Some temptations are just not worth the complication.

Victoria Hollingsworth does not need a surly, uncommunicative bodyguard cramping her style, following her everywhere, and intimidating any would-be male callers. She's a florist for goodness sake, not a princess or a pop star. Having a massive, mysterious bodyguard always hovering is an inconvenience. And yet... there he is, Tyler Chambers, her unwanted protector, ultra-serious, no-nonsense, and off-the-charts hot. Vicki doesn't want, or need, him as a bodyguard. Yet, disturbingly, he may be everything she wants, and needs, in a man.

Ty hates his current long-term assignment. It's mind-numbingly tedious. Vicki Hollingsworth is a pain in the butt who talks too much, laughs a lot, and frequently tests his patience. And her life isn't exactly filled with intrigue and action. Ty is ready for this job to be over. He has a couple of months left before reassignment. So close to being out of here he can taste it. The last thing he needs is to suddenly find his cute-as-a-button charge irresistibly attractive. She's not his type. Wholesome, adorable, and sweet, Vicki is the kind of woman who needs long-term commitment. And all Ty has to offer is a few short weeks of far-from-wholesome pleasure.

How much chaos can one little florist introduce into his regimented life? Ty is about to find out.

Books in Series:

Unprofessionally Yours Series by Natasha Anders

Books by Author:

Natasha Anders

Chapter One

He wouldn’t stop staring. It was unsettling. Even though Victoria—Vic or Vicki to family and friends—Hollingsworth had asked him to keep his distance, those unnervingly beautiful eyes remained trained on her.

And her friend was starting to notice.

“So that’s his job? He stares at you while you’re just living your life, doing your flower stuff? Eating? Entertaining? What about pooping and peeing? Is he there for that as well?” Bella, her best friend, asked while stirring her strawberry daiquiri with a curly straw.

Bella and her boyfriend had been temporarily working in Australia the last eighteen months and this was the first time she was around to witness Vicki’s new normal.

Vicki rolled her eyes and jabbed at her own drink—a frozen margarita—with a straw, trying to break up the tightly jammed ice at the bottom of her glass.

“I thought Miles would have come to his senses by now,” she said, referring to her older brother. “But it’s been more than a year, and he still insists that I need a bodyguard. It’s so embarrassing. And now that Miles is out of the country, he’s gotten even more overprotective. One little break in…”

“To be fair you said there had been other incidents in the neighborhood as well, Vic. And it wasn’t a break in, it was a store invasion. You were attacked.”

Vicki shuddered at the recollection. Last year, a couple of guys in balaclavas had stormed into her tiny flower shop in Kensington. They’d roughed up Vicki and her manager—Linda— before making off with all the cash in the register. The robbers had also taken their electronic devices, Vicki’s engraved silver locket—a twenty-first birthday present from her other brother, Hugh—and Linda’s charm bracelet. There had been similar incidents at other shops both before and after their robbery. But, thankfully, after a short crime spree, the culprits were caught and most of their valuables were recovered.

Yet Miles—seriously ill at the time—had freaked out and had sicced close protection officer, Tyler Chambers, on her. And Tyler took his job seriously—Vicki couldn’t even use a public restroom without him checking it out first. So embarrassing. And so very restrictive. Vicki hated the close scrutiny. It was invasive. But Miles refused to see reason.

“Yes, and I told him I’d be happy if he wanted to beef up my shop security or something. But nope, he insisted that I need personal protection practically 24/7.”

“What happens if you meet someone you want to…you know?” Bella pumped her index finger into the hole she’d created with the thumb and index finger of the opposite hand, and Vicki laughed and groaned at the same time.

“Please, it’s hard to meet a decent guy when you’ve got Mr. Strong-and-Silent floating around you like a bad smell at all times. I’ve been on a couple of dates but none of them ended well. And he practically drove Sullivan off.”

Okay, that was a little unfair. Her kind of ex—Sullivan didn’t believe in labels and had shunned the boyfriend title—had had one foot out the door for the entirety of their three month “relationship”. Vicki knew that he had mostly used the whole bodyguard thing as an excuse to bail. It also hadn’t escaped her notice that his interest in her had waned significantly once she’d stopped paying for his meals and drinks.

She hated it when Miles was right about the “freeloaders” she dated and had happily blamed Tyler’s intrusive presence for Sullivan’s departure.

“I don’t want to talk about him anymore. It’s bad enough having him around all day. I just want to catch up with my bestie tonight and have a fabulous time.”

“I’ll drink to that,” Bella agreed, setting aside her cocktail to lift the tequila shot she had ordered earlier, waiting for Vicki to lift hers. Vicki eyed the drink askance—she wasn’t too big on straight, hard liquor, and she didn’t often get wasted. Then her eyes drifted back to where Tyler sat. For once his attention wasn’t on her, he was scanning the crowd grimly.

What the hell? Might as well take advantage of having a bodyguard. It was actually kind of reassuring to know that she could let loose for a change and be perfectly safe.

She lifted her shot glass and her friend’s smile widened.

Bella licked a sprinkle of salt off the back of her hand and twinkled at Vicki, her eyes shining, her teeth gleaming, a spark of the familiar mischief that Vicki had missed so much, in her eyes.

“Cheers, all m’dears,” she began, and Vicki laughed before joining in, “We don’t have no fears. So, kick up the gears and bring on the beers!”

They squealed and threw back their shots before sucking on the provided lemon slices with matching grimaces.

“Pubmeister, another round if you please,” Bella commanded the barkeeper, with a soggy grin, her eyes streaming after the shot, and the young man complied immediately.
A second shot at love. Her best next chance at happiness.
After years of torment and pain, Charity Cole feels safe again. The isolated house within which she lives and works is her haven. But her sanctuary is invaded when her icy, reserved boss shows up unannounced. He sees her as he was never meant to see her and Charity’s carefully constructed safe world begins to crumble.

Miles Hollingsworth is a stone cold workaholic. His life revolves around his company and when ill health forces him to take time off he heads to his holiday home where he knows he won’t have to deal with anyone but his dour live-in housekeeper, Mrs. Cole. Cut off by violent winter storms and alone in the huge and isolated house, Miles and Charity are forced to spend more time together than they have before.

The attraction between them burns fiercely and uncontrollably but both are reluctant to act on it. Something has to give but both Charity and Miles have too much at stake to be the first one to break.

Books by Author:

Natasha Anders

The shroud of darkness was accompanied—as always—by a terrifying inevitability. Each excruciating exhalation left her with even less air in her lungs. And while she fought to breathe, he was right there, applying ever more pressure.

His sinister voice promised, “Tonight’s the night you die, Charity.”

No!

The panic and helplessness were familiar companions as she clawed her way back to the light.

Charity awoke with a gasp and immediately kicked off the suffocating, restrictive bedcovers. Her nightgown was soaked through with sweat, her hair drenched, and she shivered uncontrollably. She swallowed down the small, distressed sounds coming from the back of her throat while she fought to regulate her breathing.

“Get yourself together.” She hated the woman she became every time she had this nightmare. “It’s over. You’re okay. You’re safe.”

She counted to ten, first in English, then in French and then—just for the hell of it—in Japanese, until she was sure she had a handle on her emotions. It was an odd quirk of hers; that ability to count to a hundred in several different languages, none of which she could actually speak or truly understand.

“He can’t hurt you,” she told herself. “He can’t hurt you. He’s gone. He can’t hurt you.” Some nights it took longer than others to convince herself of that fact. But it was easier tonight. Perhaps because she hadn’t been asleep very long.

She got out of bed, dragged her nightgown over her head and dumped it on

the hardwood floor, before padding, naked, to the en suite. The sweat dried rapidly as the cold air hit her overheated flesh. She was still shivering uncontrollably as she stepped beneath the punishingly hot spray of her shower.

The nightmare would be back, maybe not tonight or tomorrow, but eventually.

It was inescapable.

Absolute rest.

That was what the doctor had ordered. Which was bullshit. Miles Henry Hollingsworth wasn’t a man who could sit on his arse and do nothing all day long. But his mother and sister had been concerned, and he knew that they would badger him endlessly if he didn’t take that prescribed “mental and physical” break. Miles was a bloody weakling when it came to denying the two most important women in his life.

Which was why he had finished any outstanding business and left his COO,

Bryan Yoshida, in charge of Hollingsworth Holdings Inc. Miles’s younger brother, a recently promoted junior exec, would assist Bryan. Hugh was eager to grow and learn, but Miles had been reluctant to give him more responsibility. Not because the young man was incompetent, but because Miles had a hard time ceding even the slightest control to anyone else. Bryan was Miles’s most trusted friend and colleague. The man would be a patient and wise mentor to Hugh.

Consequently, Miles had boarded the corporate jet and fourteen hours later, here he was, at his isolated holiday home on the Garden Route in the Western Cape of South Africa. It was after three in the morning, pouring with rain and colder than a witch’s tit, but the weather suited his mood. He could have followed the sun and gone to his villa on the Amalfi Coast, but the Western Cape in winter was exactly what he was looking for. He knew the nearby tourist town would be quiet at this time of year, and he would be alone but for the staff he kept on retainer.

The only individuals with whom he would have to interact would be Amos Moloi, the gardener; his driver, George Clark; and the dour live-in housekeeper, Mrs. Cole. The woman had worked and lived there for nearly three years, and nobody knew much about her other than she kept to herself for the most part, got her work done almost as if by magic, and excelled at wish fulfilment. No matter how crazy the request, Mrs. Cole could arrange it.

Recommended by his attorney, the woman was a gem, and Miles guarded her jealously. This house was more hers than his. She lived here full-time, while he visited once or twice—if he was lucky—a year. There really was no need to have her here all year round but for the fact that Miles was afraid he’d lose her to a better position if he offered her only part-time employment. He’d rather pay her handsomely and retain her services full-time than lose her. When he found someone he could trust to do a job the way he wanted it done, he’d move heaven and earth to secure their loyalty.

He had forgotten to let her know he was coming, but he had faith that Mrs. Cole wouldn’t miss a step. The house would be fully stocked and operational in no time at all.

God, he was exhausted.

His arrival to the house was quiet and there was no sign of Mrs. Cole when he disabled the alarm and stepped into the dark kitchen from the basement garage. While Miles thought nothing of waking her, he didn’t feel like interacting with anyone at the moment and wanted to avoid her till morning.
