Looking down at his son strapped to his chest, he stroked his head and pressed his face against his son’s head, breathing him in. He loved the smell of his babies.
“More carolers?” Kelley asked, stepping out of the kitchen with their eldest child, Meredith, on her hip. Nearly two years old, and already loving Christmas. It was a miracle she wasn’t talking. Their little girl had found her voice and all she did was talk, which was adorable, but sometimes he missed the quiet. She even talked in her sleep.
However, today, Christmas Eve, they had kept her busy. She’d woken up early and was determined to stay awake to see Santa. She wanted to talk to him about being a good girl.
His son, Bruno, was fast asleep.
His children were like chalk and cheese.
Kelley held out the popcorn for him to steal from the bowl. Their home was fully decorated for Christmas. The scent of her baking still filled the air. They had containers of homemade cookies in a variety of flavors in every room. The guys from the club would visit, purely to be given a treat.
Crow knew he had hit the jackpot with his woman. Kelley had been nervous about getting married. She had worried he would regret leaving the open road. He didn’t. It was the best decision he ever made.
The ring on Kelley’s finger declared her as his and his alone. Their children were the first two of many he intended to give her.
They had shared many memories already, and he’d even been here for the Halloweens he’d missed. He was not going to miss anything from now on.
Kelley was his soul, and he was glad he had woken up and realized what he had before he lost it. Finally, he had a woman who loved him, children he adored, and a life he never wanted to leave. There was nothing better.
The open road was a cold place, but he had found home. It had happened at Christmas, so it was his little miracle.
