“It’s not that.” I go after him. He arches his eyebrows at me, essentially calling me a liar, which I am. “Fine. I’m not used to taking handouts or someone expecting nothing in return. Yes, my past sucks. But I don’t want to go down memory lane right now.” Truth be told, if I never had to share my past again, I wouldn’t. Telling the girls and Mrs. Mary is one thing, anyone else, I’d probably crumble.

Graham’s hands find their way back to my cheeks again, lifting my face so we’re eye to eye. “Not looking to take over. Just want to be a part of yours and Logan’s lives. I know you have a shit past, but let me do something for you. I have plenty of time to take off, and this town could use a deputy a time or ten.” He’s not wrong, which another reason I’m so apprehensive. He’s being called out every other day. I couldn’t even fathom being a cop’s girlfriend or wife, not with the high stress and him being called out at all hours of the day.

“I’d appreciate that. Not sure how I’ll ever be able to repay you.” My mind is already in overdrive thinking of what I can do to reciprocate him taking on Logan for a couple of weeks.

“Don’t want anything in return. Just let me help.” He kisses my forehead then lets me go, and even I have to admit that’s probably the sweetest kiss I’ve ever had in my life.

“Okay.” I’ll still probably bake him cookies, or if I get the chance, I’ll make the homemade doughnuts he’s always after in town.

“Alright, tell Logan I’ll be here tomorrow after dinner to finish his Legos, then we’ll hammer out the schedule.” He squeezes my hand. I step away, allowing him to put his boots on, then watch him leave. The pressure that was sitting on my chest has lifted, thankfully. Now I won’t have to worry about how to stretch a dollar out of a nickel.

Chapter 4

Graham

“Fuck, Faith, just like that.” I’m in the shower. She’s on her knees, body slick with water, mascara running down her face as she teases the head of my cock with her tongue. One of Faith’s hands is holding my length right where she needs it, the other is cupping my balls, slowly rotating them in her palm. My body is wrecked from that alone.

I’m using my forearm to hold myself up against the tiled wall, my knees attempting to give out on me, and she hasn’t even wrapped that pretty mouth around my dick.

“You like that, Graham?” she asks between slow sweeping licks.

“Damn straight. You tease me much more, and I’m going to be fisting your hair in my hands and fuck your face.” Of fucking course, she wouldn’t take the bait, instead, Faith does what she wants, and I’m a victim to everything she does. She opens her mouth, sucking around the head, one inch at a damn time, messing with me further. One of my hands moves to her throat, my thumb gliding over the pulse point.

“Mhmm,” she hums against me. My hand tightens further, hips moving towards her greedy mouth.

“Son of a bitch,” I grunt out, feeling ready to explode, wanting her to suck it all the way down to the back of her throat while swallowing my cum. “You better back off if you don’t want it in your mouth.” Faith doesn’t seem to mind as she takes me to the back of her throat, swallowing around me, and that’s when I come, almost falling over even though I’m holding myself up.

“Goddamn it.” Words choke me. I’m busy using my own hand, coming with ol’ Rosey Palmer like I have just about every fucking day since my eyes landed on Faith Bridges. The water washes away the fantasy of her being here with me, along with my cum. This shit is getting old, but as much as I’d be smart to walk the hell away, I know that won’t stop the fever she’s built up in my blood.

I rinse my body, turn the water off, and angrily grab at the towel from the hook. I’m supposed to be off today. My plan is to get shit done around here, pick up dinner, and take it over to Faith and Logan’s house. If shit goes sideways again, I’m liable to throw my two-way radio we use for dispatches out the window. It seems Cherry Falls always has one thing or another going on. Sometimes, it’s a simple call, other times, not so much. What it is doing is taking a toll on everything surrounding me.

Which is why when I hear my damn phone going off in the other room, I’m tempted to let it go to voicemail. I told dispatch I was done for the day, if they needed me, it was for emergency only. That’s the only thing that’s making me walk swiftly towards where I left it on the kitchen counter. I make my way with my towel wrapped around my waist, not wanting to give the neighbors a show.
