My eyes closed, breaking off the vision of her sated in my bed, and I collapsed on top of her, being careful of her belly as I did.
I’d just given her so much that I didn’t think I’d ever be able to get it back.
And I didn’t care.
Not one fucking bit.
Chapter 12
If you can’t deal with me at my worst, I don’t blame you. I can be fucking mental sometimes.
-Text from Tasha to Casten
Tasha
I was floating on cloud nine.
It’d been less than three hours since Casten had given me what every woman in the world dreamed of: multiple orgasms!
I’d never experienced one except by my own hand before, and even now, three hours since I’d had my last one, I was still feeling the aftereffects.
“Alright,” Casten mumbled into his phone. “I’ll be there in about forty-five minutes. Thanks for calling. Yeah. Bye.”
I turned on my side to look at Casten.
We hadn’t been to bed yet.
And just as we were about to drift off to sleep, me in his arms, and him cuddled up to my back, his phone rang.
I gathered from the few words that Casten had said that his office had been vandalized, and he needed to come turn off the alarm and file a report.
Which was why I wasn’t surprised when he stood up with a sigh.
“Gotta go,” he groused.
I frowned and watched as he dressed in what little light his phone cast on the room.
“Okay,” I replied softly, getting up and gathering my dress and panties.
He stilled my hips with both of his big hands.
“What are you doing?” he asked softly.
I shrugged.
“I’m going back to my room,” I told him.
He tightened his hands on my hips when I made to leave.
“Don’t leave my bed. I’ll be back,” he whispered. “Stay naked and wait for me.”
I couldn’t tell him no…not with those puppy dog eyes he was giving me.
I turned in his arms and looped my arms around his neck, pressing my body against his suggestively.
“What will I get if I wait?” I teased.
He looked me dead in the eyes, and in typical Casten fashion, he didn’t mince words.
“Fucked.”
I laid down and watched him as he finished getting ready, my mind already on what he would do to me when he got back.
I must’ve drifted off, because the next time I opened my eyes, the only thing I could see was blackness.
What had woken me?
Then another low growl from Koda had my skin crawling.
I slowly got up on one elbow and took stock of my surroundings.
Casten usually had a clock in the corner that displayed the time in huge red numbers…but there was nothing in that corner now, only blackness.
Koda’s growl turned into a deep whine, and I closed my eyes.
Think, Tasha!
Suddenly, Koda’s growls were no longer growls, but insistent snarls.
I reached towards the end of the bed where I’d seen Casten toss his red shirt he’d worn to the wedding, then slipped it on over my shoulders.
My knee hit something hard, and I realized that my phone was sitting right next to me.
My phone!
I lunged for it and pulled up the number Casten had programmed into my emergency contacts.
It rang four times before he answered, all the while I prayed that Koda would be enough to keep whomever or whatever was at the backdoor away until I could get Casten here.
“Casten?” I whispered into my phone.
“Why are you whispering?” he asked.
Anxiety and fear pulsed through my body.
“I think there’s someone outside your backdoor. Koda is going nuts,” I explained my reasoning.
“Shit,” he hissed. “The alarm’s set. And I have a gun under my pillow. Do you know how to use a gun?”
I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me.
“I do,” I told him.
“Go get it. Get into my closet. Don’t come out until I’m there, okay?”
“Okay,” I said, going to the closet and opening the door, purposefully forgetting the gun.
I couldn’t see what was there, but I knew from the small glimpse I’d had a few days ago that the bottom was full of shoes and clothes-filled trash bags.
I trudged in there, though, doing my best to cover my body with the bags and clothes before I said, “I’m there.”
“Good,” he said.
Even through the phone, I could hear the intent to maim and kill in his voice.
I’d never heard that from him before.
He sounded scary.
“Okay,” I whispered.
“Quiet,” he ordered. “Leave the phone on but put it on the floor away from you.”
I did as he said, not saying another word as I waited for Casten to get there.
I knew why I didn’t call the cops.
Koda.
Koda didn’t do well with strangers, and she wouldn’t care if she was attacking a cop or a bad guy.
If they were in her territory, then they were the enemy…and I didn’t want them to hurt Koda if they did come.
Which, apparently, was in vain because, within five minutes or less, the glass to, what I guessed to be, the backdoor shattered into what sounded like a million tiny pieces.
