The radio plays something generic. Lily sings along, making up harmonies that shouldn’t work but do. Darian joins in, deliberately off-key to make us laugh. I add my voice to theirs.
“Turn it up,” I tell Darian. He does. Windows down, our voices mixing with the wind and radio and the distant festival sounds.
Tomorrow there will be contracts to review and tours to plan. New songs to write. Bills to pay and family dinners.
But tonight we’re three people in a car, singing badly and laughing harder.
The festival lights disappear behind us.
“Where to?” Darian asks as we pull onto the main road.
“Doesn’t matter,” I say, looking at him, at Lily already planning our European tour on her phone. “We’re good.”
