Hi,

I saw your ad looking for a flatmate and wondered if you were still looking for someone? I’m going to be doing a semester at the University of Oxford, and my original housing plans fell through, so now I’m scrambling to find a new place to live. Your flat looks close to the campus, and I think it would be a perfect fit.

Please let me know if it’s still available.

Avery,

Yes, I’m still looking for a flatmate. Oxford University is only about a ten-minute walk from the front door. I’m sure you saw in the listing, but it’s a two-bedroom, two bathrooms. I travel a lot for work so I won’t be there much, which is why I wanted a flatmate. It will be nice to know that someone is there to watch the place.

I’m a bit of a neat freak, so I’m looking for someone who won’t be too messy and can clean up after themselves. Would you mind telling me a little more about yourself? What are you studying, and what dates would you be here?

Sincerely,

Oliver

Oliver,

I’m a neat freak too! You won’t have to worry about messes or anything, and I would help with cleaning and cooking. I love to cook, so I don’t mind making dinner and stuff for both of us. When you’re in town, that is.

I’m studying English Literature and hoping to become an editor in a publishing house after I graduate. I only have one more year left to go until I graduate. It’s always been my dream to attend Oxford and see all of England. I want to see where Shakespeare wrote and the architecture and places that inspired so many wonderful stories. I’m at New York University right now, but I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, and I’m excited to get out and see more of the world than farmland or New York.

What do you do for a living?

I’ll be there July 24th to December 20th. I’m coming a few days before the start of semester, if that’s okay?

Looking forward to your reply.

Avery,

I’m a management consultant. I travel around to different companies and come up with ways for them to be more productive or save money.

This sounds like a good fit. The room is yours. I’ll take the listing down.

Will you be moving in on the 24th? Or are you going to travel around a bit before you come here?

Sincerely,

Oliver

Oliver,

Oh, thank you so much! I was starting to panic, thinking I wouldn’t have anywhere to live.

Yes, I’ll be moving in on the 24th. I land early in the morning, and I’m only bringing a couple of suitcases so it shouldn’t be hard to get everything to your flat.

Classes don’t start until the beginning of August, so it will give me time to get settled and look around a little bit before I have to focus on school.

Can’t wait to meet you. I know we’re going to get along great.

Thanks again,

Avery

Avery,

I’ll be heading out of town the day after you get here, but that should be enough time to help get you settled here. I’ll be gone for a week.

You probably don’t have your phone set up for over here yet, but here’s my phone number in case you need to get in touch with me about the flat. +44 7911 223809

Once you get into the UK, you’ll have to dial 07911 223809

I have work that day, but let me know when you’re supposed to land, and maybe I can pick you up from the airport so you don’t have to grab a taxi or Uber.

See you soon,

Oliver
