She let out a little whimper. “Well then, what are we doing here?”
I shook my head in confusion, and she tugged at my shirt as she looked up and down the street. “We’re closer to your hotel than to my apartment. Want to go there?”
My heart literally flipped in my chest. “You want to go back to my hotel with me?”
She didn’t even hesitate. “Yeah, I do. I know it’s crazy. I know we just met three days ago and that we should wait, but I don’t want to.” Her big green eyes flickered up at me. “I want you as much as you want me, Lo.”
I couldn’t resist. I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. We had kissed before but nothing like this. This kiss was everything. I put everything I was feeling, everything I was wanting into that kiss and as our lips meshed against each other, I knew that by the end of the night I was going to tell her I loved her. It might have been insane, but everything about us just felt right.
She whimpered, and I broke off the kiss. With her wide eyes looking up at me, I asked her, “You sure?”
She smiled, and it lit up her whole face. “You have to ask me after that kiss? Yeah, I’m sure.”
I picked her up in my arms and swung her around, and then she pulled from my hold, grabbed my hand, and started pulling me in the direction of the hotel. That was a night I’ll never forget. Never.
The ringing of my phone draws me out of my daze, and I pick it up. “This is Logan.”
”Line two is for you.”
Bree. I didn’t even think about her being on the other end of the line, and after thinking about that first night together, my half-hard manhood goes full mast. “Thanks,” I grunt before hanging up and pushing the button.
I clench my eyes shut as I listen to the caller ask about our services. I schedule a meeting for the afternoon, and all the while, I sit here not even thinking about Stronghold or the client on the phone. Nope, I’m thinking about the curvy brown-haired woman in the other room that still has a hold on my heart. It’s obvious that no matter what, she’s going to have a hold on me. There’s no escaping it.
CHAPTER 4
BREE
I’ve never been more ready for a day to be over than I am now.
As I’m preparing for the two o’clock meeting, Alex and Sam walk in the door. I force a smile that I’m not feeling to my face. “Hey, guys, how’d it go?”
Alex hands me the clipboard. “Three full-service installations and one camera installation. All the paperwork is complete and filled out, and I think Sam here is ready to go on his own.”
I flip through the pages on the clipboard. It’s been a process. Stronghold Security has been a lot busier than Zach thought it would be, and we needed a system to streamline what we were installing, the current inventory, and an automatic ordering system. It took me a bit to get it all organized, but I think it’s working well. When I see that everything is in order, I smile. “Great job, guys.”
They both smile, and I look at Sam. “So you feeling good about it all? You know you can call any of us if you get in a bind or need help.”
Sam blushes. He has a crush on me, but I act like I don’t know about it. Both Zach and Alex have talked to me about it to make sure I wasn’t uncomfortable. Sam clears his throat. “I feel like I’m ready.”
I pick up another clipboard. “Great. We got a call for another installation. It’s in the city limits. You wanna go?”
Sam sucks in a deep breath and lets it out. “Yes.”
I hand him the clipboard. “Great, just call Alex if you have any problems.”
As Sam walks out the door, Alex points a thumb over his shoulder. “Logan in his office?”
I nod, and he says, “Cool. I’m going to go check in with him.” He gives me a questioning look. “You doing okay?”
I force another fake smile. “Yeah, I’m doing good.”
He doesn’t believe me, but he doesn’t ask me any more questions as he knocks on Logan’s closed door and then lets himself in.
I no sooner sit down than the front doorbell rings, and a woman walks in.
“Hello. How can I help you?”
The woman is dressed to the nines with heels and everything. She has long eyelashes, big, pouty lips, and her breasts are so high it’s hard not to stare. She looks around the office. “I’m here to see Logan Brody.”
I look down at the notepad. Logan came out of his office earlier and begrudgingly told me he’d scheduled an appointment for two o’clock today. That was the only time I’d seen him. “Are you Amy Burkhardt?”
