Once she’s finished feeding them, I roll both the cribs over to her bed and put them side by side, so Brianna can watch over them. “They’re beautiful,” she says, taking them in, both fast asleep after the exhausting day they’ve had.

She pats the bed beside her, and I squish in, being careful not to bump her as her body attempts to recover from the traumatic events it’s just been through. She curls into my arms, and we spend the next twenty minutes basking in the undeniable joy of finally being a family of four, when she simply can’t resist anymore and begs me to hand them over.

“Nate or Parker?” I ask, peering down at them.

Bri looks up at me with a smile and a sparkle in her exhausted eyes. “Both,” she beams.

What my girl wants, my girl gets!

Carefully getting out of bed, I pull the babies from their cribs one by one, doing my best not to wake them in the process. I fail miserably and end up waking them both, but they’re so exhausted that Bri’s able to put them straight back to sleep like some kind of baby whisperer.

Bri looks down at the twins with such love in her eyes that I find myself wondering how I could have been so stupid to not want this. “Do you want to bring everyone in?” she asks, refusing to look up from our babies.

A proud smile rips across my face. Introducing my sons to my family is honestly the next best thing.

I’ve never been so proud as I strut out of the room to find them sitting on the ground in the hallway making complete menaces of themselves. They look up the second they see me, each one of them with wide eyes, except Sean, who looks completely miserable, this whole day bringing up all of that pain again. “Do you guys feel like meeting some babies?” I ask.

Cassie and Bobby practically fly off the floor and crash into the room, each of them fighting to get through the door first. The others follow me in, and I’m not surprised when Cassie doesn’t make it to the bed. Getting one glance at the twins in Bri’s arms, she stops in the middle of the room, drops to her knees, and starts uncontrollably sobbing on the ground, needing Jax to swoop in and save her.

“Oh my God,” Cassie sobs as she takes it all in. And hell, I can’t blame her. It truly is a beautiful sight. “Can . . . can I hold them?”

“Of course,” Brianna smiles, indicating with a nod of her head to come on over and squish in on the bed. Cass scurries across the room and scoots in beside Bri before taking Parker in her arms, and like clockwork, she begins sobbing all over again.

Bobby walks around the other side of the bed and leans down to press a kiss to Bri’s forehead as he gazes at the sweet babies. “You did good, sis,” he murmurs before stealing Nate out of Brianna’s other arm.

Bobby walks around and stands by Cassie’s side on the edge of the bed so the twins can be together, and like that, everybody comes in to say hello. Sean holds Georgie tightly and she peers down at Nate like he’s the most angelic creature she’s ever seen before, squealing when she realizes there are two of them.

Congratulations and love are thrown around the room, and I find myself basking in it, so fucking proud of what Bri and I have created, deep down knowing that we had to go through the pain to make it to where we are today.

“Looks like we’ve got the next generation of Waters NHL players right here,” Bobby says, making both Logan and Jax thoroughly agree. “They’re going to be great additions to the New York Titans,” Bobby grins.

“The fuck?” Logan grunts. “They’ll be signing with the Colorado Storm.”

On and on it goes . . .

As Bri begins to yawn, everyone starts dawdling out so she can rest, and once the room is clear, I’m finally able to climb in next to Bri and wrap her in my arms. “Bobby was right, you did good, babe,” I tell her as my eyes remain locked on our twins.

“We did good,” she corrects.

I look down at her and press my lips against hers. “I can’t wait to make an honest woman out of you,” I tell her as my fingers run through her hair, so unbelievably in love with this woman. “I love you, Brianna Lucas. I didn’t realize it was possible, but you’ve just made my world so much bigger.”

The softest smile comes over her beautiful face as she tilts her chin up to kiss me, and I give her exactly what she needs as I hold her gently. Bri pulls back with another yawn, and I run my fingers through her hair. “Why don’t you rest, babe? You’ve had a massive day.”
