“Morning, my beauty,” he rumbled. “Did you sleep well?”

I turned in his embrace to grin up at him. “Except for the couple of times you woke me up to give me more orgasms, I slept like a rock because you wore me out.”

“Damn straight, I did.”

He pressed a kiss over the pulse point on my neck, making me shudder. I narrowed my eyes at his knowing chuckle but then whimpered in protest when he pulled away to crawl off the bed. “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to make breakfast.” He tugged on a pair of sleep pants before patting his six-pack abs. “I figure if I’m starved, you have to at least be hungry.”

As though it understood that he was talking about food, my stomach rumbled. I giggled with a sigh. “Sounds like I am.”

“Then I guess I’d better feed you.”

He had kissed every inch of my body last night, but I waited until he padded out of the bedroom before I slid out from beneath the sheet and crawled off the mattress. The dress I wore to our lunch date was a crumpled mess on the floor, so I borrowed Silas’s shirt. As I rolled up the sleeves after doing up a few of the buttons on the front, I tilted my head to the side to inhale his masculine scent.

Wearing his shirt felt as though I still had him wrapped around me. While I used the bathroom and freshened up, I wondered what the chances were that he wouldn’t notice if I tied it around my waist when he took me back to town. Not that I was in any rush to see my parents after what they’d pulled, having that James guy show up at the restaurant like that.

I was used to them thinking they had more of a say than I did in my life decisions, but surprising me with a blind date without any warning was bad, even for them. My dad probably hadn’t even stopped to consider that I’d be freaked out to find some stranger lying in wait for me at the restaurant. It just drove home how little my feelings mattered to them. And made me more determined to break free. Sooner rather than later.

Mulling over the odds of finding a job nearby that didn’t require a college degree, I headed out to where Silas was cooking. When he glanced up with a smile, I almost word vomited everything I was thinking, but I bit my thoughts back at the last second. Although I was apparently the kind of girl who immediately wanted to change her whole life for the guy who took her virginity, I didn’t want to scare Silas off by telling him I was ready to move into his cabin after one night together.

Instead, I pasted a smile on my face and asked, “What are you making?”

“Since you missed out on the cake at Lady M, I thought we’d have crepes.” He expertly flipped over the thin pancake and jerked his chin toward a couple of lemons on the counter. “I don’t have any cream to fill them with, but I can do them the traditional way with freshly squeezed lemon and sugar.”

“Wow,” I breathed. “Just when I thought you couldn’t get any better, you go and do something so thoughtful.”

He removed the crepe and plopped it onto the stack already on a plate. “There were only so many things I could make with what I have on hand, and I didn’t want to serve you cereal and milk our first morning together.”

Warmth spread through my chest over how he was downplaying his gesture. Since he tended to keep to himself with the exception of his sister, he probably wasn’t used to compliments. Even if we only ended up having until the end of my trip together, I vowed to thank him whenever he did something that deserved to be acknowledged. Based on our short time together, I would probably be giving him a heck of a lot of praise because he was the most considerate person I’d ever met.

“Crepes sound wonderful, but I also would’ve been good with cereal, as long as it’s something sugary. None of that wheat bran stuff for me.” I gave an exaggerated shudder. “That’s all my mom ever buys, and I avoid it like the plague now.”

“We’re a perfect match when it comes to that, too.” He reached up to open the cabinet to his left, where several boxes of my favorite cereals were stored.

“Nice.” I moved closer to peer at the plate of crepes. “Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Yup.” He set down the spatula and turned to me with a nod.

“With what?”

He fisted the hair at the back of my neck to tilt my head back. “Give me something that I’m hungry for more than breakfast. A kiss.”
