willing to take from her.
On the night of her transition, Harper Shen is cruelly rejected and banished by her alpha, by her mate. Mateo Fox doesn’t want her, and he no longer wants her in his pack. For seven years, Harper has had no choice but to live with that rejection. She is part of a new pack now, and she has finally made a life for herself, and she is trying to forget the man who ruined her life.

Mateo was not going to mate with a young girl. Harper was too innocent and the pack would have eaten her alive. For the last seven years, he’d been visiting her new pack without her knowing, just so he could be closer, inhale her scent, and allow his wolf to know some semblance of peace.

This visit is different. On the way to Harper’s new pack, he picks up a scent and follows it to a human bar. That's where he sees his mate for the first time in seven years. The smell of her, the beauty—she is not the young girl he rejected, but a woman.

Harper will not forgive. She will not give in to Mateo. He broke her heart, crushed her spirit, and now she has finally been able to make a life for herself. But she may not have a choice. The full moon is approaching and this is the first time she will be close to her real mate, and she has no idea what their wolves are going to do. She doesn’t know if she is going to be able to stop it.

Will she give into the mating? Will Mateo finally win her trust? Or are they doomed to fail?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

“Alpha, this is a good thing.”

Mateo Fox glared at the father of the woman who was now his mate. Harper Shen being his mate was not a good thing. She had only just turned fucking eighteen.

This was what his luck got him. A child mate.

No, it wasn’t going to happen.

He inhaled the air, and knew she was in his home.

The wolf wanted to claim her, but Mateo was the one in charge, not his wolf. At forty years old, he didn’t give in to his basic animal urges. His father stood in the corner, and he knew the older man wasn’t happy, but he stayed silent.

“Do not tell me this is a good thing. You and I both know this is not good.” Harper was nothing more than a child. She had no place as his mate, or by his side. “I want her gone.”

“Gone?” her father asked.

“Yes. Harper Shen, from this day forth, will be banished from the pack.” It was the only way to guarantee his own sanity. He didn’t know who was charged with granting mates, but either way, this wasn’t fucking funny.

“But, sir, she’s … my daughter.”

“Then you better make sure you have family elsewhere that will take her. I don’t want her. Get out and take her with you!”

He wasn’t even going to tell her to her face. Mateo was pretty sure she heard it all anyway.

His mate. It was never going to happen.

Mateo waited, listening to the sound of the door closing, and then he knew his father would talk.

“You’re making a big mistake,” Mateo Sr. said.

“What do you expect me to do? Mate with an eighteen-year-old?”

“You didn’t have to mate with her right away, but you cannot deny the fact she is your mate.”

“I’m not denying it. I’m getting rid of the problem.” He swiped his hand across the desk. “Do you think this is funny?”

“I’m not laughing, son. You’ve been a fine alpha up until this point, but mark my words, you will regret these actions.”

With that, his father turned and walked away. After handing over the pack leadership to him, his father had never intervened, never questioned him.

Mateo knew he was acting irrationally, but what did they expect him to do? Harper was a child. She didn’t know what it took to be his queen.

There was no place for her in the pack, and seeing as he rejected her, he’d shown her mercy and kindness in removing her from the pack. Now, she could live her life far away from him. He didn’t need to worry about his wolf, and they could be at peace.

The wolf inside him wasn’t happy. He knew that, and it was going to take some time for his own being to make peace with his decision.

Chapter One

Seven Years Later

“You think this is wise?” Harper asked her friend Franny.

“No, none of this is wise, but come on, you’ve got to admit it’s fun.” Franny dragged her up to the bar.

The music was loud but with her expert wolf hearing, she could hear Franny just fine. The rest of the group was also around the bar, some dancing, others ordering drinks.
After being away from the pack for seven years, Joe Johnson is back. He's ready to learn from his father so he can take over as alpha one day. On the first night back, he meets up with friends, and catches the most unexpected scent. It was like the best vanilla frosting he’d ever smelled, and he is shocked and delighted to find it's coming from Darcy Pine. She is also fifteen years older than him, and even though loved by the pack, is considered boring.Darcy is not mated. She has never been mated because she refuses to settle down with anyone but her true mate. After discovering the alpha's son is her mate, she's terrified. Joe is not taking no for an answer. But Joe has a secret. He has never been with a woman. For as long as he could remember, he has had a crush on Darcy, and even when he was younger, he was obsessed with her.Darcy has never been with a man, but when it comes to Joe, she cannot deny her attraction. Rather than tell anyone, they decide to keep their relationship a secret. They don’t want the pack to know. However, when one of Joe’s friends insults her, Joe cannot control his need to protect her. They cannot keep their relationship a secret for much longer, but will the pack accept them?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Joe Johnson laughed as his two best friends embraced him. He’d not seen either of them since he had turned eighteen and decided to leave the pack to spread his wings—and to learn who he was.

Now at twenty-five years old, he was back and ready to start learning everything he needed to take over from his father when the time was right.

“It is so good to have you back with us,” Ryan said, slapping him on the shoulder.

“What was it like being so far away from home?” Wade asked, holding up a beer.

Joe shrugged. “It is what it is.” He went out in the world to find himself. His father, William, told him that in life he would have to make some tough decisions, and those decisions were going to change his life. He was expected to become the alpha of this pack when his father decided to step aside. He knew it would be a long time before his father gave up the reigns.

As wolves, they aged a lot differently, so even though his father was close to eighty years old, he didn’t look a day over forty. His mother, Callie, was the same. They had met and bonded when they were in their forties.

Wolves were supposed to have a fated mate—one person in the world who was designed to be theirs for the rest of their lives. The only problem was, not all fated mates lived within the same pack. Also, some packs didn’t get along with others. Not every single male was an alpha, and not all alphas liked to have many of them in charge. It caused conflict.

Joe knew he held alpha traits, and before he left, although he hadn’t meant to, he had challenged his father. It was then he realized he needed to leave to handle his anger, and not live under his father’s control.

Now, seven years later, he realized he wasn’t under his father’s control at all. His dad was an amazing alpha. He had stumbled onto other packs, seen how brutal they could be, and knew his father was nothing like those men. His father was kind, sweet, charming, but he did keep the pack working and in order, which was exactly what the pack needed.

“It is what it is? What the fuck is that?” Wade asked.

“And where is the fucking welcoming committee? I thought your dad would be all over that shit. Certainly your mom,” Ryan said.

Joe laughed. “I asked them not to. I don’t want to make it a big deal that I’m back.” Instead, he’d opted to enjoy a quiet dinner with his family, to swear his loyalty to his father, and to meet his friends in the only local bar. The pack did enjoy drinking, but very few of the wolves got drunk. Their wolf metabolism prevented them from being drunk for very long.

“Shit, man, nah, that shouldn’t be acceptable. You’re back. That means all the women will be wanting you, man. The full moon is next week, and trust me, it is going to be one big, giant orgy.” Wade gave a whistle and a groan.

“Is that why you came back?” Ryan asked. “Missing some wolf pussy?”

Joe laughed but didn’t confirm it.

They were his friends, but they clearly hadn’t grown up since he had left. Neither of them appeared to be mated. The full moon was a week away. Joe had known it was coming and he’d made the decision to come back home. He no longer wanted to be alone, and nothing was keeping him away anymore.

Now all he wanted to do was settle down. He’d already moved into the small apartment his father had built for him above the garage. His sister was pissed as she hoped to have it for herself, but Lucie was going to have to wait.

“So, tell me what’s been going on with the two of you?” Joe asked, wanting to change the conversation.

Wade started to talk about a couple of the women he’d been enjoying.

He took another long swig of his beer and breathed deeply. The moment he did, something sensational assaulted his senses. Joe tensed up and he couldn’t help but ignore Wade telling them about his latest conquest and what she could do with her mouth and throat.

Joe lost interest and began to glance around the bar. That smell was amazing. It was like the most intense vanilla cake with the sweetest frosting, but it wasn’t just that smell. The smell of meatballs and a heavenly tomato sauce, and the sweetest bacon with maple syrup.

His body tightened.

“Yo, Joe, what’s the problem, man?” Wade asked.

“Can you smell that?” Joe asked.

“Smell what?”

Joe began to walk through the bar as he moved from person to person. The smell got even more intense, but suddenly it disappeared and faded.

He looked toward the door to find it closed.
Karina is not like any of the wolves within her pack. She's a human. The only human to be born of two wolves. When her father invites another alpha to take his pick of willing, single, consenting females, Karina has no choice but to be in the lineup. She is pack, she is single, and she knows she is not going to get picked. She is human, and any alpha would be looking for a wolf.Rage has no desire to take a woman from Westblood’s pack. He doesn’t need a woman to make an alliance against the rogue wolves that are deadly to all wolves. One scent of Karina, and all sense is lost. She is his mate. He doesn’t care that she's human, all he knows, is that he belongs with her.Karina doesn’t feel anything for Rage. Even though he claims to be her mate, she doesn’t sense a thing. She has no wolf senses. She is weak. But slowly, little by little, she cannot help but be drawn to the new alpha. He doesn’t treat her with kid gloves. He shows her his wolf, and he is willing to explore with her.Rage has already figured out why Karina is human. He doesn’t care. She is his love and his soul mate, and he will never let her go.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

“It is too late to send her away,” William Westblood said, slamming his palm against the nearest tree. It shook for a few seconds, but didn’t fall.

“Sweetheart, you must calm yourself.” Patricia, his wife, rushed to his side, gripping his arms, trying to offer him comfort, but he shrugged it off.

This was a first for him, as he never refused his mate. He never wanted to, but right now, he didn’t know how he could save his daughter. For many years they had been blessed with five children. Three boys and two girls. Karina was his youngest child, and even though they don’t know what went wrong, his sweet wife had been ill during her pregnancy. It was the first time his mate was truly ill.

Karina was born too soon, and they had feared she would die. For the first time in his long life, he prayed. He sunk down on his knees and prayed to whatever god would hear him, to not take his daughter away.

He knew it was selfish. He already had four children, but he loved his mate, he loved his children, and he would die for all of them, including the pack he was alpha to.

Someone must have been listening because Karina made it through the night, then the next, and the next. Before long, months passed, then years. Now, she was twenty-three years old, but she was different.

The pack adored her. Even though she was different, they all took turns to care for her. Whenever she was injured, it lasted a considerable length of time. He knew the pack refused to allow her to go out on adventures. The boys and girls of her own age were not rough with her and treated her like the delicate soul she was.

She was the only wolf he knew to get sick, and that was another little element about his young daughter—she was the only person within the pack who hadn’t changed into a wolf. There was always a risk in keeping her.

He and his wife hadn’t even thought about sending her away, but he knew there had once been whispers of forcing her to leave. He would never do that.

Karina was a Westblood.

He would die for his child, most of the pack would. Over the years those vicious threats and rumors had faded. He hoped the pack had learned to love his daughter. For him, it was unconditional. But now, she was at threat.

William knew he was powerful, but he also knew he wasn’t infallible. There was talk of rogue wolves, almost feral, taking over packs, raping women, killing the men, turning them into soldiers. He would not allow that to happen to his pack, so he had reached out to another.

The other pack had no name, but the alpha was known as Rage. Fierce and feared. To bring their packs together, William agreed to let Rage have any woman he chose from the Westblood pack.

Running a hand down his face, he looked toward his wife, as fear once again took hold.

Karina was without a mate. As was his other daughter, but Rose was quite capable of handling herself. Unlike Karina, Rose was not a virgin.

“What can we do?” he asked, turning to look at his mate.

Patricia smiled at him. “Hope that he doesn’t choose her.”

He didn’t know if he could live on hope, but for now, it was all he could do.

Chapter One

Karina hated being in trouble which was exactly what she would be when she got home. Today of all days was not the day to mess with her father. He was already tense with that other pack coming. She had no idea what to call them, but she knew it was stressing her father out. Rose had already told her about the lineup.

Rage, the mystery alpha with no pack name, would have his pick of women or woman. Karina wasn’t quite sure on the details and Rose was never the one to truly listen. Her sister often heard what she wanted to hear, and didn’t really care about the fuzzy details between.

She hated the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what was going to happen and when.

The moment she got to the gate, her father was already there.

“Where have you been?” he asked. She heard the distinctive growl that fell from his lips. He never went all alpha on her as there was no point. She didn’t feel his power. There were no goose bumps across her skin. Nothing to make her bow down or fear him. Another little part of her that her family attempted to call “special,” but they all knew the truth. She wasn’t one of them.

Even when they tried to make her feel a part of the pack, it was always denied.

She never knew when a full moon was close, never felt the warmth and heat that enveloped her. Unlike the whole of the pack, she didn’t feel the strength nor power of her wolf. Of course, it also meant she didn’t have to go through the body twisting, bone grinding and breaking pain of each transformation. None of that was pretty.
Leah hates Killian. The alpha wolf that rejected her.

He was destined to be her mate, but no, she was too witchy for him. She wasn't going to stand around waiting for him, and she certainly wasn't going to follow him around like a lost little puppy.

Just a tiny problem. He needs her.

Her coven and her parents believe it's a good idea for her to go with him, to help him on his super secret mission. So that's what she does. Not because she wants to be with him, but because he needs a witch.

Killian is in search of a way to break the mating bond between him and Leah. She cannot be his mate. A witch will be his undoing. He’s seen the prophecy. Leah will destroy the pack, and he can’t allow that to happen.

He has to go on a quest and make the ultimate sacrifice. Mate with Leah, and then end that bond. He has waited a lifetime to find his mate, and now he must let her go. Can he?

Will he destroy the prophecy for the sake of his pack? Or ruin the only good thing to ever come into his life?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

“You cannot be serious about me helping that … that thing!” Leah looked at her parents and knew before they even spoke a word that there was no chance of arguing her way out of this.

“Don’t call him that, sweetheart. It’s not nice,” her mother said, always trying to be the reasonable one.

“Why do I have to be nice to him when he’s been a total dick to me?”

“Language, Leah.” This was her dad, attempting to keep the peace.

Even though she was twenty-five years old, she couldn’t help herself and stomped her foot in annoyance. She had stopped being a child a long time ago. Inheriting her magical ability at a young age had kept her from enjoying any kind of childhood. Her magic was powerful and dangerous, which put her at risk. She couldn’t enjoy the normal, everyday human world. She and her parents had no choice but to take her back to the coven to be raised around magic, with her lessons constantly focused on controlling her abilities.

Leah didn’t mind. She knew her parents loved and cared about her dearly, but they had hoped she would have some kind of normal life. Instead, she was taught by several good witches and warlocks intent on keeping her safe. Being one of the most powerful witches foretold, a great many people wanted her dead at a young age. She couldn’t remember the prophecy exactly, but interpretation suggested she would come into her power at eighteen, and be one of the best witches for the side of good, not evil. They had been so wrong, because that hadn’t happened at all. She didn’t get to wait until eighteen for her magic—that came sooner.

There were a lot of Latin and double meanings, and, well, she was nagged by many witches and warlocks to just follow their lessons and do as she was told. Including traveling with a pack. Yep, her very first werewolf pack that wanted a protection border in place, from humans.

Protection happened to be her forte, there was just a little snag—Killian. The alpha wolf. Yeah, she had no wolfy blood or anything like that, but she had known the moment she met him, they were (vomit) mates.

There was no reason to vomit. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Killian. Yes, he was much older than her. He looked forty years old, but he was probably a lot older, as wolves tended to keep the same appearance even as they aged. That pesky little immortality they all enjoyed.

Killian, though, was pure muscle. He had thick brown hair with a few hints of grey, and the prettiest blue eyes she’d ever seen. Only, she had never seen Killian smile. No, Mr. Killian Werewolf didn’t like the fact she was a witch. He denied their mating, even though everyone saw it, and his rejection had stung. This kind of caused a little pesky rainfall that lasted the entire trip. She was casting a protection spell around their town. She hadn’t been a bitch to him, though. She hadn’t weakened the spell, in fact, it was bound tightly, because Killian aside, the rest of his pack had been awesome.

Now she had to go on some kind of quest with Killian. The coven and her parents demanded it, which was so unfair. She hated being around Killian. She hated crying over his rejection, and when she was emotional, controlling her magic became difficult.

“Honey, I know his rejection hurt, but after this, trust me, you’re going to feel better for it.” Her father came toward her, grabbing her hands and holding them against his chest.

“People will say I’m a little lapdog for following him around like a damn puppy. I can’t do it,” she said.

“No one will think that, sweetheart, trust me. Your presence has been requested and you know the coven can never turn down a request for help. He needs help. Please, do not embarrass us and let us help.”

She blew out a breath.

The point of their coven was to constantly do good. To be good. It fucking sucked. Not that she’d say that out loud. She knew the whole coven would have freaked out if she had turned into a bad witch.

Leah wasn’t bad and she wasn’t mean. From time to time she got angry, upset, and frustrated, but she made a point of not using her magic then.

“Fine. Fine. I’ll do it, but I’m not going to be nice to him. Not at all.”

“You leave immediately,” her father said.

“Yay.”

****

Ryan watched his daughter go and knew Vivian, his wife and soul partner, didn’t like this.

“We should have told her,” Vivian said.

“You know that would have been bad.”

“And allowing her to go off on some quest to do this is … better? They’re going to dark magic, Ryan. You know how fine a line Leah walks. This could push her over the edge.”
Ashley is riding high after finally becoming a member of the pack. On that fateful night, the best and worst things happen to her. Not only does she turn into a wolf, but she finds her mate. None other than the pack’s nomad alpha, Phoenix. He doesn’t want her as his mate.
All he’s ever needed was his bike and the freedom of the open road—until Ashley. Phoenix knows he’s made a mistake by rejecting Ashley. Nothing else matters to him. Each time he visits the pack he hopes to see her, but she’s perfected the art of avoiding him—until he decides to stay.
Ashley wants to stay mad at Phoenix to protect herself, but with every passing day she learns more about their aloof alpha. She wants to give herself to him completely, but will she be risking more than her body?

He left once. He rejected her once. He’d been cruel. Is there any chance that he’s really changed?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Ashley Simpkin raised the beer along with most of her peers. Not only had they all graduated from high school, but they just had their first turning. Even as her arms shook from the transition of human into wolf, she wanted to take the time to celebrate. Her entire body was on fire.

She felt sick and hungry at the same time. Her head felt like it had spent the past couple of hours banging against a brick wall. None of that was going to stop her from enjoying this very moment.

She was finally a wolf.

For a whole year she’d been afraid that she wouldn’t be able to turn, that her parents would be pissed, and the pack would turn her away. Admittedly, for them to do that, their alpha, Phoenix Marshall, would have to be present, which he never was.

It was kind of weird for them to have a nomad biker as their alpha. She rarely saw him, but she always knew when he was in town because the pack just went nuts. He’d stop by from time to time. The truth was, he wasn’t their true alpha, well, he was and he wasn’t. Confusing, but the pack had been in trouble several years back. She was ten at the time, and hadn’t been part of the drama that unfolded when it came to the pack. What she knew was from listening in to her parents’ conversations. Nothing more.

Their previous alpha had been weak. He’d gained power by attempting to claim how strong he was and how he’d protect them all, but the truth was, he didn’t have the first clue what he was doing. He’d used their obscure location as a way to keep his place at the top for years. He assumed his role of being a dickhead, until eight years ago when they had some wandering wolves stumble onto their private little town.

It hadn’t taken long for the traveling wolves to realize they were powerless. For three days and nights, the pack had lived in fear while the alpha cowered and gave into their every demand. Men had been killed, and some women had been … raped.

Then one man, a nomad biker, rode in on his motorcycle, looking for a place to crash, and stumbled onto the men.

Ashley wasn’t exactly sure on the details, but it sounded like Phoenix passed through town a few times. He’d take the time to stay for a beer and a couple of nights’ rest before moving on. This time, he’d stayed, seen what had happened, and then her parents described him as going “full rabid mode.” She’d never seen a wolf be uncontrollable before, but it had been him against possibly ten men. When she heard the story, which came around when he visited, it sounded a little far-fetched.

Until you saw him.

Phoenix was not an approachable man. He was tall, muscular, heavily inked, had a few scars that probably could tell a gazillion stories, and he wasn’t very nice. But—and this was a big but—he kept the town freaking safe. Now he stopped by multiple times a year, and the women went crazy for him.

Ashley couldn’t recall the last time she’d seen him. It had been a couple of years, but being a minor, unchanged, none of the pack allowed him to deal with the youngest. The truth was, Ashley had often wondered why the pack didn’t appoint a deputy alpha, someone to take charge while Phoenix was riding off into the sunset.

Taking a large gulp of the beer, Ashley shook off the weird feeling that worked its way down her spine. The beer was disgusting and turned her stomach. The sick feeling wasn’t going away. She put her beer down, and Daniel, one of her friends, gave her a quizzical look.

“I’m just heading outside,” she said.

“Do you want me to come?”

“No, no, it’s okay. You stay here. I’ll be back in a moment.” She forced a smile to her lips, even though it was the last thing she felt.

She moved around the bar, heading toward the side door. There were not as many from the pack. The pack didn’t like weakness. Since their attack, they had focused on nothing but strength. No one could show a sign of weakness, which at times was so hard to do.

Ashley stepped outside, leaned against the side of the building, and took several deep breaths of the warm night air. She stared up at the moon, which wasn’t quite as high in the sky. Time didn’t matter tonight. Her parents had told her to go and have fun. It was up to her when she returned home. This was a night of celebration. She should be in there with her friends.

That strange feeling swept over her body. Ashley didn’t know what it was but as she went to turn, someone suddenly wrapped their fingers around her neck and pressed her up against the wall.
Life is so unfair.

The first time Poppy transitions, she finds out her mate is none other than Klaus freaking Demon, the alpha’s son. The guy who’s been secretly bullying her for years. If he thinks she’s going to fall for him, he’s wrong.
Klaus apologizes, so what more does she want? They’re mates, and there’s no way she can deny this connection. She wants nothing to do with him, but she belongs to him, and he can’t allow her to leave. When a visiting pack full of unmated males comes to town, Klaus knows he’s screwed. While he still tries to make Poppy see sense, the visiting alpha’s son takes a shine to her. Klaus can’t stand to see Poppy with another, and it’s time he steps up—even if his dad will find out about the bullying.
Will Poppy give him a chance or push him away? Klaus isn’t sure how he could handle the rejection. Can he allow her to be happy with another, or will he admit to what he’s done and stake his claim on his mate?

FULL BOOK START HERE:

Chapter One

“What exactly do you want from me?” Poppy Davenport asked. She stared at the alpha’s only son, and anger filled her. She had never felt this way about anyone else. Klaus Demon was a nasty piece of work, and she … hated him. He was cruel, manipulative, and just horrible.

The fact that on her first transition, which was a grand whole eight months after his, he discovered that she might, by a tiny slither of possibilities, be his mate, was just ridiculous. What was more, he wouldn’t leave her alone. This had been three days ago.

In the past three days, she’d seen more of Klaus than she ever cared to.

“You know what I want from you, Poppy. Stop being a fucking jerk already.”

She spun around to face him and glared. “I’m being the jerk?” She pointed at her chest. “How do you figure that out?”

“Why haven’t you told anyone?” Klaus asked with his arms folded.

Poppy continued to glare at him. The more time she spent in his company, the more she disliked him. She’d spent over a decade trying to avoid him.

“Why would I tell anyone?”

“Why not tell anyone? Come on, this is a big fucking deal.”

She gritted her teeth and counted to ten in her mind. This guy. He thought because they were in some way mates, he believed she’d be happy. No one had seen them three nights ago. The way their wolves had been connected—it was this instant, undeniable attraction. It was fucking scary just how strong that instant hit of lust had been. Poppy hated it. She knew who Klaus was, and it hadn’t taken her long to realize what all of this actually meant.

Her bully, the guy who made her life hell at school, throughout the pack, and just any chance he got, was her mate.

This wasn’t fair.

She hadn’t told her mother. No other pack member, certainly not the alpha.

The alpha was known for his traditions, and he believed that mates should be together. If he knew the truth, there would be a ceremony, and she’d be with Klaus for a period of time. The alpha always asked his people to give their mating a chance.

“How is this a big fucking deal to you, Klaus?”

“You’re my mate. After all this time, we’re in the same pack. There’s nothing dividing us. We have found one another, and we both know that shit is rare.” He looked so excited.

The truth was, she was utterly disappointed.

“Poppy, the whore’s daughter. Fat Poppy. Fat Poopy. Look everyone, duck and cover, Fatty’s in the room. Whore. Slut. Bitch. Ugly cow. Do you need me to go on?” Poppy asked.

The name-calling had started when she was young. Mainly because of her mother, who wasn’t a bad person. No, her mother, Anna, was complicated. Her only mate died many years ago, when Poppy was a young girl. So young that she didn’t even remember being near him or enjoying the experience of being a daddy’s girl, or having a father in her life.

From what she remembered, her mother had mourned. For a long time, the full moon would be a painful experience for her only living parent.

Poppy recalled sitting at her window each full moon and hearing the painful howls of her mother. Knowing deep in her heart, that her mom, even in wolf form, was crying. That deep-seated pain had never gone away.

Until one day, she found comfort in one of the unmated men. Then another unmated man. There was never any constant lover or boyfriend. They were never married or mated. The men who were with her mother enjoyed a casual hookup. Of course, the pack knew of it, and it caused trouble for Poppy at school.

They figured her mother was a whore. She wasn’t. There was never any money swapping hands. No negotiations of price. Just an encounter. A moment together. They never happened at home. Poppy was aware of the men, but they never happened at home, and if they ever did, her mother clearly snuck them out.
