I snorted and grabbed her thigh, drawing her leg over mine. “Don’t give a fuck about your razor blade hairs, doll.” She quietly laughed. I shut my eyes, the drone of the TV lulling me to sleep. “Just wasn’t expecting it.”

She snorted. “Don’t lie. It’s not a good look on you.”

I turned my head and cracked an eye open to look at her. An amused smirk was playing at the corner of her lips. I grunted and closed my eyes again, running my hand down her prickly leg. “Shut up and go to sleep, woman.”

“You better not snore,” she muttered as she slid closer to me, pressing her body against my side. Her fingers wrapped around my arm, her head resting on the pillow next to me.

“I don’t snore,” I grumbled.

She laughed softly. “We’ll see.”

I stared at the coffee pot as if it would somehow make it brew the dark liquid faster. I was tired as hell still. I was up earlier than I normally would be on a work day considering I had to go back to the clubhouse, shower, and get dressed in clean clothes. I was definitely feeling the earlier hour.

Lennox dragged her feet as she walked into the dimly lit kitchen, blinking at me through sleepy eyes. “Why the fuck are you up?” she mumbled.

“Work,” I told her quietly, my voice still thick with sleep. “I have to head to the clubhouse first.”

She rubbed her eyes, yawning. “Your job fucking sucks.”

I snorted. “I’m part owner, doll,” I reminded her. The coffee maker finally beeped, and I immediately grabbed the pot to pour myself a cup. I glanced over at her once I was done filling up my mug. “Why don’t you go on back to bed?”

She yawned again and shook her head. “No. I can head into the gym and get in a workout before my shift starts.”

I cringed. “I’d rather douse myself in gasoline.” The thought of getting out of bed and heading straight to a gym disgusted me. Who the fuck wanted to just go work out? Certainly not me. I was just fine with getting my workout from work. My stomach was flat, and I had muscles from hard labor. That was good enough for me.

Lennox snorted and nudged me aside so she could pour herself a mug of coffee as well. “Go on and head out,” she told me, taking a glance at the clock on the stove. “If you don’t leave now, you’ll be late.”

I sighed. I knew she was right, but fuck, I didn’t want to leave her. I wanted to stay here with her all day. Especially since I didn’t trust her ex to stay the fuck away. Not being around her, close enough to protect her, made me feel a little displaced. Like something in my life wasn’t right.

I curled my fingers around her chin and tipped her face up so I could plant a soft kiss on her lips. “Be safe today, you hear me? And if you need me, call me. I promise I’ll drop everything and come to you.”

Her eyes softened. “Okay,” she said quietly.

I brushed my fingertips over her cheek before I dropped my hand. After downing the rest of the hot coffee, scalding the roof of my mouth in the process, I snatched my keys off the counter and headed for the front door.

I really didn’t want to leave her alone. Definitely didn’t want to let her out of my sight. But we both had jobs, and I had to have faith she’d do the right thing if her ex decided to start some shit again.

And if he did… well, he would have me to deal with. And I wasn’t afraid of prison.

If he came after her, I’d smile in my mother fucking mugshot.

“Beau said you and Harlan were pretty cozy yesterday,” Mikayla said as I handed her a cup to replace the one someone had bought earlier today from the shelf.

I rolled my eyes. “Your husband needs to mind his own business.”

She snickered and stepped down from the footstool. “Everyone is waiting on Harlan to bring you around, especially after he called Adler for help getting you out of jail and getting you an attorney.” I followed her to her office, rolling my eyes. They were looking too deeply into shit, as usual. “Harlan doesn’t bend over backward to help just anyone, Lennox.”

I sighed. “We’re having fun,” I told her. “Really, that’s it.” I was doing my damnest to keep my heart out of this mess with Harlan. It was hard when he was going out of his way to help me and protect me. Mikayla was only making it harder when she said things like this. It made me hope.

Hope was dangerous. I didn’t want to walk away heartbroken when Harlan finally had enough fun and ended things between us.
