“Is that really…” I gasp.
“Well, it’s not a tiny pizza,” he says, opening the lid and handing me the box, which contains a very beautiful diamond ring.
For a split second I can only stare at it. Then I let out a squeak of glee. “It’s gorgeous!”
He pops up onto his feet and pulls me into his arms. “Do I hear a yes?”
“YES!” I shriek, still staring at the ring over his shoulder. “Can I put it on?”
“Of course, beautiful,” he says, kissing my sweaty neck.
I slip the ring out of its satin cushion and onto my finger. “Look who’s sparkling now?”
He laughs and then scoops me off my feet to twirl me around.
And that’s the photo we have on the wall of our penthouse at The Lair—Chase and me, on skates, having more fun together than we were ever meant to have. And it’s perfect.
