My tough girl bit falters. “Sorry, Jase. I’m just grumpy because I don’t feel good. Hey, how was Fanny when you dropped her off last night?”

“She’s fine. She didn’t have as much to drink as you did.”

“Way to make me feel worse, big brother.”

Jason laughs. “How is Johnson working out?”

“He’s… where did you find him again?”

“Is it that bad? He came highly recommended.”

“No, it’s not that. He’s just different, I guess.”

“Different good or different bad?”

“That’s the question of the day now, isn’t it?”

Jason gives me a questioning look. “I need to get back in there. See you at home tonight?”

“Yeah, I’ll see you then.”

Walking back to my office, I’m surprised not to find Darius there when I get back. If I’m being honest, the longer he’s gone, the more pissed I become. Fifteen minutes later he walks in.

“Where the hell have you been?” He’s about to answer, but I interrupt him. “I don’t know who you worked for before, but disappearing at the beginning of the day is not the best way to start a new job and impress your employer. I’m not sure if this is going to work out. ” I sass, arching my brows and crossing my arms over my chest.

He holds up a bag of greasy takeout and walks it over to set it on my desk. Without saying a word, he goes to his desk and gets to work.

Inhaling the scent of fried food, my mouth waters, and my empty stomach rumbles. I go to my desk and open the bag he left there. Inside are a burger and french fries, my ultimate cheat meal. “You got this for me?” I ask in surprise.

Darius looks up. “That’s the best cure for a hangover.”

I’m such a bitch. “Thank you, Darius.”

“Just doing my job, ma’am.” He tells me and gets back to work.

The indifference he’s showing me is what I deserve, but it kills me all the same. “I’m sorry about what I said-” I say, trying to patch things over.

“Don’t worry about it, Stacey. You better eat that before it gets cold.” Darius says without looking up from his computer.

Sitting at my desk, I devour the greasy cheeseburger and fries, feeling like an ass for yelling at him. Like a miracle, the food works, and I feel a thousand times better by the time I’m finished, at least my body feels better. My heart, on the other hand, is conflicted.

Jesus, what the hell has come over me? The man is making me crazy. Have I mentioned how hot he looks in that fucking suit? I’m too embarrassed to talk to him.

Darius

Working side by side with her is more challenging than I thought it was going to be. It’s Friday, and I have done everything on her to-do list by nine-thirty. She is in a meeting for another hour. Still seated at my desk, I stare into space for a while, but eventually, I fall asleep with nothing to keep my mind busy. Having been in the Marines, I have the ability to sleep anytime, anywhere. I am awakened a short time later by a loud slamming, and I jerk awake.

"Oh. I'm sorry. I forgot that I was paying you to sleep," Stacey says. I swivel my chair to the side and stretch out my legs, and she moves to stand in front of me, hands on her hips.

"I've done everything you have asked of me," I drawl slowly. My eyes look her up and down. All I've thought about is her wet cunt wrapped around my cock. In fact, that’s what I was dreaming about before she so rudely interrupted.

“You did it all already?” she asks, looking at her watch. “It’s only eleven. Are you really telling me you’ve done eight hours' worth of work in a couple of hours?”

“One hour, really. The list wasn’t that hard, Stacey.”

“But my last assistant took all day just answering non-urgent emails, and she complained about that much.”

“I hate to break it to you, babe, but your last assistant sucked.”

A smile pulls at my lips. “Don’t call me babe. Not in that growly voice that I bet you use on every woman you meet.”

I stand and close the short distance to her. Pushing her long dark hair out my way, I lean in and press my lips to hers. She backs away, looking affronted, but I know her. I’ve seen the long glances she’s given me and the way her legs rub together under her desk when she thinks I’m not paying her sweet ass any attention. I grasp her by the back of the neck and pull her back in. I’m in no way done with her yet.

“Dari-” She shrieks before I cut her off with a long, soul defining kiss. Kissing her is like breathing fire. It burns straight down to my soul. I’ve never been this heated up over a woman, but other women were never the ones I would spend the rest of my life loving. Never even tried. Licking across the seam of her lips, I demand entrance. As soon as she opens, I stroke my tongue against hers, mimicking the dance we’ll do shortly. Backing Stacey up against my desk, my lips never leave hers as I lift her, so she’s sitting on the edge, and press in between her parted thighs.
