Instead of answering him, I shrug with the biggest smile on my face.
He leans in, kisses my neck, and whispers into my ear, “As soon as I get rid of all these people, I’m going to show you how much I’ve missed you.”
I blurt out a laugh. “Oh, you miss me? You do know we made love not an hour ago.”
He shakes his head. “Too long.”
I roll my eyes, and Skyler giggling has me looking toward her and Zach. I sigh, not trying to hide my jealousy. “Your sister is glowing with her pregnancy.”
Logan snuggles into me. “It’s been three months, baby. We’re just getting started.”
I sigh. “I know, I just, I don’t know. If you want three kids… we sort of need to get started.”
He hugs me to him, and I know he wants to protect me from my own feelings. “Baby, this just means I get more time with you to myself. We’ll have however many kids we’re supposed to have.”
I nod, wanting to believe what he’s saying. He seems so sure of everything that it brings me comfort too.
I kiss him softly. “I love you, husband.”
He tries to deepen the kiss. “I love you too, wife.”
I giggle and pull away, shyly looking around at our family. “Your whole family is here.”
He rubs his thumb over my swollen lip. “You mean our family.”
I nod, and Aria catches my eye. She’s watching Penn with a frown on her face as he types into his phone. I’ve wanted to ask her if she’s okay, but she’s pretty tight-lipped about everything with her and her husband. I’ve asked Logan, but he doesn’t know either. I can only imagine how stressful it is with Penn being a doctor. And I’m sure Aria is stressed working and taking care of the home. I mentally make a note to ask her to lunch soon.
Miller walks up to us, and for once the frown is gone, and he has a soft smile on his face. He doesn’t say anything, just smiles as he looks between Logan and me.
“What is it?” Logan asks him.
He just shrugs. “Nothing.” He takes a deep breath and then starts to ramble. “I mean, you all are really happy, aren’t you?”
I look at Logan, and I know the love I see in his eyes is reflected in my own. I nod at Miller. “Yeah, we are.”
He crosses his arms over his chest. “Yeah, well, I’m glad you two found each other. Some people spend years wanting something they can’t have.
My eyebrows lift with curiosity. I don’t think he thought his statement would be so honest and vulnerable. It’s hard to imagine that Miller of all people has experienced unrequited love. He blushes, but before either of us can say anything, his phone rings.
He looks at it and then gets a soft smile on his face.
Without saying a word to us, he walks off to the side, and we can’t help but hear part of his conversation. “Hey.”
He pauses and then says, “No, I told you to call me if you ever needed me. Tell me where you are.”
He stands up a little taller. “I’m on my way.” He walks over to us. “Sorry. I gotta go.”
Logan asks him, “Is everything okay?”
He nods. “Yeah. Everything’s okay. Or it’s going to be. Just something I’ve been waiting on.”
He strides through the family, bidding everyone goodbye, leaving Logan and me wondering about the mysterious call.
Logan pulls me to him and kisses my forehead. “You know, I’m glad we found each other too. That day I walked into the bodega, I knew as soon as I looked at you that my life would never be the same.”
In his arms, I feel how right he is. “My life is not the same either, but this is exactly what I wanted.”
He smiles happily. “Me too.”
EPILOGUE 2
LOGAN
Six Years Later
“Honey, I’m home.”
I walk through the quiet house and am surprised at the silence. It doesn’t feel right.
I keep walking, a smile on my face, ready to see my wife and kids. I know they’re here somewhere. I talked to Bree not twenty minutes ago.
I walk into the kitchen and find it empty. One peek out the window and my eyes are drawn to my wife and kids in the pool.
Instead of going outside, I sneak upstairs, take off my clothes, put on some swimming trunks, and then walk out to join my family.
The three kids start whooping and hollering when they see me. My beautiful wife stays in the pool as the kids clamor out and run for me.
I happily hug each of them and then toss them into the pool. They’re all giggles and laughter, and before I realize it, I’ve started something. For the next twenty minutes, I’m tossing kids into the pool. They land in the water and then rush to get out to do it again. Bree has her sunglasses on, but I can feel her gaze on me. She’s smiling and laughing. “You see what you started?”
