Mera reels back, her eyes wide. “What? Who the hell would do that? Oh God...it wasn’t...it wasn’t another copycat, was it?”

I know what she’s thinking – being the daughter of a serial killer, Mera’s mind goes straight to that. This town has lived through this kind of horror before, but her father isn’t here and I don’t know why someone would be copying him. Though, it’s not a complete impossibility.

“Not sure,” Talon tells her. “Could be, or it could be a boyfriend, something completely different.”

“Is she safe?” I ask, rubbing my hands over my arms.

That poor girl.

“Kael ain’t leavin’ her side, the hospital staff tried to remove him and he put up a fight. He hasn’t left and he ain’t plannin’ on goin’ anytime soon.”

I don’t blame him.

“He’s going to try and help her,” Mera nods. “I would do the same.”

“Yeah, he’s a stubborn fucker,” Talon mutters. “Could be gettin’ into somethin’ dangerous.”

“Wouldn’t be the first time the club has dealt with danger,” I tease, lightly, trying to ease the tension in the room.

Talon offers a half smile. “One problem ends, another begins.”

Mera frowns, and I reach over, squeezing her hand. “I’m sure it’s nothing, honey.”

“I hope not. The last thing this town needs is another crazy man on the loose.”

She’s not wrong.

“Is the land this town was built on cursed or something?” I huff. “God, it’s like we are breeding the bad.”

Talon grunts, crossing his arms. “Lucky we’re here, eh?”

I smile. “Lucky, alright.”

“Well, I’m goin’ to let you two get back to it. Just wanted to let you know. This could get messy.”

“That’s okay,” I shrug. “We love messy.”

Leaning down, he presses a kiss to my lips, before tossing Mera a smile and leaving.

I turn to her. “You okay?”

She nods. “Yeah. That poor girl. Who do you think she is?”

I have no idea.

But I’m certain we’re about to find out.

THE END
