He comes with me, jaw clenched, and his breath ragged against my skin as he follows me over the edge. Hot, pulsing waves of cum shoot deep inside of me as he holds me there like he can keep the entire world from collapsing if he just grasps me tight enough.

My high is everything, and for a single moment, there’s nothing but us. No fire. No wreckage. No agency trying to take me out.

Then reality slams back in.

The flames lick through the front of the car with a violent whoosh, heat blasting across my back. Smoke floods the interior in thick, choking waves, and I realize this is it. Our moment of pleasure is long gone, and if we don’t get our asses out of here, then this is where our story will end, and it would have all been for nothing.

“Kiara,” he snaps, already shifting, lifting me off him, feeling that same urgency.

Adrenaline courses through my veins, and we move at the same time, me reaching up to grip the frame of the sunroof, the twisted metal already burning hot under my fingers.

“Go,” he orders, as though I’m not already working on it, but I don’t argue. Now isn’t the time.

Ignoring the sting of heat biting at my arms and legs, I haul myself through the opening at the same time that Raiden grabs my ass and pushes me higher. My palms scrape the metal as I drag my body up and out, the cool desert night already soothing against my hot skin.

Behind me, the interior ignites, and I suck in a feared gasp, watching as Raiden follows behind me, flames licking at his legs as he squeezes his big body through the small opening, his broad shoulders catching on the metal frame.

“Fuck,” he grunts, getting through just as the flames spread to the backseat, the upholstery going up with a violent boom.

The flames catch on the back of his shirt as he jumps down from the crumpled car, and I madly swat at them while his only concern is to grab me and race as far from the car as possible. Then, before we even get a few feet away, the car erupts behind us, ammo and grenades from our bags of weapons madly going off like fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Deadly fireworks.

The momentum from the blow sends us sprawling across the desert, my chest slamming against the hard ground as Raiden covers me with his big body. “Fuck, stay down, Firecracker.”

The explosions just keep coming like constant loud cracks through the night, and as he madly covers me, I can’t help but laugh. “You know, I bet those rounds have better aim than you did when trying to shoot Alistair.”

He groans in my ear. “You’re fucking impossible.”

“You think because you got me to admit that I might have some kind of delusional affection toward you that I’d stop giving you a hard time? Not possible. It’s ingrained into my DNA. If I ever stop, that’s when you’ll know to send me to a hospital.”

Once the explosions cease, and we’ve decided there couldn’t possibly be anything left to explode, we lie there for a moment, chests heaving, sand sticking to sweat-slick skin, staring up at the endless desert sky.

Our car is gone. All five of the SUVs are totaled. And somehow, we’re still breathing.

Raiden turns his head toward me, eyes dark and alive and entirely too satisfied for someone who just crawled out of a burning wreck.

“Maybe fucking in the burning car wasn’t the best idea,” he says hoarsely, his throat clearly affected by the smoke.

I laugh as I push up onto my elbows, watching the flames devour what’s left of our ride. “No,” I say, completely unapologetic. “It was a fucking incredible idea.”

Raiden shakes his head, gets to his feet, and offers me his hand. He pulls my exhausted body from the ground before looking me over, checking for any injuries that need immediate attention, but apart from almost giving myself smoke inhalation, I’m fine. There are plenty of little cuts and scratches on both of us but nothing to really complain about.

“Here,” he says a moment later, pulling his scorched shirt over his head and handing it to me.

My brows furrow, hesitantly taking the shirt. “What’s this for?”

“You’re standing there like a sexy Winnie the Pooh with your little cropped shirt and no pants.”

Glancing down, I bark a laugh. It hadn’t even occurred to me that I was half-naked. All that mattered was getting off and then getting out. I didn’t even think about scrambling for my boots or pants, and now it’s far too late.

Letting out a sigh, I pull Raiden’s shirt over my head, letting the fabric fall almost to my knees before looking out at the darkened night ahead, only lit by the slightest glow of moonlight. “Shit. This is going to be a long walk.”
