“Do you think you can help me too?” I ask Lavender.
She wrinkles her nose. “That’s a big question mark.”
“What size are those pants?” Isaac asks.
“The waist is like a thirty-four, but they were tailored to fit my hockey ass and thighs. Now it’s anyone’s guess.” Tristan shrugs.
“Why don’t you and I trade and see how that goes?” Isaac offers.
Isaac is broader across the shoulders, but he’s narrower at the waist, which would be better than this.
Kodiak compulsively runs his hand through his hair. “Lavender, baby, can’t you work on his pants when they’re off his body?”
She shoots her husband a withering look, but continues to work on the seam on Tristan’s right thigh. “Kodiak, sweetheart, this is my job. I do this all day, every single day. I put costumes on people, and then I alter them while they’re wearing them. I’m at eye level with dick all day long. And sometimes vagina and boobs, and often asses. People’s body parts are in my face constantly.”
I cough to smother a laugh. Kodiak is huge, and one punch would feel like getting hit in the face with a truck. Also, I don’t need a black eye or missing teeth to round out today.
“Kodiak, buddy, why don’t we grab some refreshments for everyone?” Flip suggests.
“Oh! Yes, please! Sweetheart, can you grab me a lavender lemonade? Kiki at the café knows how I like them,” Lavender says.
“Okay. Yeah. I can do that.”
Flip and Kodiak leave the room.
“Will he be okay?” Tristan asks.
“He’ll just need some snuggle time, and then he’ll be fine,” Lavender assures us.
Isaac and I trade pants while Kodiak and Flip get refreshments and Lavender works on Tristan’s crotch.
Isaac’s pants are a decent fit, which is a relief. Hopefully Tristan’s pants will work for him, or he might have to resort to board shorts or linen pants. Isaac and I step out of the changing rooms at the same time. Lavender pauses her mission to make Tristan’s crotch not the sole focus of the day.
Lavender glances between us. “Wow.”
“Those are a decent fit on you.” Isaac nods to my crotch.
“Yeah.”
I can’t say the same for him. The pants are capris on his long legs.
He props his fists on his hips and poses in front of the three-way mirror. “I think they work.” He turns to Sam. “I can rock this look, right?”
“Oh yeah. Just lose the socks.” Sam nods.
“Good call.”
I’m unsure if they’re serious or not until Isaac removes his socks and slips his feet back into his loafers.
“Better?” Isaac asks his brother.
Sam nods his approval.
“You comfortable with my pants?” Isaac gives me two thumbs-up.
“If you’re sure you’re good with mine, then yeah.”
“Perfect. See you when you walk down the aisle, Tristan.”
“All right, man.” Tristan holds out his hand for a fist-bump.
Sam and Isaac step aside as Kodiak and Flip return with drinks. Then they leave the suite and head down the hall. Two women do a double take as they pass Isaac, and not in a shocked way, but more like they’re considering pulling him into an empty room and banging his brains out.
“Only my brother could pull those off.” Hemi rolls her eyes.
“All done!” Lavender stands. She doesn’t even come close to reaching Tristan’s shoulder.
“Thank God.” Kodiak hands her the lavender lemonade. “We should go back to the room. I need a snack before the wedding.” He ushers her out the door.
“Anyone feel like snack is a code word?” I ask.
“It means he’s planning to eat her out. That’s what Dallas does when he’s anxious, too,” Hemi announces, then bites her lips together.
“That’s legit a solid strategy, though,” Tristan muses. “And everyone wins.”
Brody’s ears are going red, but he also seems intrigued.
“Yup. Okay. Well.” Hemi slaps her palms together. “I should check on the girls.” She hustles out the door.
Dad clears his throat. “We should get ready, boys. We don’t want to keep the bride waiting.”
CHAPTER 29
ESSIE
“Do we have everything we need? What about tissues? Do I look okay? My curls aren’t falling, are they? Is my hair frizzy?” Even glancing around wildly, Rix looks like a princess in her flowy island wedding dress.
“You are radiant, and we have everything we need.” I dust her chin and forehead with setting powder.
She pulls me in for a tight hug. “I love you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being my best friend for all these years.”
“There’s nowhere I would rather be, and no one I would rather price match with.”
She smiles, but she still seems nervous, looking past me to the door.
“What is it, Trixie Rixie?”
“I just want today to be perfect,” she whispers.
“Even if there are hiccups, it will be the best day because it’s the start of your forever,” I assure her.
“I don’t want anything to mess this up.”
“Is there anything that could keep you from marrying Tristan?” I ask gently.
