Our past sins are intertwined, but we have no future…
One kiss and I was hooked. One night, and I was in love. Because until Marcello Salvatore saw me, I was invisible.
For years, I had a crush on my cousin’s best friend. I dreamed of the day we would finally be together.
But after Marcello kills a Founder to protect me, I have to run. He sends me away and tells me never to return to Devil’s Creek.

Too bad my father had other plans for me…
I’m promised to the son of an Irish Mob boss. A sick and twisted monster I hate with a passion.
Marcello’s world is tainted by blood and corruption. But he’s always been my protector, my white knight. And I’m hoping my Knight will step up and save the day.

***The Devil I Desire is a steamy standalone novel that ends with a HEA. However, The Devil’s Knights series is best enjoyed if read in order.
The thought rolled around in my head as I moved through the crowded ballroom. People stared at me with wonder and a hint of irritation because people like me were not welcome among the elite.

Our invitation to the masquerade ball arrived in a gold box. Ornate and decorated with olive branches, I wondered if the box was a joke. An olive branch, of all things? Was Arlo Salvatore messing with my family once again? It would not have been the first time he’d agreed to let us into his carefully curated world, only to make us look like fools in the end.

I was smart enough to know the Salvatores would never consider my family worthy. My dad was a gangster, a criminal. He was the leader of the Irish Mob, feared by anyone with the sense to know he was dangerous. But Arlo and his sons feared no one.

Women dressed like fairies from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, their eyes decorated with glitter or hidden by a mask. They looked ethereal, as if they were the Shakespeare characters brought to life. The men wore tuxedos with masks hiding their faces. I didn’t need to see their faces to know which monsters lurked in the shadows.

From across the room, I spotted Marcello Salvatore staring at me. He wore a red and black carnival mask. His black hair was messy on purpose, and as usual, falling onto his forehead.

He stood beside his older brother, Luca. They were both gorgeous beyond words, with chiseled jaws, Roman noses, and the most haunting blue eyes I’d ever seen. Marcello’s eyes looked sad, while Luca looked like the Devil possessed him. They shared their father’s good looks, both tall and muscular, though Marcello was broader in the shoulders and chest.

My cousin, Shane “Sonny” Cormac III, moved across the room with a glass of scotch in hand. He flashed his usual golden boy smile at everyone he passed, stopping beside Marcello after he worked the room. The pair had been best friends since they were kids.

From the moment I met Marcello, he became my obsession. I was fourteen years old, awkward, and still wearing braces. Marcello was three years older than me, and back then, the quarterback of the Astor Prep football team. Sonny let me come to one of their games. That was the first time I met Marcello.

After that day, I tagged along with my cousin and his best friend. I went to all of their football games and followed them to the after-parties. And by the end of Marcello’s senior year, I ditched the braces, fixed my hair, and he took my virginity. If Sonny ever found out, he would have killed Marcello. He watched over me like an overprotective brother. Since I was an only child and always on my own, Sonny was there whenever I needed him. And when no one was watching, so was Marcello.

I took my sweet ass time walking around the room, observing the Devil’s Creek WASPs in their natural habitat. Alexandrea Wellington stood beside Luca Salvatore, dressed in a pale pink fairy dress that barely covered her thighs. She wore a silver mask, her blond curls framing her heart-shaped face. Like most of the people in Devil’s Creek, Alexandrea and Luca’s families arranged their marriage.

Luca looked slightly annoyed. His top lip curled up in anger as his eyes flicked to Alexandrea. She shot an equally pissed-off expression at him. My father didn’t care enough about my future to marry me off to a wealthy man. At least, that was one thing I had going for myself.

Aiden Wellington floated through the room, pounding glasses of whiskey. He looked even more irritated than his twin sister, like he would rather eat glass than mingle with the people at this party. I moved toward him, knowing he was the perfect target. We could bond over our mutual disdain for the Salvatores.

I leaned against the bar beside Aiden, and he looked down at me with one eyebrow lifted. He had the prettiest blue eyes I’d ever seen up close. His hair was blond and curly, like his sister’s, except his hair was short on the top. He reminded me of Ryan Phillippe in the movie Cruel Intentions, the bad boy attitude and all.

A dimple popped in his right cheek when he smiled. “I’ve seen you around Beggars Bay.”

I tipped my nose up at his dig about my hometown. Everyone from Devil’s Creek referred to Beacon Bay as Beggars Bay because of the increase in crime and decrease in wealth. Still, our towns were only ten minutes by car. So it wasn’t like we were slumming it, either. But compared to billionaires like the Salvatores, Cormacs, and Wellingtons, we were white trash. Or so they thought. My father’s mansion was the size of the guest quarters at the Salvatore Estate.
Queen claims Knights…
I’m stuck in my own version of Hell. A horrible place even the Devil himself fears.
Thankfully, every fairy tale has a white knight. And in my case, I have The Devil’s Knights.
I knew my fierce protectors would come from me. I never doubted my Devil would save the day.
The Devil’s Knights need their Queen to ensure their survival. It’s time to marry my Devil and take my place with the Knights.
But our enemies will do anything to destroy our happily ever after.

Note: This is the third and final book in the series. You must read The Devil I Hate and The Devil I Crave before this book.
With an annoyed groan, I tapped the button to send him to voicemail. Our newly minted Knight only called to complain about an issue with a job, and I wasn’t in the mood to deal with his shit. I thought we had broken him over the past nine months. When I’d admitted him into our organization, after enduring the nine circles of Hell during his Initiation, I had expected him to stop being a thorn in my side.

No such luck.

He left a voicemail, then called again, grating on my last fucking nerve.

What the fuck does he want?

I opened my desk drawer and dropped the phone inside. The phone vibrated again. His insistence piqued my interest, but I had more important business to deal with—like saving his sister’s life.

I leaned back in my chair, resting my dress shoe on my knee as the vein in my neck pulsed. The men on the other line were grinding my ass into the pavement for one fucking favor. Now that everyone in the criminal underworld knew I had a weakness, those motherfuckers were out for blood.

Bastian and Damian sat in leather armchairs across from my desk, listening to the heads of each crime family offer suggestions about our issue with the Albanians. We were on a secure line, one the FBI could not touch. I never made a habit of speaking over the phone, but these were desperate times.

“I will pay ten million dollars to whoever brings me the heads of the fucking Albanians,” I shouted into the speakerphone on my desk.

“Ten plus a free shipment, no questions asked,” Vince Alteri said in a stern tone.

No questions. Exactly what I tried to avoid to limit my liability.

Vince was the boss of the Alteri crime family in New York. The Mafia Don had given me the best deal of the bunch. While everyone else was content on raking my ass over hot coals, I respected him for throwing me a bone.

“Done.” I loosened my tie, already feeling ten million dollars lighter. “As for the bounty on my fiancée’s head, I will pay triple to make it go away.”

Alex hadn’t accepted my proposal yet, but word had already spread that we were getting married. Money ruled my world, and my family had tons of it. A few million here and there meant nothing if it kept my girl safe.

“You know the rules, Luca,” Stefano Marchese said.

He was an old friend of my father who ran a small operation from his mansion on the Long Island Sound.

“The man who set the bounty has to lift it,” I growled. “Yes, I know. And if I could locate the motherfucker, I would force him to cancel the contract.”

“Let us handle the Albanians,” Vince Alteri said.

“I need assurances,” I countered.

“I will tell my men to ignore the bounty for Alexandrea,” Vince promised. “You have my word.”

I tapped my platinum and onyx serpent ring on the desk to steady my nerves. “Stefano?”

“Agreed.”

Three of the other four men on the phone muttered similar responses.

“The Basiles are in town,” Enzo Conte boomed. “I expect Arlo and our Sicilian friends to grace us with their presence this weekend.”

Enzo had influence and power over the men on the phone.

“All of my family will be there,” I told Enzo.

My father had insisted I handle this matter without his intervention. Not like I needed his help. But an old school Mafioso like Enzo would only speak to the head of the family, even though I was about to assume the position.

In my father’s eyes, my marriage to Alex was a step in the right direction. The plans he had laid out for me were falling into place. But until I held the title, men like Enzo would not consider me on the same level. And I needed his help.

“There’s one more matter of concern,” I told them. “We received a call from Conor O’Shea. Someone kidnapped his daughter Rhiannon after adding her to the Il Circo auction.”

Rhiannon O’Shea was the only daughter of an Irish Mob boss and Sonny’s cousin. Marcello had a love-hate relationship with the girl and saw her occasionally. Because of his friendship with Sonny and our relationship with the Irish, Marcello wouldn’t tell anyone about her. I was the only person who knew about his side piece.

With all the shit we had going on, I hadn’t had the chance to tell Marcello about Rhiannon. I wasn’t even sure if he would care. That bitch and her father had blackmailed my family for something Marcello had done in the past. Rhiannon could be the fuck toy of a sick motherfucker at the auction for all I cared.

She was my brother’s fuck buddy, but I could tell there was something more between them. Marcello hadn’t spoken a word to her after Alex came back to Devil’s Creek. That was how I knew he was falling for Alex. Other than Rhiannon, Alex was the only woman Marcello had kept around for more than a night.
And not with the handsome one standing beside me, watching his brother’s life dangle from a string. No, I prayed to the evil lurking within the halls, the monster that lived inside all of us. I’d never believed in a higher power, but I would have gladly signed a contract in blood.

Sold my soul to the Devil.

Anything to keep Marcello alive.

We’d become close over the past few weeks. The thought of losing another person sliced into my chest, gripping my heart so fiercely I begged for the pain to stop. I couldn’t handle another death, another loss. Not after what I’d been through in the last year.

I leaned against the wall in the ballroom, thick tears streaming down my cheeks. My legs shook so badly, Luca tried to hold me up, but I pushed him away. He’d done everything in his power to save me from his enemies. The Devil protected me from the demons at our doorstep. But when I was this upset, I craved silence and isolation. Marcello gave me those moments, let me steal as many as I needed to find comfort.

Marcello has to live.

After the medical response team lifted Marcello onto a stretcher, we followed them downstairs. The Devil’s Knights were already in the ballroom, helping a group of nurses and doctors assemble a mobile operating room. Within minutes, they transformed the elaborate room into a hospital ward. A plastic curtain hung from poles and stretched around the operating table, creating a clean environment. Well, clean enough, given the situation.

They moved Marcello to an operating table surrounded by beeping monitors and medical equipment. A nurse ran lines to his arms and placed monitors on his chest. Dressed in scrubs, my grandfather stood beside the table, his hand outstretched as a man handed him a scalpel, and then he went to work. The monitors buzzed so loudly my head pounded. My mind couldn’t process the events of the last hour.

A gunshot to the liver gave him about a thirty percent chance of survival, but Marcello was in good hands with Pops. Before his retirement, my grandfather was one of the top surgeons in the country. He’d even perfected a surgical method that won him awards and earned him lots of praise. But even with his skills, the mortality rate was high. So I prayed to the Devil again, begged him to let Marcello live.

I can’t lose him too.

Leaning forward, I cupped my knees with my hands and blew out a deep breath. In and out, I tried to steady my nerves. My heart raced so fast I thought it would break right through my chest.

Luca cupped my shoulder and whispered, “Calm down.”

“That’s the last thing you say to someone when they have a panic attack,” I shot back.

He tried to hug me, and I knocked his hand away. Luca had never been there for me when I needed him. He was usually the reason for my pain and suffering.

“Drea,” he groaned with a pissed-off expression scrolling across his tired face. “What the fuck is your problem? I’m just trying to help.”

“I don’t want or need your help, Luca.” I closed my eyes and breathed through my nose. Sweat slid down my forehead, dripping onto my eyelids, forcing me to blink a few times to clear my vision. “I have to work through this on my own.”

“If I were Marcello, you’d let me touch you,” he fired back.

He was right.

I would have flung myself into Marcello’s arms and allowed him to stroke his fingers through my hair. When I was with Marcello, I truly felt at peace. We had a special connection I’d only felt with my twin. Sure, I had an attachment to Luca, but we formed our bond out of hate, not love. Our mutual and shared traumas tied us together.

My emotions were so out of whack I needed someone to blame, someone to hate. Luca was the perfect scapegoat. He’d caused the worst moments in my life, but there were a few times when he’d shown me so much pleasure and joy. I wasn’t sure how I felt about either of the Salvatore brothers. Torn between two Devils, a piece of my heart belonged to each of them.

Luca bent down, his mouth inches from my ear, the heat from his breath warming my skin. “Do you have feelings for Marcello?”

I glanced up at him, tears clouding my vision, and wiped them away with the back of my hand. “Marcello might not live, and you’re worried about my feelings for him? Give me a break, Luca.”

He crossed his suit-clad arms over his chest and snarled at me. “I almost lost you today. My enemies won’t stop until they pry you from my dead hands. We’re at war, Drea, which means we need to be united.”
Fear shot down my arms as I moved through the ballroom, following the flow of the crowd. People whispered as I passed them. Rumors spread across the room like smoke in the wind. The Devil’s Creek elite offered fake smiles and pleasantries when our gazes met, pretended they weren’t talking about me.

“That’s Alexandrea Wellington,” a blonde woman said with her hand in front of her mouth, glancing at me out of the corner of her eye.

“She’s beautiful,” another woman commented. “But I heard she’s crazy like her mother.”

My cheeks flushed with heat. I considered correcting her but held my tongue. Pops had coached me before the party, warned me about the nosy townspeople. So I ignored them, keeping my ear to the ground as they gossiped.

The Salvatores hosted their annual Midsummer Night’s Dream party at the end of July. Everyone from the prestigious coastal community attended. And since the Wellingtons were among the founding families, it required me to play my part. So I would be the dutiful granddaughter for one night.

An hour ago, my grandfather had disappeared from the ballroom with Arlo Salvatore, leaving Aiden and me to fend for ourselves against the wolves. My grandmother drank flutes of champagne with her snotty friends, but I kept my distance. She made it clear she hated me. I didn’t know anyone in town, nor did I care to know any of them.

My brother pounded shots of Patrón as he muttered about everyone in Devil’s Creek being stupid rich fucks with no vision. Aiden said that about anyone who gave him shit for his street art, a hobby frowned upon by the masters of the universe. I eventually grew bored watching him drink himself into a coma, so I wandered off and got separated from Aiden.

“She’ll probably run like her mother,” a red-haired woman said about me, flicking her long locks over her shoulder. “The Salvatore men can’t keep the Wellington women around long enough to make an heir.”

A pretty blonde in her late forties tipped her head back and laughed. “If she’s anything like her mother, she won’t last until the wedding day.”

I craned my ear to listen, but the loud orchestra music drowned out their voices. Wedding? An heir? What the hell was she talking about?

Head down, I tugged on my carnival mask and pushed my way toward the ballroom entrance. My name was on everyone’s lips. They wanted to know why my grandfather had kept me hidden for the past eighteen years, why he’d waited to introduce me to his friends.

Men gawked at me, while women studied me with a mixture of curiosity and disdain. I knew when I wasn’t wanted somewhere, a lesson I had learned from my shitty parents. So I slipped out of the room and ventured down a long tiled hallway.

Expensive paintings donned the elaborate walls, everything from van Gogh to Metzinger, and I couldn’t help but study them with fascination. The ceiling was so high voices echoed and traveled with me, the sounds growing farther away as I approached the back of the estate. I ascended the long staircase, and though I knew not to pry, I needed to find my brother.

All night I’d dreamed of taking a walk on the beach with Aiden before heading back to Wellington Manor. Neither of us could stand our grandparents dressing us up like dolls, all for the sake of showing us off to their friends. I was on my best behavior all night, and I wanted nothing more than to strip off my heels and feel the sand between my toes.

As I tiptoed down the corridor, a chill rolled down my spine. I was barely dressed, the tulle skirt of my pixie costume riding up my ass. My grandmother had insisted I meet the Salvatore brothers in this ridiculous outfit. I looked like a perfectly wrapped present for them to open on Christmas morning. But they’d just stared at me as our families made the introductions.

Midway down the hallway, a flash of light seeped out from one bedroom. The door was open a crack, wide enough to see a tall, muscular man rip off his suit jacket. He had black hair, tanned skin, and a black and gold masquerade mask rested on his forehead. I watched as he stripped off his shirt and dropped the white oxford on the floor with a silk tie. My mouth fell open as I stared in disbelief at dozens of scars on his back.

A gasp ripped from my throat, and he spun around, nostrils flared. Luca Salvatore was the oldest of Arlo’s boys, heir to billions, and only a few years older than me. And possibly the most gorgeous creature I had ever seen in my life.
