We renovated the inside of the ambulance together and it took about four months to get it just right. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Julian and Aiden helped at times and the final product looks amazing. It’s set up perfectly for me and business has been very promising already.

I have a bunch of clients and I haven’t even started advertising yet. It’s all been word of mouth from satisfied customers.

“Colin!” I shout with a laugh when I come back into the living room once I’m ready to go. He’s sitting on the coffee table with Stacy on his lap and they’re taking turns tossing Fruit Loops into the air. Charlie is jumping up and snatching them out of the air, making Stacy squeal in happiness. “You’re supposed to be a good influence on her!”

“I’m teaching her how to throw,” he says with a grin. “Come give us kisses before you leave.”

I kiss my little munchkin on her big cheek, then I kiss my man’s sexy lips, and finally, I kiss Charlie on the top of his head.

“I’ll try to be home before four,” I say as I grab my purse and hurry to the door.

“Take your time,” he says with a smile. “I’ll make your favorite for dinner.”

“Lasagna?” I say with my excitement building.

He grins. “With extra cheese, just how you like it.”

“You’re the best.”

“So are you.”

I blow all three of them a kiss and then hurry to my clinic on wheels. I hate leaving them, but I also feel so invigorated and excited whenever I’m at work, helping animals. It’s been so thrilling to finally get to do what I’ve been wanting to do for my entire life.

I’m so happy that everything worked out. I almost lost the man of my dreams and I won’t make that mistake a second time. I’ll never take him for granted again.

I hop into my car and smile at our beautiful house as I throw the old ambulance into reverse and turn around in the driveway.

Colin comes out onto the porch with Stacy in his arms and with Charlie at his feet. They both wave at me and I feel like the luckiest, most special woman in the world.

I’m excited for the challenging day, but I also can’t wait to get home tonight. Once Stacy is asleep, I’m going to go to town on my big sexy husband.

I’m going to climb up that big hulking mountain man and rock his world.

Just like he’s rocked mine.

Epilogue

Colin

Twenty years later…

I have a date with my hot wife and I can’t wait.

There’s a little bounce in my step as I fix my collar while walking down Main Street. My heart starts beating harder when I spot Molly’s veterinarian clinic up ahead.

Greene Mountains Vet Clinic.

I smile as I open the door and walk inside.

“Excuse me,” I say to the receptionist. “I have a hot date with the hot doctor.”

Stacy laughs. “Hey, Dad,” she says from behind the big wooden reception desk. “Mom is just finishing up some dental surgery in the back. I hear you’re taking her to Bella Vita for dinner. Fancy. What’s the occasion?”

“Dinner with the woman of my dreams is all the reason I need.”

She rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling. “You’re such a big softie.”

I chuckle as I look down the hall, excited to see my wife.

The phone rings and Stacy answers it. “Greene Mountain Vet Clinic, how can I help you?”

I wave to her and then wander into the back.

I stop in the window that looks into the operating room and smile as I watch my amazing girl work. There’s a giant Doberman laying unconscious on the table and Molly is working on his teeth.

She’s so focused. I love the way her forehead wrinkles up like that whenever she’s focused on something. I could watch her for hours.

A loose strand of hair falls onto her face and she blows it off as she works.

I still find it so surreal that I’m with her. I thought I was the luckiest man in the world when I first had her, but then she left and I thought the universe was righting itself. I thought the scales were dipped too far in my favor and her leaving was just them dipping back into the center. One man shouldn’t be that lucky, right? But she did come back and this time, we’re not going to be separated. She’s here to stay.

My heart aches as I watch her. I just want to go in there, wrap my big possessive arms around her, and kiss her like I did when we had been separated for years and were finally reunited.

I still have dreams about that kiss. It’s one I’ll never forget.

Molly must feel eyes on her because she looks up and smiles at me. “Ten minutes,” she mouths.
