I do, every perfect second. And then I frown.

"Are you ashamed?" I whisper, nestled in his arms, my legs draped across his.

"Fuck no," he says, making me smile. "You're mine. Once you're ready for me, I won't be moving slow or taking prisoners. I'm not stopping until you're tied to me in every single way imaginable."

"Do I get a say in this?" I ask, fighting a smile.

"I'm not in you right this second because I'm giving you time to have your say," he growls, something deep and powerful glittering in his onyx eyes. "Once I take that cherry, we're permanent. I'll pluck the damn stars from the sky to make you happy. I'll walk through hell to keep you safe. Whatever you want, I'll give you. But the one thing I won't be doing is surviving without you, rabbit."

"Andreas," I gasp, blinking rapidly as tears fill my eyes. That's the craziest, most ridiculous, absolute sweetest thing I've ever heard. And I know he means it. It's written all over his face.

"You're not surviving without me either, Catriona," he says, brushing his thumbs beneath my eyes. "Every day without me, breathing will hurt a little bit more. You need me, little one. Just like I need you. You might not be ready to admit it yet, but you feel me. Right here." He places his palm over my pounding heart.

"H-how do you know?" I whisper.

"Because it's my home," he says, taking my hand in his. He spreads my fingers out and then presses my palm to his chest, my fingers splayed wide across his sternum. "And this is yours."

Chapter Seven

Andreas

"I don't think we're supposed to be here," Catriona whispers, glancing furtively around as I pull her past a barricade outside of the Toyota Center in Houston. Everyone else is bypassing the entrance, heading down the street in a steady stream. But everyone else isn't good friends with Declan "Bender" Valentine, lead singer of Bent, the band playing tonight. He's one of my brothers, a member of our MC.

He's got a security guard waiting at the door to let us in. I'm not sure how Catriona feels about rock music, but everyone loves Bender and his bandmates. I want our first date to be one she never forgets. Dinner with Bender, followed by front row seats to the show will be an experience to remember. She deserves that. She hasn't had many of those in her life.

Autumn would probably lose her mind if she knew this was what I came up with for the night. It's over the top. But fuck. I didn't bring Catriona here to impress her. I don't want to wine and dine her and dazzle her with sights that will only remind her of just how small her world has always been.

I want to share her with the people who matter, the ones who will help me love her the way she deserves. The ones who will help protect her and show her that she can fit into this world too. Bender is part of my world. When she marries me, he'll be part of her world too. She needs to meet Bender before she sees him on stage so she can meet the stubborn, selfless pain in the ass I know, not the rockstar the rest of the world knows.

Our MC is a brotherhood. We're a family. I want her to be comfortable with my brothers. I want her to know that she can count on them to have her back, no matter what. We aren't the Vipers, and she doesn't need protection from them. She doesn't need to fear them. She damn sure doesn't need to feel like she's less than them.

"Trust me, little one," I murmur, shooting her a confident grin.

She gives me a look that makes it clear she thinks I'm violating every rule in the book, but she lets me lead her around the barricade. I fight a smile the whole time. I fucking love that she's a stickler for the rules.

If I ever come face to face with her brother, I may break his fucking jaw on principle. He never should have gotten involved with the Vipers when he had her to think about. He certainly never should have had her working in his pawnshop or covering for him. God only knows how long she did it or how many times she lied his way out of trouble. She loves him fiercely, and he used it to drag her into something that's so far outside of her character it's a goddamn travesty.

Thank God, Giant talked me into taking a ride. Thank God, we decided to snoop around the pawnshop. Thank God, Catriona confronted us. Thank God, she came to me for help. Until last week, I always believed we were the masters of our own fate like Henley wrote in Invictus. Now, I'm not so sure. If fate didn't play a hand at throwing us together, I'm not sure what did.
