Yamal strokes a lock of my hair. “If all the human females arrive with this odd desire to be covered, we may have to see about arranging for them to wear clothes.”
Julan shakes his head. “We won’t worry about that today. My only concern is her health. You will examine her, make sure she’s getting enough oxygen, and ensure that her digestive system is compatible with our nutrients. I do have a few concerns already. One is that she can’t seem to hold her head up. Two is that she’s cold.”
Yamal nods. “I’ll see what I can ascertain.” He pats the table again.
Julan lowers me, but I find another burst of strength and hold on tight. “Please don’t put me down, Daddy.” I’m hoping that if I call him by the endearment he prefers, it will make him less frustrated with me.
I have the oddest sense that I need to be held by him. I want to be pressed against him. I think he agrees.
He hugs me closer and rubs my back. “Be a good girl for me and let the doctor examine you. It’s important I know how to take good care of you. If you’re cooperative, I’ll reward you. If you’re not, I’ll discipline you.”
I pout. I haven’t experienced discipline since I was a small child. “I’m not a baby,” I grumble.
He grips my chin again. “To me, you are an infant. How many years do you have?”
“Twenty,” I inform him.
“Well, I have ninety, so you’re a newborn by Venkorian standards. In addition, you do not know our customs. I can’t be sure of your intelligence or ability to learn. I intend to train you to obey me. If you prove capable of following simple instructions, perhaps you will earn more freedom. Until then, your insolence will land you over my knees. I will not hesitate to spank your bottom. Understood?”
I tremble in his arms, sensing I should keep my mouth shut. For now. I’m not giving up. I will prove to this man that I’m not a pet. I’m a human. But now is not the time to continue pressing my case. “Yes, Daddy.”
THREE
The loss I feel as he sets me on the table is tremendous, and based on Julan’s hesitation when he parts from me, I think he feels the same strange reluctance. I don’t understand, but he doesn’t seem to either.
“Arms up, Little pet.”
I shiver as I do as I’m told, letting him remove my dress. It’s hard to lift my arms as high as needed, and they fall back to my sides immediately. It takes a lot of effort, but I bring them to my chest and cover my exposed breasts.
Yamal rubs his chin, his brows furrowed. “I suspect our gravitational pull is more than she’s used to.”
I shift my gaze to him. I think he’s right. That makes sense. Why didn’t I think of that? “Will I get used to it?”
Yamal nods. “I suspect you will. In time. I assume you usually walk on two legs?”
I flinch. “Of course I walk on two legs,” I nearly shout. These men are frustrating me.
Julan grips my chin. “Tone, Little pet. You will not speak to me or anyone else like that. You are my pet. You will learn your place. You will be respectful.”
My face heats. I want to slap him, but the irony is that I wouldn’t be able to make an impact with my heavy hands.
He lifts a brow. “Have I made myself clear?”
I swallow. “Yes, Daddy.”
“Apologize to Yamal.”
My heart is racing. I’m so angry. But I face the doctor. “I’m sorry, Sir.”
He nods again slowly, seeming very perplexed by me. Finally, he turns toward Julan. “I doubt she’ll have the strength to stand upright for some time. It wouldn’t be safe either. She might fall and injure herself. It will be best to insist she remain on all fours until we know more and her muscles improve. No climbing. No pulling herself up. She’s more stubborn than I expected. You’ll want to kennel her when you aren’t actively keeping an eye on her. Leash her. She needs to learn to stay by your side on all fours. She will have bad habits you’ll want to break anyway. She can earn more freedom gradually as she proves trainable.”
I gasp and jerk my gaze to Julan. “I’m not a pet,” I argue again. “I don’t need training.” It’s impossible to hold my tongue.
Julan purses his lips a second before he grabs me by the hips and flips me over so fast that I don’t know what’s happening before I find myself lying on my stomach on the table. “Hold her torso for me, Yamal.”
The doctor grabs my arms, bends them to the small of my back, and traps me down.
I start crying. “Please, Daddy. I’ll be good.”
