Ever since a traumatic brain injury changed his life, Colter James has kept to himself.
He doesn’t do small talk. Doesn’t do crowds.
And certainly doesn’t do women.

When my sleazy ex starts causing trouble,
Colter shows up like a storm—dark, dangerous, and hell bent on protecting me. Even if it means breaking all of his rules.

Now he’s stepping into my world—
one quiet gesture, one lingering glance at a time.
I can’t deny I want more.

More of his guarded kindness.
More of the man he swears he can’t be.

He says he’s not worth the risk.
But what if losing him is the biggest risk of all?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

POPPY

He’s watching me… again.

It would be one thing if he was doing it with interest or even just an acknowledgement, but it’s not like that. It’s like he has a permanent scowl on his face, and it’s directed at me the whole time.

After the morning I’ve had, I’m over it, and I’m barely able to contain myself.

I am representing Glaze Bakery. I can’t tell off customers. I chant the little reminder to myself, but the little devil on my shoulder reminds me that this guy is not a customer. He’s always here when we set up the food truck, but he’s never bought anything.

He always just sits there, peeking at me over his computer, scowling.

“You okay?” Teresa nudges me in the ribs.

I grunt in response. How else should I respond? I had to deal with my ex at the Co-op location this morning, and now I have to deal with the scowling asshole at the Heroes Rehab Center. I can’t seem to catch a break.

Teresa puts a hand on my shoulder. “Look, forget about Adam. He’s an asshole, and everyone knows it.”

I put a hand on my hip. “I’m not mad at Adam. I’m mad at myself. I broke up with him because he treated me like shit, and I hate that even now, I’m letting him keep doing it. I should have said something. I should have….”

Teresa holds her hand up. “Look, don’t beat yourself up about it. That’s the last thing you should be doing.”

I suck in a deep breath. “I know, but the food truck is new for Glaze, and I don’t want to cause any drama around it. Emery is counting on me and—”

Teresa stomps her foot. “Emery would not want you to let any man disrespect you.”

I suck in a breath and let it out slowly. “You’re right. I know you’re right.” I nod my head toward the back of the picnic tables. “See that guy?”

She looks around the tables, and the sassy Teresa that I’ve come to love is back in full force. “There’s like fifteen men sitting out there, and yeah, I’ve looked at them all. This is my favorite location by far.”

She’s wiggling her eyebrows, and even in the bad mood I’m in, I can’t stop the laugh from coming out. “You’re crazy.”

She nods her head in agreement. “Yeah, I am. Now tell me which guy. You hookin’ up? Because you know that’s what you need to do, right? You need to get laid.”

As soon as she says the words, there’s a giggle at the window. I push Teresa to the side. “I’m so sorry that you had to hear that. What can I get you?”

The curvy brown-haired woman looks up at me with amused brown eyes. “I’ll take a chocolate croissant and an iced coffee, please.”

Almost awkwardly, I start the coffee while Teresa disappears. Of course, she’s going to go hide right now. When I have the order ready, I hand it through the window. “That will be seven-fifty.”

She taps her card to pay and doesn’t immediately walk away. “I’m Brooklyn,” she says, introducing herself.

My face flames. Everyone in Whiskey Run knows Walker. He owns half the damn town, including the Heroes Rehab Center. Brooklyn is his wife. I knew who she was as soon as I saw her, and if there’s anyone that I’d want to make a good impression on, it’s her. “I know. I’m Poppy. It’s nice to meet you.”

She opens her mouth, and I can’t stop myself from rambling. “Anyway, I want to apologize. I promise that we’ll keep things professional here, and I don’t want you or your husband to worry. All professional from here on out.”

She sets her coffee down and pinches off a bite of the croissant. After chewing and swallowing, she nods. “I’m not worried. Everyone loves when Glaze stops by.” She waves her hand behind her at the group of men and women behind her. “And Walker is happy you’re here because then I don’t have to go into town to get my daily dose of caffeine. I told Emery if you can add more stops here to your calendar we would love it, and I’ll make sure the center is aware.”
My one night stand is back in town.

I thought Elias was the one.
After only one night in his arms, he captured my heart.
Promises were made.
But none were kept.
Because my broody, military hero disappeared.

Five years later, I’ve moved on.
At least that’s what I tell myself when Elias shows up again.

He’s not the same man.
He’s scarred, withdrawn and stalks me from afar.
I want to hate him,
But his effect on me is the same.

I shouldn’t want him.
I definitely shouldn’t give him a second chance.
But these two pink lines prove I never stood a chance at resisting him.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

Elias

I’m surrounded by the men I work with, and they are talking all around me, but I’m completely focused on the beautiful blonde. It’s amazing what you can find out from people in a small town.

Her name is Chloe, she’s twenty-two years old, and she lives in the home she inherited from her grandmother, who passed away six months ago. She’s a trainer at the gym in town called Work It Out, and she’s not seeing anyone.

I’ve seen her around a few times, mostly because I’ve made a point to see her. I’ve bought her a coffee and pastry at the Sugar Glaze Bakery, I’ve watched her through the big bay windows of her gym on Main Street, and I’ve seen her here at the Whiskey Whistler before, but I’ve made sure to keep my distance. I’m leaving Whiskey Run soon, but when I get back into town, I’m going to make a point to get to know her better.

Until then, I’ll be counting down the hours, and I’m going to stalk her from afar.

She’s sitting with her friend, drinking her Long Island Iced Tea, and I’m captivated by the way she laughs. Her happiness is contagious, and as I’m smiling, I’m getting roasted by my friends for not just going to talk to her already.

Everything is fine. We’re all having a good time when two cowboys walk up to Chloe and her friend. They’re both flirting with Chloe, trying to edge the other one out, and everything happens so fast that I’m across the room as Chloe’s friend lands on the ground and Chloe is standing over her.

The friend is holding her head. “I’m okay.”

Chloe gasps. “You’re okay? Cassie, you just tried to break up a bar fight. I think you’re far from okay.”

I’m staring at Chloe, ready to throw her over my shoulder and get her out of here.

“What even happened?” the woman that Chloe called Cassie asks.

“The one asshole pushed the other asshole, and he grabbed on to you and took you down with him.” I answer her, even though I can’t take my eyes off Chloe.

“I’ll get you some ice,” I tell Cassie, while giving a look to the guys to keep an eye on Chloe. They know exactly what I’m asking, and after I get a nod from them, I go up to the bar to get ice.

By the time I get back, Cassie is sitting on a chair, some guys are holding the two men that were fighting, and Chloe is hovering over her friend.

I hand the ice to Chloe, and she gives it to Cassie.

Chloe looks over my shoulder. “Uh, the police are here.”

I turn and see my friend Baker coming through the door. He’s watching the woman seated, and I position myself closer to Chloe.

They talk about pressing charges, and after a lot of back and forth, Baker convinces the woman to let him take her home. I turn to them. “And don’t worry about Chloe. I can make sure she gets home.”

She nods in agreement, but as soon as Baker is out the door with her friend, she turns to me. “You don’t have to babysit me. I can find my own way home.”

“I would rather hang with you, but if you want to be by yourself, that’s fine too. Just know when you leave, I’ll be making sure you get home safe.”

She tilts her head to the side and looks up at me. “So you do want to spend time with me?”

I bite my lip before I say something over the top and tell her all the things I want to do with her and scare her off. “Yeah.”

She shrugs. “Well, that surprises the heck out of me because I’ve seen you around… you’ve bought me coffee and food, even followed me around town a little… but you never talk to me.”

I could make up something, sound a little more mysterious, but I come clean. “I’m leaving on a mission tomorrow. I thought I’d wait until I came back before I made my move.”

She smiles cheekily up at me. “That doesn’t sound very smart on your part.”

“Oh yeah? Why’s that?”

“What if you leave tomorrow and then I meet my knight in shining armor next week? We would never know what could have been between us.”
Still when she comes to me for help, I can’t refuse her. Which means sleeping on my sofa so she can take my bed.

Emerson is temptation personified. Giving into my desires and touching her would make me the worst sort of man.

But everyone has their limits. Being constantly around her delicious curves proves to be my undoing. She should be forbidden fruit, but I don’t care anymore. I want her and I’m going to make her mine.

The Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series is about a group of wounded ex-mercenaries. They each have their own battles they’re fighting but with the love of a woman, they no longer have to do it alone. Unbreakable Bond is a wounded hero, Curvy woman, age gap, dad’s best friend, all the feels, small town romance. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

KANAN

I’m jealous. There’s no other way to explain it. Seeing big ol’ grumpy-ass Davis smiling and happy as his bride-to-be walks down the aisle to him causes a pang in my chest. I reach up and rub my palm over my heart because it hits me fast. It feels like a kick, and it catches me off guard. It takes me a minute to remember I’m standing in the front of the room, right next to the groom, and I slowly lower my hand down to my side, trying not to draw any attention to myself.

There is no hesitation for Davis. As soon as Abby is within reach, he grabs her and draws her into him. The way they’re looking at each other seems too private to witness, and I pull my eyes off them, but it doesn’t help any. I’m right across from Olivia. She’s the maid of honor and also the girlfriend of my friend, Jason. Instead of watching the bride and groom, her eyes are on Jason, who’s standing right next to me. It’s obvious to everyone they are in love. I gave Jason some shit earlier because as Davis' best man, I’m supposed to dance with the maid of honor. When I told him the song we’re dancing to is eight minutes long, I was pretty sure he was going to throat punch me.

The ceremony is fast, and when it’s over, I escort Olivia down the aisle, but as soon as we’re to the end, she’s leaving me for Jason. “Sorry, Kanan.”

I laugh and shake my head. “It’s fine. Trust me, the last thing we need is Jason losing his cool, and I think he will if I have you on my arm much longer.” I point at him. “Look, he’s so mad.”

Olivia laughs, and Jason turns to us. He may not be able to see, but he is one hundred percent attuned with anything Olivia.

She walks over to him, and I watch as Jason opens his arms to her, the lucky son of a gun. I let out a deep breath. All I have to do is make it through the reception with a smile plastered to my face, and then I can go back to my little cabin, have a beer, and do my best to not think about the past.

I walk over to the edge of the room and lean against the wall. Everyone is laughing and talking around me, but I might as well be alone. The reception hall is next door, and guests are leaving the church to walk over. I know I should go be with the rest of the bridal party, but I need a few minutes to try and collect myself. Socializing is hard, and I think I’ve done more of it today than I have in the last two years put together.

I try to take it all in. I never would have believed this was possible for any of us. My friends and I were on a mission, and our friend was killed, leaving the rest of us injured in one way or another. We shouldn’t have even survived that day, but here we are.

Davis is now married.

I’m pretty sure Jason and Olivia will be next.

Jason hollers for me, and my time to reflect is over. I make my way back over to the crowd, and it’s time for more pictures. I smile, and we all do as we’re told because none of us want to upset an excited Abby.

As soon as the photographer dismisses the bridal party but keeps the bride and groom, we make our getaway.

As the bride and groom smile for more pictures, I walk toward the reception area. I find the guys there, all of them standing against the wall, each of them with a beer already in their hands.

“You doing okay?” Elias asks.

He gestures to my arm, and I realize that I’m rubbing the knots out of my forearm with my other hand. I grimace and force myself to let go. “Yeah, sure, I’m good. You okay?”

Elias nods once and then turns away. He looks about as happy as I am to be here. Elias hates being out in public more than any of us. He’s extremely self-conscious with the scars on his face, and it’s obvious he doesn’t want to be here, but just like the rest of us, he’s here for our friend. “You know the pain may not be as bad if you didn’t bench so heavy. You lift weights like you have something to prove.”

I just shrug. Elias is right. I know he is. The doctor has said the same thing. I’m pushing the muscles in my arm too hard too fast, but for a year, I couldn’t do anything with my arm. Once I was able to do something, I took it to the limits. Yeah, sometimes my arm goes numb, and it freaks me out when it happens, but I’m not going to stop.
Curvy Divorcee and the Wounded Hero. Together in an against all odds romance. When you’re on a date with one man and get a text from another.
“Don’t let him touch you tonight. You’re mine and I don’t share…” After I’m finally free from my cheating ex-husband, I am not looking for another failed forever.
Nope, I’m a footloose and fancy-free kind of woman.
That is until I meet Jason Hawk. I’m immediately drawn to the wounded military man, but he thinks he’s too damaged for me. He’s spent the last two years believing he’d regain his sight. But when he discovers there’s no cure for his blindness, he’s ready to walk away to give me my freedom. I’m ready for something else.
For the first time in a long time, I want to give something–someone–my all.
I just hope I’m enough. The Whiskey Wounded Heroes series is about a group of wounded ex-mercenaries. They each have their own battles they’re fighting but with the love of a woman, they no longer have to do it alone. Dark obsession is a wounded hero, Curvy divorcee, later in life, possessive, all the feels, small town romance. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

JASON

I’m completely on edge, and I hate this feeling. I was once the most confident man in the room, but I hate what I’ve become. My hands are fisting at my sides. I clench, feeling my nails digging into the skin of my palm and enjoying the pain of it for just a brief second, and then I unclench. I do it over and over until I have to force myself to stop. I never know if someone is looking at me, but it feels like I’m always under a microscope. That’s why every step I make is slow and calculated. I’m never spontaneous anymore, no sudden movements, and now every time I go out, it is planned and thought out before I even walk out my door.

“Relax, it’s a haircut,” Davis says. It’s probably the tenth time he’s tried to calm me since he and his fiancée, Abby, picked me up at my apartment. “It’s past time. Nobody would believe by looking at us that we were once part of Walker’s elite mercenary team.”

I run my hand through my hair, and it does feel longer than I ever remember it being. I know from hearing the guys at the compound talk that Davis needs a haircut too. I think after the guys gave him crap this week, he gave in and decided it was time to trim his hair. I wouldn’t mind keeping mine. I can give two shits what names the guys call me, but I really don’t have to worry about it. You’re a real asshole if you make fun of the blind guy, so they don’t give me too much shit.

I suck in a breath. Blind. It’s been two years, and I swear I’ve almost forgotten what the sunrise looks like. My mind plays tricks with me, and when I dream, I dream of everything—the good, the bad, and the things that I would give anything to forget. But as soon as I wake up, I realize that my life is worse than the nightmare I had the night before because once where there was light, all there is now is darkness.

“Shit… I mean shoot. I got it. It’s just a haircut.”

I feel Abby’s soft elbow hit me in the side before she threads her arm in mine. I know she’s doing it to help me avoid knocking into something. If it was one of the guys, I’d probably run my mouth, but there’s no way I’d risk hurting her feelings, so I zip my lips.

Abby giggles. “You’re lucky Alexis isn’t here today. She’d have you putting money in her swear jar.”

Davis chuckles. “I swear the girl is going to be able to buy that new bike she wants by the end of the month if she keeps it up.”

“You mean if you keep it up. You’re the one with the potty mouth who can’t stop swearing,” Abby admonishes him.

I walk down the sidewalk listening to Davis and Abby go back and forth. I have my mobility cane in one hand and Abby with her arm threaded through my other. I don’t have to see Davis’ face to know he doesn’t like it. He’s protective of Abby, and I can’t say I blame him. I don’t have to see her to know she’s something special.

“This is ridiculous,” I mutter, expressing my opinion again.

Abby lets me go, and Davis grips my elbow. “Come on, dude. We are past time to get our hair cut. Walker told us both that we needed to tighten this up.”

Abby’s voice sounds in front of me. “I’m not going to lie. I’m going to miss the long hair.”
Curvy Single Mom and the Wounded Hero. Together in a brother's best friend romance.

She’s my best friend’s little sister.
A single mom who doesn’t have time to waste on an older, wounded, ex-mercenary.
She’s off limits.

And yet, I still move to her hometown.

I blame it on the job offer and the therapy I get at one of the top rehab centers for wounded heroes.
The truth though … I came to Whiskey Run because Abby Campbell, and her daughter are here.

You see, once upon a time I was a man lost.
Lost in pain. Lost in addiction.
Abby’s sweet face is how I climbed out of the black hole I’d been surviving in since my accident.

I’ve traded one addiction for another though and despite how much I love her, I know I might not be enough.
I might not be the man she needs… no matter how much I want to be.

The Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series is about a group of wounded ex-mercenaries. They each have their own battles they’re fighting but with the love of a woman, they no longer have to do it alone. Sweet Addiction is a wounded hero, single mom, brother’s best friend, age gap, small town romance. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

ABBY

I’m sitting in the driver's seat looking up at apartment 1C, debating on whether I should get out of my car or not. I can see the front door clearly from my spot on the side of the road. There are no flowerpots or rocking chairs on the porch. There’s not a welcome mat in front of the door, and the window shades are drawn closed, not allowing the sun to shine in or anyone to see out. There’s nothing that says I should be walking up there and knocking on the closed door.

But that’s exactly what I need to do.

I grip the steering wheel until my fingers turn white, and I force myself to loosen my grip. This is not a big deal. Davis Jones is my older brother’s best friend. They served in the Army together for years until they went to a private organization. Davis has come to my family’s house when he was on leave plenty of times. Well, he did until two years ago. He hasn’t been there since he was hurt.

When my brother called me from some unknown location in the Middle East to tell me that Davis was in Whiskey Run, I didn’t believe him. He’s often teased me about the tiny crush I had on his best friend, and I thought it was all a joke. At least until he told me that Davis really is living just a few miles down the road from me and is working at the Heroes Rehab Center. Two years ago, Davis lost his leg in an explosion, and I haven’t seen him since. Not because I didn’t want to see him. Damn, I wanted to see him more than anything, but I also knew that I was just Zach’s little sister, and Davis didn’t need—or want—me around.

He was across the U.S. then, but now, with him in my hometown, I don’t have an excuse. He’s literally five minutes from my house, and there’s no way I’m going to let another day go on without at least checking in on him. I may tell myself I’m doing it for my brother, but a big part of me knows that I’m doing it for me. I need to see him.

I get out of my old but trusty SUV and stand in front of the building. “One foot in front of the other,” I mutter before I slowly make my way up the sidewalk that leads to his apartment.

When I get to the small porch, I take a deep breath and knock on the door before stepping back and waiting for any kind of noise from the other side.

I’m already looking for reasons to walk away, convincing myself I can try again another day when there’s a thud on the other side of the door and then suddenly it swings open. For just a second, I stand here with my mouth hanging open. My first thought is he’s a lot bigger than I remember. He towers over me, and I have to lean my head back to look at him. His shoulders are broad, filling the doorway. His jaw is pulled tight, and his gaze narrows as he stares back at me. His hair is long and wavy, covering part of his face. It’s nothing like the buzz cut he’s worn since I first met him.

When he continues to frown at me, I’m about to apologize and leave because it’s obvious he’s not happy I’m here. “Hey, Davis…”

Before I can get the whole sentence out, he steps out of the door and onto the porch with me. This close, he’s even bigger, and I suck in a deep breath as his fresh and clean scent fills my nose. He’s still not smiling, but his face softens, and he whispers my name. “Abby.”
