I’m fake dating the boss of the Zarkov Bratva—what could possibly go wrong?

Lev Zarkov is a real-life monster.

No, correction, he’s actually the devil.

Except, when I first meet him, he’s simply the mysterious, handsome man traveling next to me on a first class flight to New York.

And after being dumped at the altar by my loser fiancé, who vanished into thin air the morning of our wedding, when things get flirty between me and the mysterious stranger, I think why not?

Surely, I deserve one night to forget. I mean, where’s the harm in a little indulgence, right?

I’ll tell you exactly where the harm is. It turns out my one night stand is not only the pakhan of the Zarkov Bratva, but he’s also a billionaire who is used to getting what he wants… and what he wants is me with his ring on my finger.

I’m to appear in public as his fake fiancée, and in return, my loser ex will get to keep his brains inside his head.

Every instinct tells me I don’t want to do this.

But Lev Zarkov can be very persuasive…

Bratva Lullaby is book one in the Zarkov Bratva duet. Brooke and Lev’s story concludes in book two, Midnight Poison.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

BROOKE

I stare at my reflection in the mirror and smooth down the front of my dress. The dress is everything I dreamed about as a little girl when I used to watch all the brides come and go from my mom’s bridal boutique. The softest Italian silk. White and encrusted with the tiniest crystals. A strange sensation tingles in my stomach. Back then, I also dreamed of a handsome prince who would whisk me away and make me his wife. But I’m definitely not marrying a prince today. More like a reformed bad boy. The man in a suit who used to make all the girls at the club swoon. The rapacious flirt who changed his ways for me. You tamed me, Brooke; I’m a changed man.

I met him when I started working at the club he managed. I was the marketing manager, and he was the gorgeous boss I knew I should stay away from. But his boyish charm and dimples eventually wore me down, and before I realized it, we were a couple, and moving in together.

I take a deep breath and let it go slowly to steady my nerves. This is what I want, right? I love Wilson. We’ve been together for two years, and it’s been… great.

I push a stray curl behind my ear.

It’s just nerves.

“Are you ready?” my best friend Elsa asks. Dressed in a champagne-colored silk dress, she gives me an affectionate look. “The limousine is out front.”

I blow out another nervous breath and nod. I want this.

As I walk past Elsa, she stops me. Seven months pregnant, she takes my hand. “It doesn’t need to take you to the church, you know. Just say the word, and the driver will take us anywhere you want to go.”

I know she has her reservations about Wilson. After all, she’s my best friend, so she’s the one I turn to whenever I need to vent because Wilson is being overly flirtatious with another employee again, or Wilson is being distant and is too preoccupied to remember my birthday, or the anniversary of my parents’ death, or insert any important date he missed here. She’s also the one who knows that I haven’t been laid in almost a month because Wilson has been too busy with the club to come home and fuck me.

I give her a confident smile, but it’s all smoke and mirrors. Because behind it, I’m suffering a bad case of cold feet.

I nervously play with the owl charm hanging from the bracelet on my wrist. A gift from my mother I never take off.

The door opens, and my other two bridesmaids, Chloe and Samantha, walk in and immediately begin to gush about my dress. Chloe hands me a glass of champagne, and Samantha passes a champagne glass of juice to Elsa.

I take a sip and hope it helps calm my nerves. I want this.

There’s another tap on the door, and Henry walks in. Henry is my brother from another mother.

While I’ve known Elsa, Chloe, and Samantha since high school, I met Henry when he moved into the apartment across the hall from mine three years ago. One day, he knocked on my door asking to borrow a phone charger, and when he saw my Gucci slippers, he promptly declared us to be best friends, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Even when he moved across town to a fancy loft with his producer boyfriend, we still managed to keep up our cocktail dates.

Today, he’s giving me away. Since my parents are dead and I have no other living relatives, this little group has become my family, and when Wilson asked me to marry him, Henry was the only person I wanted walking me down the aisle.

“Am I too late for the toast?” he asks.

He isn’t carrying a glass of champagne. He’s carrying the open bottle.

“Wow!” Samantha says, her eyes sweeping over his purple herringbone suit and cravat.

“I know, I’m gorgeous,” he says with a little curtsy and a bright twinkle in his eye.

Trust Henry to go completely untraditional at a traditional wedding. His suit is a showstopper, and he looks utterly fabulous.

“Henry, would you like to do the toast?” Chloe asks.

Henry gives me a wink. “To the most beautiful bride in the world. I hope you are blessed with a beautiful wedding and a wonderful marriage.” He raises the bottle. “And may all your ups and downs only be in the bedroom.”

Chloe raises her glass. “Yes, cheers to a great marriage.”

“And great sex,” Samantha adds.

The sound of crystal chinking echoes in the hotel room.

Despite feeling sick with nerves, I take a sip of my champagne and pray for it to stay down. Maybe the alcohol will calm the butterflies and keep my nerves steady. It’s nice champagne, so I take another mouthful and enjoy the warmth spreading through me. But it does nothing to fix that tight feeling in my gut.
He took me as collateral to ensure my ex -fiancé kept the deal they made.

But since then Lev Zarkov has become so much more than the devil I thought he was.

And now his baby is growing in my belly.

I don’t want to leave him but after one devastating night blows up our life, I know I have my baby to think about.

I tell myself that leaving is the right thing to do. But waking up without Lev in the middle of the night is pure midnight poison.

I miss his touch. His smell. The warm, comforting way he would hold me in his arms and let me know how much he wanted me.

But that isn’t the man who comes after me.
He’s angry. He’s formidable. He’s hurt.
And now that he’s found me, he’s going to make me pay for breaking his heart.

But there is a danger lurking in the shadows.
And we’ll have to put our differences aside long enough to fight the invisible threat that could destroy everything.

Midnight Poison is book two in the Zarkov duet and concludes Brooke & Lev’s story.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

BROOKE

The explosion lights up the night, and the glass in the windows shakes. Outside, the night is lit up by a sudden orange glow before it’s swallowed into the darkness.

Oh God, no…

Standing at the window, all I see is carnage in the parking lot below.

What used to be Lev’s car is a smoldering wreck. It’s a blackened shell of twisted metal. Glass is everywhere. Several feet away from the vehicle is what looks like a body.

No, please don’t let it be Lev.

Then I realize it must be Igor, and my heart drops. Tears well in my eyes as I search for Lev.

Then I see him. He wasn’t near the car, but the force of the blast sent him flying backward into the garden lining the sidewalk.

He’s not moving.

He’s dead.

The dread erupts in my chest, and I feel my knees go weak.

But then he moves, and a wave of relief washes over me.

I start banging on the window. I feel so helpless. I see a dark hooded figure walking toward him, its arm outstretched and pointing a gun at Lev. I scream and bang louder on the glass. I see Lev look up at me.

Don’t look at me.

There’s someone coming for you.

But the figure quickly diverts his path when two of Lev’s men appear out of nowhere, followed by a swarm of hospital and security staff running outside to see what happened. I watch the dark figure turn away and disappear quickly into the darkness.

I don’t bother with clothes or shoes or anything sensible like that. Instead, I try to flee the room, but one of the two men Lev has posted outside of my door tries to stop me.

“Get out of my way,” I demand, desperate to get to Lev.

“The pakhan said—”

“The pakhan is lying out there injured.”

“We heard the noise. Vinnie has gone to investigate. But you must stay here where it’s safe.”

I shove him in the chest. “Go help your pakhan. He needs you.”

“The pakhan won’t be happy if I leave you. Or let you leave this room.”

I grab his collar. “You listen to me. Go and help your pakhan, or so help me God, I will shoot you myself.”

He looks a little unsure. The noise drifting up from the parking lot is getting louder as more and more people join the commotion outside.

“We are to stay here,” he says again.

“What is your name?” I ask.

He looks confused.

“It’s not rocket science. I’m just asking for your name.”

He frowns like he’s never been asked the question before, then cautiously adds, “Toby.”

I steady my breath and in a controlled voice say, “Right, Toby, I am going to leave this room with or without your help. What’s it going to be?”

But he won’t budge. “We stay.”

The eerie wail of approaching police sirens cuts into the night.

I have to get to Lev.

Catching Toby off guard, I slam my elbow into his solar plexus and make a run for it. But with every step I take, my body protests. Every bruise lights up with pain as I make my way through the maze of corridors and stairwells to get outside.

By the time I burst outside, the night air is heavy with the stench of burning metal, and my body is screaming for me to stop. But I can’t. I need to get to Lev. I need to know he is okay.

An EMT is with him, checking his vitals. Lev’s eyes are closed. And suddenly, I'm terrified for him. My hand goes to my belly where our baby is nestled inside me.

I look around us. Everywhere is chaos. People yelling. Hospital staff running around. Bystanders appearing out of nowhere. I glance around at the people who have gathered to watch from a safe distance and scan the area for a figure in a hoodie. Is he here watching this unfold? Waiting for the right moment to finish what he started?

I shiver with dread. This was an assassination attempt.

“Miss, you shouldn’t be out here,” an EMT tells me as he rushes past. “There’s glass and debris everywhere.”

Toby appears by my side and he looks pissed. “You need to get back inside. There could be a secondary device.”

More panic rolls through me. And suddenly, I’m being pulled away and ushered inside by Toby and another man who is yelling something, but I can’t hear because all I can see is Lev being treated by the EMT on the ground.

And he doesn’t look unconscious.

He looks dead.

2

BROOKE

“I need to see him,” I yell at Toby and the other guard.

“Not yet, you don’t. You need to stay inside with me and Vinnie,” Toby says.

We’re walking down a long corridor lit with florescent light.

“We’re taking you back to your room,” Vinnie adds. “And you’ll stay there until we receive further information.”

I try to yank myself free from Toby’s grasp, but it’s no use. His grip is strong and vice-like as he leads me down the corridor, further and further away from Lev.
