I woke up early this morning and went downstairs to put my plan into action. After making a few phone calls and sending a few texts, I found myself back upstairs. I’ve had the debate with myself on whether I should wake Alice up or not, but I’m running out of time. She needs to be up, or she’s going to be late.
My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I don’t even look at it. I turn the alarm off and take a deep breath, then knock on her door.
When she doesn’t answer, I push the door open and hear the shower going. I close the bedroom door behind me and sit down on the chair in the corner.
Being here in this room, I can’t help but think about last night. Having Alice in my arms was everything I imagined it would be. I let myself believe that this could be my life and I could have the right to hold her next to me. We could laugh together, love together, and make a future together. It’s everything I could want.
The shower shuts off, and I sit up a little taller. “Alice,” I call out. I don’t want to spook her.
She peeks out the bedroom door. “Grey… what are you doing here?”
I stand up and put my hands in the front pocket of my jeans. She has a towel wrapped around her curvy body, and without even trying, I have flashbacks from last night. I can recall every freckle, every curve, and every beautiful bare inch of skin.
She tilts her head. “Grey?”
I shake my head and bring myself to the present. I pull the gift from my pocket and hold it out to her. “Happy Birthday.”
She blinks up at me. “Thanks.” She looks down at herself and then back at me. “You can just set it down on the dresser.”
Taken aback, I pull myself together and then set the small box on the dresser and then stuff my hands back into my jeans. It’s either that or I’m going to reach for her.
“Thank you again… for saving me, I mean.”
I nod. “I will always save you.”
She holds the towel tightly around her. “Uh, is there something else?”
I nod, hating the cold shoulder she’s giving me, but I don’t blame her. I practically violated her in her sleep last night. I woke up with my cock piercing her backside and my hand cupping her breast. She didn’t deserve that. She sought me out for comfort, and instead I added to her stress.
Awkwardly, I pull my hands from my pockets and cross my arms over my chest. “I have a surprise for you.”
She’s already shaking her head. “No, I don’t need any surprises.”
I take a step toward her. “I scheduled you a day at the spa.”
She bites her lower lip and smiles. “You what?”
I nod, loving that she’s smiling at me. “Yeah, and you’re going with Emily and Lexi. They should be here any minute.”
Her face lights up, and then she frowns. “Why?”
I shake my head, not understanding. “Why what?”
She goes to her dresser and pulls out some clothes. With them in her hand, she asks, “Why did you get me a spa day?”
I cross my arms over my chest. “Because you had a shitty birthday. Because I want to make it up to you.”
She looks sad. “You don’t have to make it up to me.”
I shrug. “I want to. You are the best person I know, Alice. You deserve a good birthday.”
She tosses her clothes onto the bed and then picks up her panties, sliding them on under her towel. She grabs her bra and starts to put it on, trying to finagle it with the towel still wrapped around her, but she gets frustrated and lets the towel fall.
I can’t look away. I watch as she binds her breasts in the silky, soft material. I’m about to reach for her when the door swings open. On instinct, I go to cover her body, and it’s not until I have her pressed against my body that I realize it’s Lexi and Emily at the opened doorway.
They are staring at us, open-mouthed, and I know I’m not going to hear the end of this. “Sorry, I thought it was one of the guys.”
Alice looks at her friends. “I’ll be downstairs in a minute.”
Lexi smirks and sets a coffee cup on the dresser. “Sure thing, I got your favorite coffee. Take your time, birthday girl.”
Lexi and Emily walk out, and as soon as the door closes behind them, they both break out into giggles.
I’m still holding Alice against my chest. Her head is leaned back, and she’s staring up at me. Her breath is hitched, eyes wide, and I swear I can feel her heart pounding from where I’m standing.
I lean my head down, and our mouths are inches apart. She licks her lower lip, and I would give anything to kiss her. But right before our lips meet, she pulls away from me.
