“I don’t get it. If this is only about sex, then you could have plenty of it without us. You don’t need to have me or Heath in your personal space.”
Dayne didn’t respond for the longest time, and when he finally did, he said, “This isn’t only about sex.”
“Explain.”
“I’ve been struggling with this, but the truth is, I want to explore the connection the three of us had.”
So, he felt it, too.
“I want to know if it’s real and find out how deep it goes.”
She didn’t expect any of this to come from Dayne. “What does Heath think?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t ask. I sent him an invite for this weekend via text. He accepted. Maybe I’m wrong about this connection but I won’t know—we won’t know—unless we spend more time together.”
“I definitely didn’t expect any of this from you,” she whispered. Not when she thought she’d never hear from him again.
“I didn’t expect this from myself, either. Like I said, I’m struggling with this whole thing, but I also can’t ignore it. My life hasn’t been the same since you two left.”
Wow. That was some confession. Especially from a man who considered the resort as his personal playground.
“Are you asking us to return so you can work on getting us out of your system?”
“Not at all. An invitation wouldn’t be needed for that. Having sex with others would do that job.”
“But you can’t.”
“No. I can’t stop thinking about you and Heath, Cara.”
“I can’t stop thinking about you and Heath, either,” she admitted softly. “Fine. I’ll let you know when I can come. Hopefully, before the end of the month.”
With one hand on his hip, Heath used the T-shirt hanging around his neck to wipe away the sweat beading on his forehead.
He was definitely getting more into running on trails rather than on the treadmill in his building’s gym. The terrain might be rougher but the run itself was easier.
The scenery also made it a bit easier, too. Not of the mountains or the pastures, but of Dayne’s ass and legs. And possibly his bare chest and back, too.
After driving to the resort last evening, he had spent the rest of the night holed up in Dayne’s bedroom breaking a sweat in a different way.
He had been disappointed to find out that Cara couldn’t join them this weekend. Dayne said she’d be back two weekends from now.
To Heath, that was far too long.
He had been surprised to find, once he left after their week together, how much he missed both her and Dayne. It was like the both of them had burrowed deep into his chest and planted themselves there. Even though he doubted that was their intention.
He was shocked when Dayne reached out and invited him to stay in his personal residence. Heath figured he was the only one who felt their strong connection. And then he thought he had imagined it.
Apparently, he was wrong.
The resort was Dayne’s sexual oyster. Everything was available to him. He could find anything he wanted at any time with anyone willing to participate. So again, this invitation was so damn unexpected.
Of course, he couldn’t say no. He, like Dayne, wanted to see if the emotional attachment between the three of them was real, and not simply about sexual desires.
Even if it was, the sex between them had been great. And great sex had been the original goal. That and good company.
In the past couple of weeks, he had thought about Cara and Dayne often. Actually, too often. It had been a while since he’d obsessed over any lover. Crazy enough, here he was now obsessing over two.
By the time they walked into the farmhouse, they had both cooled down enough and the early morning run had worked up their appetites. On the way back, Dayne kept teasing him with how good his sister’s breakfasts were.
His stomach had growled right before he asked, “You sure she won’t mind a stranger sitting down at the kitchen table with you?”
“You’re not a stranger,” Dayne answered. “At least to me.”
“You normally invite your sexual conquests to share a meal with your family?”
Dayne only answered with a shrug. Between that and how his siblings didn’t even blink when they walked into the kitchen together, Heath had his answer.
It was clear that he was definitely not Dayne’s first lover to join them for a morning meal.
One of the women raked her eyes down his bare chest and paused briefly at the crotch area of his running shorts before turning back to the stove with a sigh.
He quickly yanked his damp T-shirt over his head and down his torso.
“Heath, the one who just eye-fucked you is my baby sister, Danica.”
Glancing over her shoulder with raised eyebrows, Dayne’s sister responded, “Well, this is new. Since when do you actually tell us their names?”
