I’d never take her personality and her style for granted ever again.

“I’m half tempted to tell you to change so I’m not walking around with a fucking boner all day,” I told her just to tease her.

That brought a smile to her face. I handed her the coffee I’d made her, and she sighed in contentment before gulping down the scalding liquid without even flinching.

I’d never understand how she did that. Shit made me wince just watching her. Woman had to have a throat of steel.

I cracked a smile at the thought of that. I knew just how good her throat game was. Hell, we’d tested it just last night.

“Woman, you’ve got a throat of fucking steel,” I told her, voicing my thoughts out loud.

A coy smirk twisted her lips, and I adjusted my jeans. “Want to find out how good it is?”

God, did I fucking want to, but she needed to get to this appointment. “Later,” I told her. She laughed. “Come on.”

Her smile immediately fell from her face, and she groaned but got up from the mattress. I gripped her wrist and yanked her to me, leaning down to slant my lips across hers, kissing her so thoroughly that I took her breath away. She stared up at me through dazed, lust-filled eyes when I slowly drew back and parted our lips.

I rubbed my thumb over her kiss-swollen bottom lip. “Stop being a grump, sweet girl. You need to see a doctor. I’m putting my fucking foot down on this.” And she knew that. She’d already tried arguing about it last night and two days before that, but I’d just fucked her into submission each time.

She sighed but adjusted her attitude, nodding at me. After a quick peck to her plump lips, I led her from the room and out to the lot, casting Vern a dirty look when he eyed Reina. He just smirked and held his hands up in a surrendering gesture.

If we had time, I’d knock him on his ass for daring to admire something that would never belong to him. But as it was, we were already running a couple of minutes late.

“You’re going to make me knock the shit out of someone with that fucking outfit,” I growled as I straddled my bike, handing Reina my spare helmet.

She just shot me a sweet smile and strapped her helmet to her head before getting on behind me. She tightened her arms around me, her thighs pressing against mine. Her tits were firm against my back, and I clenched my jaw.

I just loved to fucking make myself suffer, I swear.

Gunning the engine, I took off for town, heading in the direction of the doctor’s office with my hand resting on her soft thigh.

“Well, Reina, I’ve got some bad news for you,” Dr. Leslie began. I clenched my jaw. That wasn’t fucking good. Hadn’t even asked if we wanted good news, which meant there wasn’t any. Reina gripped my hand; I quickly laced our fingers together, giving her hand a gentle squeeze in return. “You’re suffering from premature menopause.”

I couldn’t hide my surprise. My eyes widened, but Reina’s head jerked back as if she’d been slapped. “Menopause?” she squeaked.

Fuck, I hadn’t even known menopause couldn’t happen to women of Reina’s age.

Dr. Leslie nodded, taking a seat on her stool. “It’s estimated to affect 0.1% of women under the age of thirty, and unfortunately, you’re part of that very tiny percentage.”

“But—I don’t know—I don’t understand,” Reina finally managed, shaking her head. “Is there a reason that this has happened to me?”

Dr. Leslie shook her head. “Unfortunately, no. Most women—like you—don’t have a reason for premature menopause. It’s just basically a freak of nature.”

A freak of nature.

I wanted to break something. This wasn’t fair to Reina.

Reina’s hand was shaking in mine. I wished I could fucking undo all of this. Part of me wished I hadn’t dragged her to the doctor’s office to find out what was wrong with her.

Because the fucking look in her eyes? It gutted me. She was seeing the future she’d planned out with me fracturing and breaking apart piece by piece.

But this would never change my mind about her. Kids or no kids, she was mine.

“Kids?” Reina asked.

Dr. Leslie frowned. “I don’t want to be the bearer of even more bad news, but unfortunately, children will be a miracle for you.”

My heart clenched in my chest at the devastated look in Reina’s eyes.

Dr. Leslie opened her mouth to continue, but Reina put up her hand. “I’ve heard enough,” she whispered. “I just . . . I want to go home,” Reina said, looking at me. There was so much pain in her eyes. It was fucking killing me. “Please take me home, Sam.”

I nodded once and stood up, helping her down from the cot. The doctor handed me her paperwork, and I silently led Reina from the room, heading towards the checkout desk. She stood silently at my side as I got her signed out and paid her bill. And God, the amount of that bill just to be told there was no helping her—it fucking pissed me off.
