She held up her hands and let him lift her, wrapping her arms around his neck as soon as he had her in his grasp. Her legs went around his waist as she hugged him.
Jayce carried her into the nursery and settled in the rocking chair, arranging her on his lap so she straddled him. He picked up the pacifier hanging from the ribbon. “You like having something to suckle, don’t you, Little one?”
Her cheeks pinkened as she shrugged. “I guess. I’m not a baby, though,” she argued.
“Nope. You’re not a baby. You’re my mate. But it’s traditional for the mates of Alpha Protectors to be spoiled and cherished. If taking a pacifier helps you relax, then you should do so anytime you want. I won’t stop you unless I need you to talk to me.”
She lowered her gaze to his chest. “Okay.”
He lifted her chin with a finger. “No need to be embarrassed.”
“Okay,” she whispered, obviously not believing him.
Suddenly she stiffened. Her face went tight, her mouth fell open, her eyes glassed over, and she stared past him at nothing.
Jayce spread a hand on her back to support her in case she fell to one side and kept the other on her hip. He wouldn’t interrupt whatever she was going through unless she seemed to be in distress.
It fucking killed him, though. He was impotent watching her leave her body and go somewhere else. Thank goodness he’d been expecting something like this to happen. He was surprised they’d made it this long before she had another vision. She hadn’t had one since last night.
Based on the urgency everyone felt in the air, and the fact that they all believed Sienna’s abilities would be crucial to the survival of their pack, he was constantly on edge, waiting for the unknown to happen.
She didn’t move. She didn’t even blink, though her eyes darted around, unseeing. Her spine was rigid, and her jaw was tight. She also wet her diaper, which didn’t phase her, so that case was closed. Obviously, she was going to have similar experiences to Khloe. She wouldn’t like it, but apparently, she was not going to have control over her bladder during an episode.
The next question was what was the difference between Khloe’s abilities and Sienna’s? So far Khloe always had a premonition, advanced warning that something was going to occur. The information was always innocuous. She would see that the bears were about to pay a visit or that another mate was heading toward her. Nothing earth shattering.
But the two visions Sienna had had yesterday didn’t make sense to anyone. They were a mystery. And he wasn’t the only one anxious to solve the puzzle.
Chapter Thirteen
Sienna knew she’d been transported somewhere else. It wasn’t unusual. She was used to it. She had no way to escape these visions. They kicked her out when they were ready. She couldn’t decide to leave them on her own.
She was in the woods again. This time, she wasn’t as scared. She’d been here twice. The bear was there again. She was certain it was Surge. She recognized him. He wasn’t growling or chasing her. The visit didn’t have the same urgency.
What she noted, though, was that he knew she was with him. He acknowledged her with a nod of his head. He was huge. Why was he in bear form? She wondered why he didn’t shift and tell her why they were here. Or even where here was.
She looked around, trying to take in her surroundings. It seemed important. Maybe she could locate this area somehow if her Daddy took her out for a run. She paid attention to the mountains in the distance and noted the size of the trees and what type they were.
The foliage on the ground was untrampled, so this wasn’t a well-traveled area.
Surge paced around slowly, looking in every direction and then back at her.
Sienna glanced down to find herself in human form and wearing a pale blue dress. She was also wearing a diaper and white sneakers. She probably should be embarrassed. What would Surge think about her being diapered?
A braid hung over one shoulder, and she reached up and touched her hair to discover two braids. It seemed like an important detail. If she could find the shoes and dress in the closet, maybe… She didn’t know what that detail would imply.
Surge froze in place, tipped his snout back, and inhaled deeply. He stared in the distance.
Sienna followed his line of sight. She couldn’t see anything unusual, and she doubted he could either. But as she looked, she realized she could also sense something was out there. Something or someone. Another shifter? Maybe the lions?
Why couldn’t either of them see anyone?
Suddenly a tremendous roar filled the air. It was so loud that she covered her ears. It seemed like the mountain shook from the force, like an earthquake. Maybe it was just the vibrations from the loud volume.
