I squeezed my eyes shut and willed myself not to cry. Had he said that to other women after sleeping with them? His words already felt like a goodbye that I wasn’t sure was coming or not.

When he lifted his head and met my gaze, I forced myself to smile.

“That was…it was… I can’t put into words how amazing it was. Thank you.”

He tapped the tip of my nose. “I’m glad, and you don’t need to thank me, Lili. I enjoyed it as much as you.”

Moving slowly, he pulled out of me and quickly got off the bed. I watched as he pulled a condom off and headed toward his bathroom.

Chewing on my lower lip, I realized I hadn’t even thought about protection. My face heated at how swept up I’d been that I would have completely forgotten that. At least one of us was being responsible.

Caden returned with a washcloth, crawled onto the bed, and grinned. God, he had the most beautiful smile.

“Spread for me and let me get you cleaned up.”

Okay, this is hot. Do all men do this after sex?

I’d have to ask the girls. No, I’d ask Moreen—because how weird would that be to ask Caden’s sisters?

“Are you sore?” he asked. “Do you want to take a bath?”

I screwed up my face and said, “I’m actually starving.”

I was gifted with another smile. “It’s five in the morning, so I’m not surprised you’re hungry. I can help with that, too.”

He headed back into the bathroom and emerged with a robe.

“So we slept all night?” I asked, as he handed me the robe.

“We did. Put this on, it’ll keep you warm while I make us something to eat.”

Slipping out of bed, I put on the robe and watched as Caden put on sweatpants and a T-shirt. The fact that he had nothing on underneath the sweatpants made me want to drag him back to bed.

He reached for my hand, and I placed it in his. Drawing me close, he kissed me, and Lord, I could get lost in his kisses if I wasn’t careful.

What in the hell was wrong with this Rachel woman? If this was Caden not giving himself to anyone, what would he be like when he was in love with you? My stomach did a little flip at the unthinkable idea—or maybe the possibility.

Then a traitorous thought popped into my head. Was he this sweet and tender with Millie?

I frowned.

Caden chuckled. “Oh boy, you’re frowning. Let’s get you fed.”

Caden

Lilibeth held tight to my hand as I led her out of my room and down the hall to the kitchen. My head spun as I tried to navigate the different emotions I was feeling. What just happened in my bedroom was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I’d never felt like that before with anyone, not even Rachel…and that realization was throwing me for a fucking loop.

Was it just because I knew she was a virgin, completely untouched? Had that somehow made all of this feel so different?

Seeing Lilibeth in my robe, knowing she was naked underneath, was driving me insane, and I made a mental note to try to keep my eyes off her while I cooked.

“What do you want me to do?” she asked.

I winked. “You just sit there and let me make you something to eat.”

Her brows rose, and her cheeks flushed slightly. “I don’t mind helping.”

It wasn’t lost on me how completely different Lilibeth was from Rachel in just about every way. Rachel would have stayed in bed, expecting me to bring her food, and, while I was at it, go out and find fresh flowers. Maybe that was also why this seemed so unlike any other time I’d been with a woman. Lilibeth was just…different. A good kind of different.

With a quick shake of my head, I pushed all thoughts of Rachel—and any other woman, for that matter—far away.

“I want to cook for you,” I finally answered, “you’re my guest, after all. Plus, my mother would be furious if you’d been lost in a snowstorm and she found out I brought you home just to cook for me.”

Her hair was a mess, but damn if she wasn’t the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. And I truly meant it. When I’d said as much to her earlier, something like doubt crossed her face, and I wanted to kiss away any negative thoughts she was having.

“Are you sore?” I asked again, reaching for a frying pan.

“A bit, but nothing too bad.”

I glanced over my shoulder. “No regrets?”

She shook her head. “None. Are you sure I can’t do anything?”

“Tell me you like French toast.”

She grinned. “I love French toast.”

I got to work with the bacon. “Good, because I make a damn good French toast.”

“Really? What makes it so damn good?”

“Vanilla and pumpkin spice added to the eggs.”
