Logan makes a show of saluting Carter, but he does as he’s told, making sure to put a rush on it. Once the chair is firmly planted in the grass, I take a seat and feel a pain shooting through my back. “Ugh,” I groan as the pain becomes worse. I wiggle around on the chair before reaching down and grabbing Carter’s jacket that rests in the grass beside him. I shove it behind my back like a cushion, having to position it just right, and then finally, the pain begins to ease.

Thank God. I can’t handle pain on top of everything else I’ve been feeling lately.

“How’re my babies?” Cassie asks as she gets down on her knees beside me and places both hands on my ever-growing tummy.

“Good,” I tell her with a smile as I dig through my handbag and pull out the latest ultrasound picture. “Here,” I say, handing it over. “This was last week.”

Elle peers over her shoulder as Cassie melts. “Wow, this one is sucking his thumb,” she sighs, before talking directly to my stomach. “Can you guys hurry up and break out of there? Your aunty Cassie is dying to meet you.”

I laugh as the babies react to her voice and start moving around, but it quickly becomes unbearable with how little space they have to move.

Carter picks up Georgie and gives her a tight snuggle, but she starts whining and gets thrust straight into my arms. “Hi, my sweet girl,” I coo as I attempt to make her comfortable around my tummy. The whining stops almost immediately as she glances up at me with those big blue eyes that remind me so much of her mommy. A massive grin spreads over her face, which is quickly followed by the cheekiest little giggle that melts my heart. “Oh, you are just the sweetest thing,” I tell her. “I bet you’ll be breaking hearts all over the place when you grow up.”

“Great,” Sean mutters. “Just when I thought I had enough to worry about, you had to go remind me about horny teenage boys.”

I roll my eyes, but honestly, I doubt he’ll have anything to worry about with all of her uncles around. It’s going to take one hell of a brave boy to risk stealing Georgie’s heart.

Sensing Carter’s stare, I glance up to find him watching me in awe as I cradle his niece. He gives me a knowing smile as if clearly picturing our near future, and it’s the best feeling in the world. My cheeks flush under his stare, and I have to look away, certain I’ll explode if he doesn’t kiss me soon.

Sean disappears and returns a moment later with stacks of food, and we all dig in as though we’ve never been fed in our lives. Carter sits in front of me, using my legs as a backrest as I run my fingernails through his hair, making him start to doze off like an old man needing his afternoon nap.

Georgie sits in the middle of the mat with all her aunties and uncles surrounding her, watching as Sean attempts to feed her. The baby mush is going everywhere except for her mouth, and after suffering through ten minutes of watching Sean drop mashed carrots all over Georgie’s dress, Cassie’s patience runs thin and she shoves Sean out of the way with a packet of wet wipes at the ready. After quickly cleaning her up, Cassie dives in with the spoon, proving once and for all that she really can do a better job.

Carter’s hand comes up and takes hold of my hand that sits on his shoulder. He laces our fingers together before clearing his throat, demanding everyone’s attention. “So, uhh . . . we have some news,” he says.

They all look our way with curious glances and notice our hands in each other’s grasp. “Oh, shit. You two finally worked things out,” Jax smiles, quickly beaming at Cassie with a suspicious bounce of his brows, making me wonder if he’s just won a bet.

Cass groans with disappointment. “I mean, I’m really fucking happy for you, but could you not have waited like . . . I don’t know. Three more weeks? If you had any idea what I owe my husband now . . .”

“I don’t wanna know,” Carter mutters, glancing up at me with a knowing smile before turning back to everyone else. “And yeah, we are back together, but that’s not quite the news we were wanting to share.”

I watch as each of them glance at our hands before looking back at us with stumped looks on their faces. “Then what the hell is it?” Logan asks as he pushes himself up off Elle’s lap. “Something about the babies?”

A laugh rumbles through my chest, and unable to resist another second, I hold up my left hand and turn it around so they can all see the big fucking rock that sits perfectly upon my ring finger. “We’re engaged,” I beam.
