Exactly two hours later, I was dressed in my usual frilly uniform, balancing a tray of drinks with one hand. Bobby’s charity gala had a gangster chic theme, with the venue decorated in hues of black and gold. Everyone looked like they were having fun, and they all made a spectacular sight, with the women dressed in glittering flapper dresses while the men looked like they had just stepped out of a GQ shoot, the Mafia edition.
The only thing that made this occasion different from Bobby’s other events was how rowdy and young this crowd was compared to her usual bunch of sponsors. I had lost count of the number of times I had to dodge drunken passes—-
And here comes another one, I thought resignedly as a hand grazed the small of my back...and stayed there.
An excuse ready on my lips, I turned around—-
And froze.
Kellion.
A stunningly handsome Kellion, with slicked back hair, suspenders, and slim, tight-fitting pants.
My heart soared and crashed before swaying unevenly in my chest, intoxicated by the sheer beauty of the man in front of me. Did he know he made the world’s sexiest gangster on the planet? Every girl in the room thought the same thing, with the way they ogled him so blatantly.
I was about to sign ‘hi’ to him when I noticed the furious-as-hell scowl on his face. That was the moment I remembered an essential fact: I hadn’t told him about me working tonight.
Crap. I whirled around, hoping to escape, but it was too late.
“Not so fast.” The words were spoken in a silky voice as Kellion captured my wrist from behind, spinning me back to face him. The tray on my other hand began to tilt, but Kellion only had to nod once and his bodyguards once again appeared from nowhere, flanking us on all sides while one of them took the tray from my hand.
“Uh. Wow. They’re...like...ghosts. Poof.” My hand closed and opened, a poor imitation of a magic trick. “Suddenly...they’re...there.”
Kellion’s lips curved at my quip, but his smile didn’t reach his eyes. It was my first time to see him this angry. This jealous. My eyes widened at the realization, my heart beating even more erratically at the thought that Kellion Argyros, my boyfriend, was jealous over me.
And the worse thing about it?
I liked it.
No, I loved it, the possessive look in his eyes, the hard line of his jaw, the tension in his body.
“What are you doing here, terataki?” His voice was still silky soft, and for some reason, it only made my body feel hot and alive.
“I...” The words were out before I could stop them. “I...wanted...to...see...you...jealous.”
*head desk*
Did I really just say that?
The answer to it was in the way Kellion’s nostrils flared, his green eyes darkening. And then suddenly we were walking, his hand gripping mine tightly, and his stride so powerfully fast I almost had to run to keep up with him.
A male guest ahead of us caught sight of me, his leering gaze focusing on the amount of cleavage my uniform exposed. Stupid, stupid curves. I wanted to cross my arms over my chest but I had a feeling if I did, it would only make matters worse.
“Hey, hottie,” the man slurred as we passed him by. “When you’re done with him, you come find me, you hear?”
Kellion stiffened in front of me.
Oh, shit.
This was not how I wanted things to be.
When he started to turn towards the man, I quickly stopped him, standing in his way, and cupping his face, I said meekly, “Sorry.” Our gazes clashed, and I gulped at the savage light of jealousy in his eyes. The man was still talking to me, but I didn’t even look at him. My attention was all on Kellion. “Sorry.” I said it over and over until the savagery in his gaze started to fade.
“Ah, terataki.” He took my hand, pressing his lips to my palm. “You know I’ll make you pay for this, don’t you?”
My eyes widened.
But Kellion was already nodding to his bodyguards, and again they moved in unison as they turned towards the other guest and literally carried him towards the exit, their faces stoic even as he started to protest.
Oh, shit. If that was how that guy was punished, what would happen to me?
But Kellion was walking again, taking me with him. A moment later, we had reached the side doors of the ballroom, the attendants rushing to open them for us.
I tugged on his wrist, more than a little nervous now, but Kellion didn’t even glance my way. Soon, we were inside the elevator, and the moment the doors closed, Kellion hauled me towards him.
“You want me jealous, is that it?” He lifted me up in one quick move, leaving me no choice but to cling to him, my arms around his neck, my legs around his waist. He was hard all over, hardest where it mattered, and my head started to spin.
