“Fuck,” he whispered over my lips. He circled his tongue over mine in slow, firm strokes.
The ache beneath my panties grew as I imagined what that tongue would feel like between my legs. As our bodies pressed together, I felt like an animal in heat, unable to get close enough to him. And I could feel his cock threatening to burst through the crotch of his pants. I wanted to reach down and cup it in my hand, but didn’t want to put him in the position to reject me. He’d made up his mind about not going any further than this, and I needed to respect that, just like he’d chosen to respect me.
Still, I confessed, “I want you so badly.”
He leaned his forehead against mine. “You have no idea how much I want to fuck you, Blair. My decision has nothing to do with a lack of desire. I want to do things to you that you can’t even imagine. Believe me, I have imagined it all.”
Arousal pooled between my legs. “Is that what you do when you go back to your room at night? Imagine what you could actually be doing if you stopped being chicken?”
He groaned. “What happened to your vow to stop taunting me?”
“You pressed your cock against me. That’s what happened. All bets are off now.”
He slid his hands down my back. “Probably shouldn’t have done that.” He stopped short of touching my ass and took me by the hand, leading me over to a spot on the sand.
We sat together, looking up at the bright moon.
“Life is funny, isn’t it?” I said. “Out of all the people in the world, we met each other here, both alone and craving companionship.”
He took my hand again, looping his fingers through mine. “I definitely don’t believe in accidents.”
“You think someone up there orchestrated this? Got inside my head, ordered me to get buzzed off of one margarita and go on that app so I could meet you?”
Tate turned to me and smiled, his eyes sparkling in the moonlight. “I can’t tell you how it happened, but it feels like I was meant to have this experience with you. You’ve breathed new life into me.”
Looking out at the waves, I sighed. “This would be a nice way to end, wouldn’t it?”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“Our story. Rather than sticking it out for another sexually torturous day and enduring a sad goodbye… It would be nice if after everything, we could just snap our fingers right now and disappear without having to experience discomfort. We could both go back to our respective homes unscathed.”
He blinked, seeming perplexed by my sudden wish for less time. “You’d really want that, rather than spending one more day together?”
“I’m not sure. I’m getting attached to you. Might be better to rip the Band-Aid off sooner rather than later.”
I wasn’t sure if I believed my words or was just curious about his reaction. But it did make some sense not to prolong the agony.
“Okay.” He squeezed my hand. “Well, we’ll have to agree to disagree then, because I wouldn’t be happy at all if our time together ended right now.”
“You like me.” I grinned.
“I do,” he said softly, bringing my hand to his mouth and kissing it. “God help me, I do.”
That seemed like a great note to leave on, so I let go of his hand, got up, and started to walk back toward the building.
He stood. “Where are you going?”
I walked backward. “In the spirit of quitting while I’m ahead…it’s late. I should go back to my room. I think the longer we stay up together, the more trouble you might almost get yourself into with me. So I’m trying to spare you.”
“I promise to be good, if you want to hang out more.”
“Well, I can’t promise to be good, so…” I shrugged. “I’d better go.”
I waved, then turned and sauntered off. While leaving him was the last thing I wanted, I needed to keep him wanting more.

Shortly after I got to my room, the phone on the nightstand rang. It had never rung before, so it startled me.
“Hello?”
“Hey…” Tate’s voice sounded gravelly.
“I never realized you could just call my room.”
“Yeah. That’s what we used to do in the olden days.”
I laughed. “How did you know my number?”
“You told me your room number. And that’s all you need. It’s free to call from room to room within the resort.”
“Nice. I didn’t realize that.” I cleared my throat. “What’s up?”
Tate hesitated. “Did I upset you tonight?”
“No, of course not. Why do you think that?”
“You left me so suddenly. I didn’t think our night was over yet.”
His bedroom voice felt like a massage to my soul. I lay back on the bed and made myself comfortable.
I wound my index finger around the phone cord. “Didn’t we have enough excitement for one evening?”
