Charles grins. “Oops.”
“Yeah, oops,” I laugh, smacking him playfully on the chest. “That’s your fault.”
“My fault!?”
“If you hadn’t pulled my dress up when I was cutting the asparagus—”
“Yeah, well if you hadn’t looked so damn sexy in that dress,” he replies. “Then maybe I could have controlled myself.”
The phone buzzes again.
“All right!” I yell at it as I sit up.
We both groan as Robert slips out of me.
It’s been six years since I last saw Clarice—when she accused me of not knowing what I want to do with my life. But if I ever do see her again, I’ll tell her.
My life’s calling is being a mother. Being a wife. Taking care of my child and pleasing my husband. I’ve even gotten into writing cozy mysteries. I’m going to publish my first one online soon. I’m excited, but also terrified that people won’t like it.
“They’ll love it,” Robert keeps telling me. “You’re an incredible author.”
People thought they could plan my life for me. But when I finally got to choose, this is what I chose.
And to think that I was once worried I’d never meet a man.
