I was certain there wasn’t anything on earth as beautiful as Sammy when she orgasmed. Smiled. Cried my name. She was simple and perfect beauty.

And I knew I was fucked when she left.

But until then, I would get my fill.

After, I wrapped the blanket back around her, and we drank coffee and ate the sweet buns Callie had given me when I’d raided her kitchen for our meal last night. Our clothing was almost dry, and we slid it back on, the process taking a long time between kisses and touches of our hands. We packed up the few things left into the saddlebags, and I lifted her into the saddle, swinging myself up behind her. I liked how she nestled back against me, her softness melding into my hard chest as if made to rest there. I took the long way home, pointing out more things for her to see. She was quiet, not taking pictures, simply in the moment with me. She had been the whole time. The overnight camping had nothing to do with the project, the guests, or anything else. It had been for us. A memory we could both cherish. I realized neither of us had even glanced at our phones when we got closer to the ranch and the message app beeped on hers.

“Reality,” she muttered. “It can wait until after I have a shower.”

I tucked her closer, wishing I could have stayed in that little spot with her for days. Talked and made love to her. Cooked for her and watched her come alive in the sun and the stars. But I had responsibilities, and she did as well.

I guided Maverick toward the stables, frowning when I saw a large RV parked on the property. It was silver and black and had extensions open, as if it planned to stay where it was. I stopped Maverick’s forward motion.

“What the…” I trailed off as the door opened, and two men came down the steps.

Sammy sat straighter, suddenly tense. “Oh my God. Turn him around. Put Maverick in reverse, Cowboy. Now!”

“We’ve been through this before, darlin’. There’s no gearshift.”

“Move him!” she pleaded.

But it was too late. One of the men stepped our way, shielding his eyes. He waved, a wide smile breaking out on his face.

“Mouse!” he shouted.

Sammy groaned, then waved back. “Dad!” she called. Then she whimpered, her shoulders falling forward. “Oh God.”

I swallowed. Her father was here. A day early. We’d just spent the night together, and there was no doubt what we’d been doing. We both looked freshly fucked.

I was, quite possibly, a dead man.

I slid off Maverick and, without thinking, grasped Sammy’s waist and lifted her off. I squeezed her slightly, then stepped back. She hurried forward, throwing herself into her dad’s embrace.

“What are you doing here? We were expecting you tomorrow!”

The other man beside him smiled widely. “Bent had to go to BC to see Thomas, so he dropped us off a day earlier.” He indicated the large RV behind him. “Figured we had our own accommodation, so arriving earlier wouldn’t make much difference.” Then he held out his hand to me. “Aiden Callaghan.”

His grip was strong and firm.

“Luke Adler.”

“Quite the spread you have here, Luke,” he said. “It’s spectacular.”

“Thanks.”

I turned to Sammy’s dad and held out my hand. “Mr. Morrison. A pleasure to meet you, sir.”

He studied me a moment, then gripped my hand. I resisted a strength contest and smiled. “Your daughter had been a whirlwind here.”

He pursed his lips with a nod. “She usually is.” Then he turned to Sammy. “Why are you wet?”

“Oh, we did the overnight camping thing, and I fell in the water. Luke dragged me out.”

“You went alone all night?” he asked, his tone mild.

She tossed her hair, and I tried not to smile. Obviously, I wasn’t the only one who was on the receiving end of that warning.

“You would rather I spent the night alone with four or five cowboys, Dad? I was perfectly safe with Luke,” she replied, her tone tart. “He was giving me the chance to grade the experience.”

“Grade it,” he mused. “And?”

“A solid A,” she replied.

“Only one horse?” he questioned.

“Sammy isn’t big on horses,” I interjected smoothly. “She got thrown on her first day. It’s a short ride, so we took the one horse. She was able to take pictures along the way.”

For a moment, he studied me, then he grinned. “I did warn you, Mouse. You weren’t crazy about them as a kid either.”

“Dusty and I have made friends since,” she protested.

The door opened, and two more men came down the steps. They looked remarkably like Aiden, and I wasn’t surprised to find out they were his sons. I shook their hands, wondering what they fed their children in Ontario. They were all large, imposing men. Then the door opened again, and another man came out. Not as large but still tall and broad, he moved with an easy confidence. Sammy was thrilled to see them all, and hugs and introductions were exchanged.
