The baby’s profile appeared, with one little arm up to their mouth.
“Looks like baby might be trying to figure out how to suck his or her thumb.”
“That’s amazing,” I whispered, as I leaned in closer to look. “What is all of that?” I asked, as things started to appear on the screen that were unrecognizable. “Is that the umbilical cord?”
“It is. Good eye, Caden.” Turning to look at us, she asked, “Do we want to know if it’s a boy or a girl?”
Lilibeth nodded and wiped more tears away. “Yes. We’d like to know.”
She moved the transducer around a bit on her stomach, paused the screen and smiled. Lilibeth squeezed my hand, and I realized I was holding my breath.
Dr. Lawrence started to type.
It’s a girl.
Another sob slipped free from Lilibeth.
“It’s a girl?” I asked, as I read the sentence over and over. “We’re having a girl!”
Dr. Lawrence smiled. “It’s a girl.”
Now I couldn’t stop myself. I bent down and kissed Lilibeth. “We’re having a little girl.”
She nodded as tears fell down the sides of her cheeks. “I knew it was a girl. I just knew it!”
“Let’s listen to the baby’s heartbeat.”
The room suddenly filled with the sounds of our child’s beating heart. I let go of Lilibeth’s hands and stumbled back to drop into a seat.
I stared at the monitor. “A girl.”
Instantly, a movie played in my head of a little girl with curly light-brown hair, her braids woven with flowers, playing in the front yard, Lilibeth chasing after her.
“Heartbeat is perfect at one sixty-one. All looks amazing.”
The next thing I knew, I was helping Lilibeth into the truck as she clutched the pictures and digital copy of the entire sonogram. She leaned her head back against the seat, a smile on her beautiful face.
I pulled out of the lot, and it wasn’t two minutes later that I heard snoring. I looked over at Lilibeth, passed out, her lips hanging open and a bit of drool coming out of the side of her mouth.
I chuckled and focused back on the road.
There was no doubt in my mind—I was head over heels in love with Lilibeth Asher.
Lilibeth
The sound of the bedroom door opening caused me to lift my head from the bed.
“What are you doing?” Caden asked, moving into the room with that sexy-as-hell smirk on his face.
“I can’t sleep.”
He opened his robe to reveal that he was naked underneath. “I bet I can help tire you out.”
“Oh, please do!” I nearly begged, as I felt my lower stomach pull with desire.
“Spread your legs, Lili. Let me taste you.”
The moment his mouth was on me, I moaned in pleasure.
“Lilibeth?”
I jolted awake to the sound of my name. I glanced around and realized I was in Caden’s truck. I felt drool on my cheek and quickly wiped it away. Glancing to my right, I saw Caden standing there, the passenger door open. He wore a sexy smile that lit his eyes.
“Dreaming?”
I let out a breath, dropped my head back, and nodded. “A really good dream.”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. We’re home though.”
With another sigh, this one so pathetic-sounding I should’ve been embarrassed, I took his hand and slid out of the truck. Once inside, I took off my coat and turned to Caden. I was so horny from the dream, and I knew he wasn’t about to do anything. He hadn’t even tried since we’d started dating. Yes, he’d kissed me and left me breathless, but he hadn’t attempted anything more. And I was ready to scream. I needed to be touched. To get some of this pent-up energy out.
“I’m going up to my room to…take a bath.”
I turned to head up the steps when Caden took my hand. He drew me to him, and the feel of his body against mine was heavenly and torturous all at once.
“I’ve been trying to go slow, so that you knew I wasn’t just in this for the sex, Lili.”
My heart thundered in my chest as I searched his face. “I know that’s not what this is. But I’ve been going out of my mind trying to figure out why you haven’t been doing…more.”
He smiled and pushed a stray piece of hair that fell from my ponytail behind my ear. He studied me, and when his gaze met mine, I drew in a breath. I’d seen that look before in his eyes. They were dark and filled with desire.
“Do you want more?” he asked, his voice dripping with lust.
Leaning down, he kissed along my jaw, and my head fell back. “Yes, Caden. God, yes.”
He sucked on my earlobe before he whispered, “Tell me what you want from me, Lili.”
My eyes closed, and I nearly moaned. “Everything.”
He chuckled, and it vibrated through my entire body.
“My hands on your body?”
I swayed. “Yes.”
“Should I kiss you…everywhere?”
A breath of air whooshed from my lips as I gasped. “Yes!”
