She unzips slowly, bringing black leather into view. She shrugs out of the suede and lets it slip to the floor.

Oh God…

I groan.

Black leather.

It squeezes her tits until they’re nearly bursting out. Her waist is cinched tight.

Fuck. I see her lying on her back, wearing nothing but the black leather, her legs spread, knees to her chest, her pretty pussy on display…

She widens her grin.

She knows exactly what she’s doing to me.

And she likes it.

I say nothing. Just grab her and slam my mouth onto hers. I’m gripping her shoulders, kissing her hard. She stumbles, but I steady her and deepen the kiss.

I break the kiss and push her away slightly. “You look so sexy, Skye,” I rasp.

“Do you like it?”

I don’t answer in words, only in my gaze. I devour her with my eyes.

I clear my throat as she drops her gaze to the bulge in my crotch.

Yeah, we’ll be eating quickly.

Chapter Six

We don’t talk much during our meal of sashimi and tempura. Skye is visibly nervous. She drops her chopsticks not once but twice, mumbling an apology.

She doesn’t eat much.

“Don’t you like the food?” I ask.

“It’s delicious. I just…”

“Just what?”

“I don’t want too full a belly for…you know.”

I nod. Wise choice, except we won’t be doing what she thinks we’ll be doing. All the same, I don’t overindulge, either.

When we finally leave the kitchen, I lead her not to my bedroom but to my office.

“Take a seat.” I motion to one of the leather chairs sitting across from my desk.

“Okay…” She sits down.

“I wasn’t planning to have this talk tonight,” I say, taking a seat behind my desk, “but your escapade earlier today seems to necessitate it.”

“Okay…” she says again, this time more hesitantly.

I breathe deeply, gathering the strength I need for this conversation. Gathering the strength I need to resist her. I could grab her so easily, fuck her silly, ease the aches we both have inside us.

“I want you. I’m hard as a fucking rock right now, looking at you in that leather top. I could fuck you three different ways in the next three minutes. That’s how much I want you.”

She smiles. She squirms.

“Before we go any further, though, there’s something you should know about me.”

“What’s that?”

I lower my eyelids slightly, meeting her gaze. Time for an admission.

Love is always worth another chance.

“I’ve never said ‘I love you’ to any woman before you.”

Her eyes widen.

“You find that surprising?”

“Of course I do. Look at you. You’re Braden Black. Women have been falling all over you for ten years. Aretha Doyle and all the others.”

I give her a slight smile. “That doesn’t mean I fell in love with any of them.”

She returns the smile. “I don’t know what to say. Except that I’m flattered.”

“I’m not asking you to say anything. Just listen, Skye.”

She nods. “All right.”

“Obviously, you can deduce that I don’t say those words lightly. I don’t, but I said them to you, and I said them for one reason.”

She lifts her eyebrows.

I give her that slight smile again. “I meant them.”

She lets out a breath and squirms.

“I’m not in the habit of saying things I don’t mean, Skye.”

“I didn’t think you were.”

I stop smiling. Time to get serious.

“So when I say I don’t talk about what happened between Addison and me, I mean it.”

Silence, which surprises me.

“Good. You’re not opening your mouth to fight me. I’d say that’s progress.”

“I’m not sure what I should say, Braden. I’ll always wonder what happened between you and Addison. I’ll always wonder why she changed so much after your relationship.”

“You know Addison,” I say. “You know what kind of person she is. Yet you can’t figure out why she might tell lies about me? Or anyone else, for that matter?”

“I admit you have a point,” she says.

“You of all people should know that Addison feels very strongly when she thinks she’s been crossed. She comes out fighting, and she doesn’t fight fair.”

Skye bites her lip. She’s thinking. If only she weren’t so fucking sexy while she’s doing it. My dick is ready to go rogue.

“Okay,” she says. “I admit she accused me of trying to steal her spotlight, which I never meant to do. In fact, I can’t. She’s so far ahead of me, she may as well be in a different galaxy. But she never said or gave any indication that I hurt her in any way.”

“No, she didn’t. Right now, you don’t have something she wants. Despite your quick success, she hasn’t lost any of her own following. But she’s watching you, Skye. I know she is.”

She wrinkles her forehead. “How do you know?”

“Because I’m watching her.”

True story. I’ve been watching her since our first run-in. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. That’s always good advice.

“I’ve been watching Addison for years,” I continue. “She’s intelligent and cunning, but she does have a weakness.”
