Winston disappears, the door shutting behind him and leaving us in the company of this young goddess.

“Welcome to our spread, Katherine,” my brother says. “It seems we’ve met before,” he adds in an amused tone.

The young woman shakes as she stands before us. She literally trembles, those big boobs bobbling.

“This has been a huge mistake,” she mumbles, staring at the ground. “I’m so sorry this happened, and I’ll get out of your hair immediately.”

This time, she really does turn to go but I sprint from my desk to the door, blocking her way. Man oh man, she’s even more beautiful up close, and a sweet scent fills my nostrils at her proximity. The young woman’s long blonde hair trails down her back, her big blue eyes are wide and alarmed, and that busty figure is highlighted by a pink t-shirt that stretches over her huge tits, and skin-tight jeans that hug her wide ass. Hell, she’s so curvy she resembles Marilyn Monroe. Strike that: not Marilyn Monroe, but Jayne Mansfield. The new ranch hand reminds me of the platinum-haired actress with the same curvy figure and innocent expression.

Unfortunately, she’s also hellbent on making an escape.

“Out of my way,” she mutters, refusing to meet my eyes.

I smile lazily, like a predator that has prey in its sights.

“Not so fast,” I drawl. “Like my brother said, we’ve met before. As in, last night at the Starlight Saloon. In fact, I think we were even intimate, were we not?”

Her blue eyes shoot sparks at me, which is almost cute seeing that I’m a head taller than the petite blonde. She reminds me of a gorgeous kitten, playful while also believing she’s a tiger.

“Yes, but I didn’t realize it at the time. I had no idea that you’d be my bosses,” she manages between clenched teeth.

Colt comes to stand beside us, his huge form also looming over Katherine.

“Well, the world is full of surprises, isn’t it?” he drawls, sharing a glance with me. “And it’s a fortuitous one too. We’re happy to have you at the Double C, Katherine.”

“Kiki,” she manages in a stilted voice. “No one calls me Katherine.”

My brother and I share a glance.

“Wow, we thought Kiki was a stage name, but evidently ladies of the night use their real names when performing these days.”

The young woman puts her hands on her hips, clearly miffed now. Her blue eyes shoot sparks, and she’s even more attractive than before.

“You know what? Just forget you ever met me. I’m sure there are a ton of dudes dying to work at the Double C, and a boatload of ladies dying to get into your bed. Seeing that you’re overbooked, I don’t need to be a part of this. I’ll go now.”

This time, it’s Colt who blocks her path.

“Not so fast, sweetheart. We know each other well. Maybe not personality-wise,” my brother amends, “but at least biblically. So why don’t we talk? We’d love to know more about you, sweetheart.”

Kiki looks to protest again, but then seats herself unceremoniously on a nearby chair.

“Fine,” she says in a grumpy voice. “Talk.”

Meanwhile, my eyes sear over her lush, feminine figure because she’s young, beautiful, and obviously very irate. Still, she looks healthy, radiant, and best of all, wholesome despite emanating anger from every bone in her body. What were the chances? My brother and I were looking for a woman to bring to our next family function … and it seems like she just walked in the door.

Kiki

This is my worst nightmare come true. How can this be happening? Oh my god.

I told you not to go up on stage last night, the voice in my head smirks. See, now you regret it.

I grit my teeth, willing my subconscious to be silent. Seriously, no one thinks they’re going to meet a customer out in the real world, but it’s happened before. Not to me, fortunately, but other girls I know say they’ve bumped into customers at the grocery store, or even worse, they’ve bumped into a customer’s wife or girlfriend. It’s bad, but a lot of these dudes are actually in a relationship, and they use Sweet Lies for a variety of reasons. Still, I’m now in the boonies of Montana, so how the hell did this happen? What were the chances that the hot guys from last night would be my new bosses? And why now, of all times, when I was trying to start a new life?

That’s just how the cookie crumbles, my subconscious speaks glumly. You’re shit out of luck, Kiki.

I grit my teeth again because I’m not an unlucky girl. I won’t be that woman who’s always whining and complaining about how life has beat her down. How she’s always a victim of unfortunate circumstances, and how she never catches a break. Sometimes, thinking is believing, and I can’t let myself fall into that hole of endless self-pity and victimization.
