I didn’t even want this job. I want to do marketing and advertising for the PR company, but they insist their employees get hands-on experience to learn about the people and brand they’re marketing. I imagine not all employees are stuck going on tour with a musician, but my graduation lined up with his tour, and the fact that the original publicist backed out at the last second led to me being on tour with one of the most popular—and asinine—pop stars. My hope is once this tour is done, I’ll be able to get into a position of my choice. Of course he’d pull this shit the day before it’s time to go home.

Sam steps toward me, backing me up against the wall of the tour bus, and I extend my hand, refusing to allow him any closer. “You need to go sleep it off,” I warn. “Sexual assault is a real thing, even for a pop star like yourself.”

“Baby,” he slurs, pushing past my hand and getting all up in my personal space. “Stop playing hard to get.” He reaches for a breast and squeezes it hard, and I lose my cool.

“I’m not playing!” I wind my hand back and slap him in the face.

Because he’s wasted, he stumbles back. “Bitch,” he murmurs, coming at me hard. He pushes me against the wall and cups the area between my legs. “Stop being a fucking cock tease.”

My fight-or-flight instincts kick in, and I lift my knee into his groin, making him stagger back in pain. “You’re going to regret that.” Without waiting for him to make his next move, I run off the bus and over to the other bus, where my bunk bed is. Once I’m safely there, I release a harsh breath, thankful I go home tomorrow. Fucking loser probably won’t even remember the way he acted tonight. Assholes like him, who think they’re above everyone else, always get away with shit like this. Not this time. Tomorrow morning, I’m going to tell my boss what he did. I’m not letting him get away with it.

“Kaylee, you need to wake up,” Iris, the tour manager, says. I open my eyes and find the bus is filled with light. It must be morning.

“Are we back in LA?”

“Yeah,” she says, her lips pursed. “Pack up your things quickly. There’s a car waiting to take you to the airport.”

The ride to the airport is quick, and a few hours later, I arrive back in New York. Another car waits to take me to Evolution. When I enter the lobby, Evelyn is waiting for me, her face devoid of all emotion.

“Please have a seat,” she says once we’re in her office with the door closed.

I’ve been preparing what I’m going to say and how I’m going to word the way Sam behaved, but before I can begin, she speaks first.

“It’s been brought to our attention by Sam York’s team that you behaved inappropriately during the tour. He said last night you went as far as to sexually assault him, and when he refused your advances, you got physical—”

“He said what?” I hiss. “He was inappropriate. He tried to—”

Evelyn raises her hand, silencing me. “It doesn’t matter. It’s your word versus his. You never should’ve been on his bus alone with him. He’s upset and making threats.”

“What an asshole,” I breathe. “So what do we do?”

“We don’t do anything,” she says. “In exchange for him not running my company into the ground, I agreed to let you go.”

“You’re firing me?” This is insane. “What do I do now?” My heart is racing in my chest. I busted my ass for this degree. I worked hard on that tour and didn’t do anything wrong.

“I suggest you find a new career. Once it gets out how you behaved...” I open my mouth to correct her, but she shakes her head. “Whether it’s true or not, you’ll be blacklisted from this industry.” She stands, making it clear this conversation is over. “Your last paycheck will be direct deposited. I wish you the best, and I’m sorry it didn’t work out.”

CHAPTER NINE

BRAXTON

“That’s it, baby. Take my entire cock down your throat.” I pat the woman’s head and continue reading through the group messages. I don’t remember bringing this chick home with me last night, but when I woke up to her slurping on my dick, I wasn’t about to stop her. It’s the perfect parting gift—meaning as soon as I come down her throat, we’ll be parting ways.

Camden: You’re late to the meeting.

Me: Take notes for me.

Camden: We need a new publicist since you and Gage tag-teamed the last one... Nobody wants to work with us.

Gage:

Me: Such a waste... she wasn’t even good in or out of bed. We have Jill...

I glance down at the woman still sucking my cock like a champ. She’s been doing it for a while now, so I imagine her mouth is sore, but she still hasn’t given up. “You’re doing good,” I praise her. “Maybe take me a little deeper.”
