When Mia Allenton’s sister calls, asking her for help after finding out her husband cheated, Mia packs up her life in Montana and moves to Tennessee to be there for her and her three girls. As Mia begins to settle in, a tornado comes through, bringing along with it Talon Mayson, a man determined to prove to her that good men do exist.

Talon knows he’s got his work cut out for him when it comes to earning Mia’s trust, but slowly her walls start to crumble, and they begin to build something beautiful. Unfortunately, someone from Talon’s past isn’t happy about him being back in Tennessee, and they’re willing to do anything to prevent him from ever being happy.
Is the Boom between Talon and Mia strong enough to weather the storm that’s coming?

I TAP MY pen against the top of my desk as I watch the couple across the room argue. The man shaking his head, the woman waving a hand around, while the little boy on her hip kicks his tiny feet to get down so he can run around with his two sisters currently playing a game of tag. I’ve been working with Annie and Sam for a month. Every single week, they come in, ask me to take them for a test drive, and have me run numbers on the minivan Annie has her eye on, and every week, they leave after arguing for twenty minutes. If Annie had her way, they would be driving home today in her new car. If Sam had his way, his wife would stop bugging him for a new car and be happy with the hooptie she currently owns, and then she’d hand over the down payment she saved, so he could get the truck he’s been eyeing.

If I were Annie, I would tell Sam to shove it and get myself a new car and maybe a new man.

“What do you think the chances are they’re going to buy today?” my sales manager Ken asks, leaning his hip against my desk while crossing his arms over his chest, watching the couple across the room.

“She won’t pull the trigger unless he gives her the go-ahead. So I’d say it’s not going to happen,” I admit, looking at her dream ruby-red hybrid minivan on my computer screen. I wish she would put her foot down and tell him that she deserves a new car. She’s the one in the relationship who makes the money, and she’s still kicking ass at being a mom. If the roles were reversed and he was the breadwinner, she would tell him to get a new truck or whatever he wanted.

But that’s the difference between men and women. We women are always bending and breaking to take care of the people we love, and that isn’t always reciprocated. Maybe in another hundred years things will actually change.

A hand rests on my shoulder, and I look up at Ken. “Tell her I’ll give her three thousand toward her down payment. Maybe that will help sway her,” he says before pushing off my desk. “I’m gonna go get lunch. Want anything?”

“No, thanks. I brought lunch with me,” I tell him, and he dips his chin before walking away. I watch him go while letting out a breath. I never thought I’d be selling cars, but then again, I never thought I’d be living in Tennessee. I moved here after my sister called, telling me that she needed me after her husband confessed to cheating and she kicked him out of the house. I came thinking I’d be here for a few weeks, I’d help my sister get situated, and then go back to Montana. That was six months ago.

The first month, I used up my savings, because Cece was behind on bills, and a roof over your head, electricity, and food are kind of a necessity. My second month, I knew I needed a job, but my CNA license wasn’t easily transferable, so I applied anywhere and everywhere. Back home, I worked at an assisted living facility and had no sales experience whatsoever. Still, Ken took a chance on me and offered me a job, and surprisingly, I’ve done okay for myself.

The sound of thunder pulls me from my thoughts, and I get up from behind my desk. I’m not sure any amount of money will change Annie’s mind, but it won’t hurt to let her know about Ken’s offer. I head across the tile floor and cringe when I hear Sam hiss at Annie for being stupid about wanting such an expensive car. “Annie? Sam?” I cut in, and they both turn to look at me—Annie with a forced smile, Sam with the same pout on his face his son is currently sporting. “My boss just wanted me to let you know he’s willing to give you three thousand toward your down payment,” I say then smile down at one of their daughters as she uses me to protect herself from her sister.
Cobi Mayson knows exactly who Hadley is to him the moment he sees her for the very first time. That doesn’t mean it will be easy for him to convince her to take a chance on him.

Hadley Emerson knows she could fall hard and fast for a guy like Cobi. A man who seems to show up every time she needs him, but she knows better than to just hand over her heart.

Knowing his future with Hadley is on the line, Cobi begins to tie their lives together. As the invisible rope that connects them tightens and things between them heat up, an unknown threat emerges threatening to to take away their happily ever after and send them both into darkness.

“DO YOU KNOW HER, Mayson?” my partner Frank asks, studying me and the woman in my arms. His shaggy brows are drawn tightly together in confusion over his blue eyes.

I want to roar, “Yeah, I fucking know her. She’s mine!” but that would sound ridiculous, because it is fucking ridiculous. I don’t know anything about the woman I’m holding besides the fact that her first name is Hadley, she smells like peaches, and she feels perfect against me, even if she is passed out.

“She yours?”

“No,” I growl, my teeth grinding together as my hold on her tightens.

Getting closer, Frank drops his voice. “Then maybe you wanna stop fucking growling anytime one of them—” He jerks his thumb over his shoulder. “—tries to touch her, and let them do their job.”

I frown and look past him, noticing the three paramedics standing around me looking unsure and nervous. I don’t want to—as in really fucking don’t want to—let Hadley go, but I know I need to. She has a cut on her forehead that hasn’t stopped bleeding, and bruising under her jaw. I jerk up my chin, and one of the paramedics comes forward. I must make a noise, because his head flies my way when he touches her and his eyes widen with fear when they meet mine.

Fuck.

My jaw clenches as I force myself to relax and release her, and I watch with my breath locked in my chest as she’s placed on a stretcher. It takes every ounce of self-control I possess to not go after her, to not reach out and touch her again just to prove she’s real. As they load her in the back of the ambulance, I wrap my hand around the back of my neck. I want to go with them to make sure she’s okay, but I can’t. I have a crime scene that needs to be locked down and a dead body in the woods behind me that needs to be dealt with. The good thing is, since I’m a cop, I won’t have a problem tracking Hadley down, even if she’s released from the hospital tonight before I can get to her.

“What the fuck was that about?” Frank questions from my side as the ambulance doors shut and the lights go on.

I don’t look at him. I run my fingers through my hair and shake my head. “Nothing.”

“You sure you don’t know her?”

“I don’t know her,” I mumble then look around. “Let’s get this shit sorted.”

“Fuck.” Frank looks around the mostly dark woods and at the other officers milling about. “It’s going to be a long night. I need to call the wife to let her know I won’t be home for a while.”

“When you’re done with that, meet me at the body,” I say, and he jerks up his chin before walking off. I grab a flashlight from one of the cruisers then head into the woods to get to work. When I got the call from dispatch informing me that a woman called 911 saying she witnessed an unconscious woman being dumped into the trunk of a car outside the local movie theater, I had no idea the unconscious woman was my cousin Harmony. Not until her sister Willow called to say Harmony hadn’t returned from the restroom, where she had gone during the movie they were watching.

After Willow’s call, I had dispatch connect me to Hadley, who was the one who witnessed my cousin’s kidnapping. She was following the car, and I was close behind her—just not close enough. After she informed me that the car turned off the road, I told her that she should keep driving, that the other officers and I were closing in and would be there, but she didn’t listen. Instead, she hung up and kept following. From what I learned, she ended up running for her life along with Harmony, who had somehow managed to escape the trunk of the car she was in. They both barely escaped death at the hands of a madman who was aiming a gun at them in the middle of the woods.

When I make it to the body, which is now covered in a white sheet, I know Frank was right. It’s going to be a long fucking night. Only, unlike him, I have no one to call to tell I won’t be home.

Four and a half hours later, the crime scene guys leave along with the coroner, and I catch a ride back to the station with Frank, where I pick up my truck before heading to the hospital. When I arrive, I check in at the nurses’ station and ask about Hadley. I find out she suffered a concussion and that the doctors are keeping her overnight just to be on the safe side.

After being told she’s resting, I go check on my cousin Harmony, who is out of surgery with our family gathered around her. I talk to my family and Harmony’s fiancé Harlen for a few minutes, making sure they’re good before I go to Hadley’s room. It’s across the hospital, and when I reach her door, I walk straight in, expecting to see her family gathered around her, but the room is empty except for the bed, where I can make out her form under the covers.

Kimberly vowed to protect her heart from Sage, but when her sister is murdered and her world starts to fall apart, he’s the one person she finds herself leaning on. Getting a second chance is something Sage knows is rare. He’s not going to squander the one he’s been given, and he won’t take no for an answer when it comes to making Kim his.

Science says it only takes four minutes to fall in love with someone.

I didn’t believe that was true, until I met Sage Mayson.

Kim

HEARING A thump, thump, thump, the steering wheel in my hands jerks hard to the left, making me squeak as my car swerves into the oncoming traffic lane. Getting the car back under control, I slow down as it bounces, letting me know I have a flat.

“Great! Just flipping great.” I pull carefully off the road and onto the shoulder, flipping on my hazards as I put the car in park. Grabbing my cell from my purse sitting in the passenger seat, I curse to myself once more when I see the battery is just about to die. “You should have stayed in bed,” I mutter under my breath, but then I think about the baby blue suede bag I scored for seventy percent off from the underground sale I went to and remember instantly why getting out of bed this morning was so totally worth it.

Scanning through the contacts in my cell, I find the number for AAA and press call then put the phone on speaker. “Thank you for calling triple A. Your call may be monitored. Please press one for—”

The phone dies in my hand, and I let out a growl of annoyance. Dropping the now useless piece of crap into the cup holder, I check for traffic and then get out of the car, slamming the door behind me. Checking both tires on the driver’s side, I see both are good, so I move around to the back and drop my hands to my sides. The back right tire is not only flat, but shredded. There is no way I can drive on it without doing major damage to my car.

Resting my hands on my hips, I scan the road to see if there’s anyone coming, but the street is completely dead. “Looks like you’re on your own.” I’ve never changed a tire in my life, so I have no idea what the hell I’m going to do, but hopefully I can figure it out.

Going to the trunk, I open it up and pull out the bottom floorboard, where I locate both a spare and a jack. Taking out the jack, I set it on the ground then spend ten minutes trying to unlock the screws for the tire, which seem impossible to remove. Feeling tears of frustration burn the backs of my eyes, I lean into the trunk, resting my forehead on the edge of the spare tire. “This sucks.”

“Need some help?” a voice asks from behind me. Startled, I jump up, bumping my head on trunk lid, and then quickly pull myself up to stand. Holding the top of my head, I spin around feeling lightheaded. “You okay?”

“I…” Blinking, my mouth runs dry. “Um….” I stare at the guy in front of me, trying to get my mouth and brain to work in unison. Hot is the only word filtering through my head as I take him in. He’s probably six-two, if not taller, long and lean, with broad shoulders, a tapered waist, and skin that shows he’s a mixture of something beautiful. Smirking, his full lips tip up ever so slightly, making me realize I’m staring at him and still haven’t answered his question.

Shaking away my sudden stupidity, I mutter, “My tire blew.”

“You got a spare?” The deep timber of his voice slides over my skin as he steps closer, giving me a full dose of his presence.

I was wrong; hot isn’t the right word. I don’t think there’s one in the English language to properly describe him. Long, thick lashes make his unusual gray-green eyes stand out. His jaw is angled, hard, and his nose crooks a little to the left, but even with that imperfection, nothing could take away from his beauty.

“Yeah, I have a spare, but I can’t get it out of the trunk.” I give myself a silent pat on the back for putting together a full sentence without stuttering. As he comes even closer to me, I jump as his hand wraps around my hip, and he moves me to the side, away from the road.

“Let me take a look.” His head disappears into the trunk, and two seconds later, he stands holding the tire I couldn’t get out moments ago.

“How did you do that?”

“You have to push down on the tire while you loosen the bolt.”

“They should really print that on the tire or something,” I say, feeling my nose scrunch up, and he smiles, showing off a dimple in his right cheek that makes my stomach feel full and melty. Jesus, whoever this guy is, he’s dangerous to the world’s female population.

Dropping the spare to the ground near the back tire, he grabs the jack and puts it in place. “Do you know how to change a tire?”
