“I like playing.” I did. “I like ice cream too, but you don’t have to stay if you don’t want to play. Everyone has to agree before we play and that means the Daddies too. But Jacki’s Daddy always says yes to what Jacki wants.”

Daddy Dante was trying not to giggle. “I think I agree with that. Jacki’s Daddy likes making him happy.”

“Are you a Daddy who likes making littles happy?” He’d brought ice cream, so I thought I knew the answer, but I liked it when he nodded.

“Yes, that’s why I brought a special treat for a good boy who made sure I knew he wanted to play.”

Yay.

“I’ve been big-bowl-of-ice-cream good.” Just in case he didn’t know that, I made sure I told him. “Very good.”

Oh.

“I even had ’cumbers I was so good.”

Daddy Dante shrugged. “If you had veggies and communicated what you want, well, I’d have to agree that you’ve been big-ice-cream good.”

Yep, Jacki was right, Daddy Dante was very nice.

Chapter 4

Dante

I wasn’t sure if it counted as a first date or not, but I was already enjoying myself, so I was going to count it until he said otherwise. “Should we play first or have dessert first?”

With more confidence that he’d actually invited me over and it hadn’t been some fucked-up game of telephone, I went deeper into the house and closed the door behind me. Ruslan was swaying side to side and frowning, which somehow looked adorable. “Play?”

“That sounds perfect.” I’d have been good either way but I was glad to have his input since I hadn’t learned his preferences yet. “How about you show me where the kitchen is so we can put the ice cream in the freezer?”

It’d been an impulse purchase the last time I’d gone grocery shopping. Malcolm’s slightly confusing texts hadn’t given me much to go on, but he’d said Ruslan’s little side thought dessert should be part of our evening.

“Yes, come on.” Professor Ruslan had never even put his hand on my arm, but little Ruslan grabbed my hand and pulled me through the house. “See, I wearing your presents.”

I laughed at the wicked gleam in his eyes. “I don’t remember saying that I was your Secret Santa.”

That had him giggling and nearly vibrating with excited energy. “Daddy Dante’s sneaky.”

Playing along, I grabbed my chest and sucked in a breath as we stopped at the fridge. “Me? I’m not sneaky.”

That got more giggles as he helped me with the freezer. “See? All gone.”

Yes, there didn’t seem to be any ice cream or anything he could call a dessert in there. In fact, it was mostly empty except for chicken nuggets and a few random bags of vegetables. “Not anymore.”

Setting the carton in a place of honor, I stood proud making him giggle again. “Now you have ice cream.”

“Good Daddy Dante.” Little Russie as he seemed to be called didn’t have the same reservations about me that grown-up Ruslan had, and it made me wonder what he’d think when the big world came back into focus for him. “Jacki’s Daddy said you were nice and would give me dessert.”

His giggles and the spark of something silly in his eyes said there was more to that conversation than I’d been privy to, but I didn’t push him to explain what he was thinking. “He’s very smart.”

That just got me more giggles, which was a bit worrisome.

My conversation with Malcolm had been just several rushed text messages, but he’d been blunt. He’d said that he’d gotten a rushed little version from listening to his boy’s conversation with Ruslan but nothing had made him feel like Ruslan would have regrets later.

But he couldn’t promise a damned thing, so I should use good judgment.

That definitely seemed to be the Daddy Dom version of don’t fuck with my friend, but I should’ve asked more questions because I had no idea what Ruslan would consider as us going too far.

Ugh.

Stupid Daddy Dante, not good Daddy Dante.

“Thank you.” But since Ruslan was not in the right headspace to understand my reservations, I smiled and pushed them to the back of my head. “Is it playtime? I was promised coloring.”

When that got me more giggles and an excited bounce, I took that as a good sign. “Wonderful. But do you need juice or something to drink while we color?”

Nodding, Russie grabbed my hand again and led me over to a cabinet. “There.”

There seemed to be where all the little stuff was stored because I saw sippy cups and bottles and fun plates of all shapes and sizes. “How about…the blue one so you match?”

Without a mac-n-cheese cup to go with his outfit, it seemed like the best idea and I was rewarded with another big smile. “Yes. Milk? I like milk. I like juice but milk is yummy.”

Giving his hand a squeeze before releasing it, I nodded. “Yes, as long as you’ve got milk that sounds like a great plan.”
